Naoum Odnopozov

Letters, poetry and newspaper cuttings, 1968-1970, relating to the Soviet emigre Naoum Gourevich, alias Naoum Odnopozov, who came to know Ned Thomas in London while Thomas was editor of the Russian language periodical Англия (Angliya).
The papers comprise some eighteen letters, in English and Russian, 1968-1970, to Thomas from Odnopozov, in Paris, some containing enclosures such as items of official correspondence (ff. 2-28); copies of Russian poems by Odnopozov and others, some accompanied by English translations by Michael Edwards (a pseudonym for Thomas and Odnopozov) (ff. 29-50); and press cuttings in French and English, 1968-1969 (ff. 16-17, 51-53).

Some sixty-five letters and postcards in Spanish and French, 1985-2010, to Ned Thomas from his friend the Basque nationalist Jose-Luis Alvarez Enparantza (Txillardegi, 1929-2012) (ff. 1-109, 111-112), together with a copy of Thomas's letter to Txillardegi, 8 November 2010 (f. 110).
The letters concern political, cultural and personal matters; one letter, dated 8 December 1989, concerns the paramilitary attack on Basque politicians at the Hotel Alcalá, Madrid, on 20 November, in which he was one of the targets (f. 3).
