Advertisement journals and ledgers,

Advertisement Journals And Ledgers. The journals are divided into 2 sections, the first containing advertisements to be submitted in the North Wales Times. Both sections record the number of times each advertisement is to be repeated.

Baner accounts,

Baner Accounts. These three volumes give an account of the number of copies of the Baner ordered over each 3 month period during the years given below, giving their price and recording the amount due for payment.

Baner ledgers,

Baner Ledgers. Ledgers showing transactions concerning the Baner. They are of two types - transactions with traders and transactions with private persons. The former are Ledgers C3 and C4; the letter Ledgers C1, C2 and C5.

Cashbooks and daybooks,

Cashbooks. Daybooks. Daily record of various accounts settled by cash payments, with references to the Ledgers in which those accounts occur.

General Ledgers,

Ledgers, 1897-1910, showing varied transactions concerning most of the company's work.

Insurance accounts,

Insurance Accounts. Accounts recording payment of premiums to various insurance companies. The insurance covers buildings, household goods, furniture and agricultural produce. Each volume has, at the beginning, a record of each premium paid; in the middle, a summary of quarterly instalments paid each year; and, at the end, a quarterly account of all the payments to and by the company. D1 and D2 represent policies with different companies. D2-D6 from sequence.

Letters,

Letters. The letters are arranged in nine groups corresponding to the bundles in which they were received, with a few separate letters. They cover the period 1847-1927 and are mainly concerned with the books published by the company. About a quarter of the letters are in Welsh.

North Wales Times accounts,

North Wales Times Accounts. This volume is similar to those in section F. It gives an account of the number of copies of the North Wales Times ordered over each 3 month period during the years given below, giving prices and the amount due for payment.

Printing accounts,

Printing Accounts. Monthly record of printed books and papers ordered by traders and private persons, giving the numbers ordered, a ledger reference and the price of each order. E1-E3 from a series of similar accounts, as described above. E4-E7 include these accounts as well as records of Jobbing and work done for Denbighshire County Council and Education Committee.

Receipts to customers,

Receipts To Customers. An incomplete series of receipts-to-customer booklets, containing the counterfoils only. They concern 3 accounts - Baner Accounts, book accounts and advertisement accounts. But these accounts are not recorded in booklets K14-K21.

Return sheets and return book,

Return Sheets And Return Book. These sheets concern returns to the Denbigh office of amounts due to the company. Those sets of sheets from 1916-9 are accompanied by receipts from J. H. Roberts. It appears from these that J. H. Roberts travelled throughout Wales collecting money from people with outstanding accounts with the company. Each set of sheets appears to cover one or two journeys. The return book summarizes journey return sheets for a period of 15 years, covering the period of sheets N1-N8. N1-5 refer to accounts in Ledgers B (B4), C (B5), G, D and Ab [none in NLW]. N6-7 refer to accounts in Ledger B (B4), C (B5), G and D [not in NLW]. N8 refers to accounts in Ledgers B (B4), C(B5), D and Ab [not in NLW].

Statement of work,

Statement of Work. Weekly record of the amount of work done by each employee of the company. In the earlier volumes I1-I3, payment is for piecework, with each week's task set down and a record of whether the work was completed. The last two volumes, I4 and I5, record the number of hours worked and the wages due. I1-3 give a full record from 1888 (April)-1912 (Sept.).

Subscription address books,

Subscription Address Books. These contain several series of names and addresses listed in alphabetical order. They relate to private, trade and gratis subscribers. They concern subscribers to the Baner, North Wales Times, and possibly other papers. The paper associated with each list of names is rarely given.

Trade Ledgers,

Trade Ledgers. Ledgers showing various transactions with traders mainly, and also a few individuals. They concern sales of newspapers and other "goods". Ledgers B1, B2, B3 and B5 appear to form a series.
