Llanfyllin court of record or borough sessions,
The Court of Record or Borough Sessions was held every fortnight before the bailiffs of Llanfyllin. A series of documents of considerable social and legal interest with particulars of attorneys practicing in the local court from time to time comprising of writs, bonds for appearance, declarations, pleadings and depositions mainly in pleas of debt (some referred from the Council of the Marches), with occasional slander suits. There do not appear to be any surviving proceedings of the Small court, or Baron Court, of the borough though it continued to be held after the grant of the Governing Charter. The reference MA 677 was not used.
Rents in the lordships of Halcetor, Kerry, Cedewain, Caereinion Is Coed, Caereinion Uwch Coed, Ystrad Marchell, Mechain, Mochnant, Tirymynech, Llannerch Hudol, Teirtref, Oswestry, and Radnorshire. RA1 also contains Meifod, Guilsfield, Pool, and Buttington tithes for 1745, Pool Town burgage rents due Michaelmas 1745, and one year's chief rents for Halcetor, Kerry, Cedewain, Caereinion Is Coed, Caereinion Uwch Coed, Llannerch Hudol, Teirtref, Tirymynech due 1745. The rents due Lady Day 1746 are for the lordships of Cedewain, Caereinion Is Coed, and Caereinion Uwch Coed only. RA3, 8, 13 contain chief rents for the lordships of Halcetor, Kerry, Cedewain, Caereinion Is Coed, Caereinion Uwch Coed, Ystrad Marchell, Mechain Is Coed, Mechain Uwch Coed, Mochnant, the borough of Llanfyllin, Oswestry, Trayan, and the borough of Montgomery burgage rents. In RA3 the collection for Lady Day 1746 omits Cedewain, Caereinion Is Coed, and Caereinion Uwch Coed, and that for Michaelmas 1746 omits Tirymynech, Llannerch Hudol, and Teirtref. RA5, 8, 13, 13, 16, 18 also omit Tirymynech, Llannerch Hudol, and Teirtref. RA9 contains Halcetor, Kerry, Cedewain, Caereinion Is Coed, and Caereinion Uwch Coed collections only, and RA11, 16x2 contain Tirymynech, Llannerch Hudol, and Teirtref only. Also included are the annual chief rents for these manors, and Montgomery and Kidwelly burgage rents. Chief rents are omitted in RB1, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 18, 20. Rents, 1762-1778, in the lordships of Halcetor, Kerry, Cedewain, Caereinion Is Coed, Caereinion Uwch Coed, and Llannerch Hudol which is transferred from series RD, Radnorshire rents, and Meifod, Pool, Buttington, and Guilsfield tithes. Chief rents for one year for the same lordships, and the boroughs of Montgomery, Pool, and Kidwelly burgage rents. Tithes in p. Flower, Northamptonshire, are included in RB22-39, after which they are omitted. RB24a, 34a, 36a, contain only the Earl of Powis's paternal estate in p's Llanwddyn, Pennant, Llansanffraid-ym-Mechain, Llangadfan, Llanerfyl, Llanfair Caereinion, Manafon, and Berriw, co. Mont., and Llanengan, co. Caern. This estate is also included in the series from RB43 onwards. RB31 contains rents and chief rents for Halcetor, Kerry, and Cedewain only. RB26 and 35 omit the borough of Kidwelly burgage rents; RB36 omits tithes; RB24 and 25 omit chief rents; RB27, 29, 32, 34, 37, 51 omit tithes, chief rents, and burgage rents. From RB47 onwards, Meifod, Pool, Buttington, and Guilsfield tithes are omitted. RB40, 44, 46 contain the paternal estate only. RB47 is a rental of leased lands whereas RB48 is of lands held at will. Collection (1762-1778) is half-yearly, due Lady Day unless stated otherwise.
