Carolina Threnodia,

Carolina Threnodia, being a narrative of the captivity of King Charles I by Sir Thomas Herbert, Bart., who is described as an 'Eye & Ear witness' of the King's death. These reminiscences were written in 1678 and were printed, with additional original papers, under the title of Memoirs of the last two years of the reign of that unparalleled prince, of ever blessed memory. King Charles I in 1702 and 1711. and again, with further additions, in 1813. This volume probably belongs to the author's lifetime, but contains no evidence to show that it is in his autograph. Sir Thomas Herbert (1606-1682) was a descendant of Sir Richard Herbert of Colebrook, Monmouthshire, a younger brother of Sir William Herbert, Earl of Pembroke (obit 1469). Paper; 2pp., unnumbered, pp. 1-104, mutilated at the edges; 198 x 155; unbound, and paoked in brown paper.
