Transcript of Baxter's commentary on Juvenal

A transcript, 1732-1737 (ff. ii and v), by Moses Williams of William Baxter's commentary on Juvenal, taken from Baxter's manuscript (now NLW MS 23975D) and probably intended for use as printer's copy.
The transcript reproduces the text of Baxter's commentary (ff. 1-286), his life of Juvenal (ff. vi-viii) and classical quotes (f. ix) but omits the text of the Satires; the notes are identified by line number rather than Baxter's individual numbering. The text is written on rectos only, with occasional comments and corrections on versos. An engraving of Baxter pasted into the volume as a frontispiece (f. iii verso) is apparently taken from a copy of his Glossarium Antiquitatum Britannicarum (London: W. Bowyer, 1719, ESTC T40850). Part of the text is displaced, with f. 77 following on from f. 78, evidently an error on the part of Williams. The text of ff. 1-2 was published as a specimen in Williams' - Proposals for printing by subscription D. Gulielmi Baxteri quæsupersunt enarrationes & notæ in D. Junii Juvenalis satyras (London: [William] Bowyer, 1732, ESTC T135764).
