The first of three volumes (see also NLW MSS 23702-3D) of typescript and manuscript accounts by women from Wales of their experiences in the Second World War, selections from which were published in Parachutes and Petticoats: Welsh Women Writing on the Second World War, ed. by Leigh Verrill-Rhys and Deirdre Beddoe (Dinas Powys, 1992). The material was submitted in response to an appeal in 1991 by the publishers, Honno. A copy of the complete archive has been donated to the Imperial War Museum, London.

Two autograph albums, 1918-1925, which belonged to Miss Jennie Powel Parry, the donor's aunt, from her time at Pen-y-groes County School, and later at Bangor Normal College. Included with the largest album is an unpublished poem by Sir Thomas Parry, 1921, and a letter of condolence on the death of her mother in 1961.

An anthology of Welsh verse ('cerddi', 'dyriau', 'carolau', 'cywyddau', and 'englynion') and some prose, begun by William Elias in 1752, and including several selections from the works of Owen Gruffydd of Llanystumdwy and Goronwy Owen. Other poets represented are 'Aneuryn Gwawdrydd' ('englynion y misoedd'), Dafydd ap Gwilym, 'Dic y Dawns', William Elias, Wm. Gough, Gruffudd Hiraethog, Huw Llyn, Lewis Glyn Cothi, Morgan ap Hugh Lewis, Edward Morus, Hugh Morus, Lewis Morris, Richard Parry, William Phylip, Robert Prichard o Bentraeth, Edmund Prys, Morus Roberts, Thomas Prys, Tudur Aled, Wiliam Llyn, and William Wynn. Miscellaneous items include 'Anherchion Gwyr Cybi', 'englynion brud', 'Breuddwyd Goronwy Ddu o Fon', 'Gorchestion Dafydd Nanmor', 'cywydd hanes Criccieth a suddodd Tawchfor', a valuation of land including Plas y Glyn, and recipes.

A transcript by Thomas Charles Townsend, Prestatyn, Flintshire, dated 1 August 1943, of the Order in Council of 1860 creating the ecclesiastical parish of Prestatyn (formally 'The District of Prestatyn', p. 3) from parts of the parishes of Meliden and Llanasa.
Included as part of the text are schedules describing the boundaries of the new district (pp. 6-8) and listing landowners and occupiers, with details of rent charges due, within the townships of Prestatyn and Meliden (pp. 8-11).

Notebook of Henry Harris, Ystrad Rhondda, begun in 1921, containing lists of place-names and field names in the Rhondda. Some of the names are taken from a tithe map of 1847 (ff. i, 1-51).
Also included is a typescript list of the same place-names, on loose sheets, the names numbered and in alphabetical order (ff. 52-98); typescript and manuscript notes, [?1938], on the Rhondda in the year 1737, including transcripts of Overseers of the Poor accounts (ff. 103-109); notes, 1938, relating to bird life in the Rhondda (f. 110); and three letters to Harris, October 1921-May 1928, including two from M. H. Jones, Penllwyn (ff. 99-102).

A typescript M.A. dissertation, 1957, for Liverpool University Department of Celtic by J[ohn] G[lyn] Penrhyn Jones, entitled 'A history of medicine in Wales in the eighteenth century'.
The dissertation includes chapters on social conditions in Wales, the impact of the Industrial Revolution, 'folk' medicine and herbalism, and biographies of prominent medical men. Supplementary material, including extracts from printed and manuscript sources, is to be found in the Appendices (ff. 164-329). Two tables of contents are included (f. iii, 163a).

The Sees of St. Asaph and Bangor

A copy of 'Speech of the Earl of Powis [i.e. Edward, second earl] in the House of Lords on Tuesday, May 23, 1843, on moving the second reading of a bill for preventing the union of the sees of St. Asaph and Bangor . . .' (London, 1843), with letters and printed papers relating to the threatened union of the sees, the object of which was to transfer the income of the see that would be suppressed to a see of Manchester. Among the papers are letters from the earl of Powis, George William, fourth baron Lyttelton, and Charles Scott Luxmoore, dean of St. Asaph.
