The sub fond comprises Lord MacDonald's personal papers including correspondence, his Christian faith, articles in the press and his memoirs.

Correspondence

The series comprises correspondence sent to Lord MacDonald with the exception of correspondence related to Newfoundland. Topics include Lord MacDonald as Controller of Fuel and Power for the north west of England and north Wales, letters of congratulation on his elevation to the peerage, local functions, get well wishes, his appointment to the Privy Council, financial and personal matters and casework. Correspondence related to Newfoundland can be found in C4.

London Missionary Society

File comprises various papers relating to the Lord MacDonald's involvement with the London Missionary Society, including correspondence relating to his appointment as a director, minutes dated 25 April and 27 June 1951 and a typescript of Lord MacDonald's address as chairman of the annual rally and valedictory service at Westminster Chapel on 9 May 1951.

File comprises documents relating to speaking and campaigning engagements for the 1950 General Election, including travel plans, names of candidates for the constituencies of Oswestry, Shrewsbury, Brierly Hill, Wolverhamption, Wrekin and Ludlow, facts about constituencies including vote shares, related correspondence including dealing with fuel rationing and a thank you letter from Jim Simmons who won Brierly Hill.

Labour Summer School in Abertillery

Documents relating to Gordon MacDonald's speech to the Labour Party Summer School in Abertillery on 17 February 1951, a speech given at a Labour Party conference in Abertillery and a Public meeting at Monmouth on 19 February 1951 along with travel arrangements. The topic of the 17 February speech was foreign affairs and the notes contain thought on Germany, the Soviet Union, the United Nations, Chinas and a printed copy of a speech given on 11 January 1951 at Chatham House by Kenneth Younger, Minister of State which is marked "Restricted". The file also includes a speech given by Gordon MacDonald at Blaina, Monmouthshire om 18 February 1951 on the United Nations and Peace. The Labour MP for Abertillery was Llywelyn Williams, MacDonald's son in law.
