Account book, containing lists of subscriptions, balance sheets, press cuttings, and other records of the Solva 'Roads of Remembrance', 1919-56.

Fifteen holograph letters, [1830x1831]-1888, apparently brought together as a collection of autographs. They include nine in French from Eugène Sue, the novelist, to Camille Pleyel, the piano manufacturer, mostly personal correspondence, [1830x1851] (ff. 9-26), and one from Mélanie, wife of Metternich, the Austrian Chancellor, to an unnamed count, concerning her brother, 1854 (ff. 5-6).
There are also letters in English from Charles Bradlaugh, politician, to Emile Hatzfeld, music publisher, regarding political and religious matters, 1882 (ff. 1-2), Robert Browning to a Mrs Stanley, 1882 (f. 3), W. E. Gladstone to J. M. Davidson, 1888 (f. 4), the Marquess of Salisbury to Edouard Silas, composer, [c. 1860] (watermark 1858) (ff. 7-8), and Alfred Tennyson, to Silas, 1863 (ff. 27-28).

Diaries, 1855-1861, of William Tyndal Griffith, a medical student. The period includes his stay at the Bloomsbury Dispensary and the Royal London Opthalmic Hospital.

Papers, 1955, 1979-1982, of Dr Edward Lewis Ellis (1922-2008), senior lecturer in History at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, relating to his research for his biography of Dr Thomas Jones CH published as T.J. : A Life of Doctor Thomas Jones, CH (Cardiff, 1992). The correspondents include A. J. Sylvester, 1979 and Eirene White, 1978 and 1979.

Sixty-seven letters, 1912-1939, nearly all in German, mostly from Berta von Schiltberg, Munich, to the sisters Lilian and Violet Reeks at Appleton Manor, Berkshire, and Oxford, and later to Violet at Bristol and Monmouth. Schiltberg ran a pension (boarding house) for young ladies in Munich and the correspondence follows the two girls' stay with her.
The letters reflect Schiltberg's active and happy life before 1914 with many references to Munich high society and the music scene. There are numerous references to acquaintances such as the pianist Anna Hirzel-Langenhan (items 3-66 passim) and the composer and conductor Ludwig Berberich (items 8, 38, 43, 45-66 passim). Schiltberg writes on the social and economic misery in Germany during the First World War, the financial crisis of the 1920s and 1930s and her own increasing poverty. The post-war political upheavals and the disappointments and confusion of the time are also described (item 53). A frequent social guest at this time was a Herr Drexler (items 43-53 passim), possibly to be identified as Anton Drexler, founder of the German Workers' Party (DAP). Among Schiltberg's tenants from 1918 to 1923 was Leutnant Rudolf Hess, the future Nazi Party deputy leader, who is mentioned in two letters, dated 16 May 1919 (item 54) and 29 December 1935 (item 63); his future wife also lived at the pension. Six group and individual photographs, 1915-1919, mostly identifiable, are also included (items 38, 41, 44, 54).

An album presented by the master and pupils of Gwynfryn School to Watkin Hezekiah Williams ('Watcyn Wyn') on his fiftieth birthday, 7 March 1894, with signatures of the subscribers and later autographs, an address presented at the school reunion, 2 April 1901, and press cuttings of biographical matter and obituary notices of 'Watcyn Wyn', 1905.

Letters and papers of George Stephens, goaler and governor of the House of Correction of the county of Carmarthen. They include a notice of promotion to be one of the Inspectors of the Metropolitan Police Force, 29 April, 1844; an invitation, 14 August, 1847, under the signatures of magistrates of the county of Carmarthen, to discharge the duty of goaler till the Quarter Sessions; a certificate of good conduct in the Metropolitan Police Force, 1 September, 1847; a holograph letter, 4 November, 1847, from Charles Bishop, Llandovery, enclosing a copy of the order for the recipient's appointment as county gaoler and governor; eighteen holograph letters, 4-17 November, 1854, from visiting magistrates of Carmarthenshire and others, supporting his application for a similar post in the county of Middlesex; a printed statement of accounts, 21 January, 1870, between George Stephens, late treasurer, and the members and congregation of Zion Calvinistic Church, Carmarthen; a printed 'in memoriam' card of David Price Davies of Pumpsaint, 1874; and a holograph letter, 17 November [1876] from C. H. Spurgeon, Clapham.

A composite volume containing John O'Donovan: A Grammar of the Irish Language (Dublin, 1845), and Ernst Windisch: Durzgefasste Irische Grammatik mit Lesestücken (Leipzig, 1879), together with copious interleaved and marginal manuscript additions.

A notebook containing 'Family and Personal Miscellanea' in the hand of Charles Bowen (1809-82), rector of St. Mary-on-the-Hill with Upton, Cheshire. It was begun in 1838 and contains pedigrees showing the descent of Charles Bowen from the family of Bowen of Gurrey, Carmarthenshire, and a few personal press-cuttings, 1821-[44] (e.g. a report of a sermon preached by him at the opening of the new church of Llanvihangel-Rhydithon, Radnorshire, 1838).

Material relating to the introduction of school broadcasts in Wales, and in particular to the case for establishing a Welsh Sub-Committee of the Central Council for School Broadcasting. The papers include autograph letters, 1931-3, to W. Lloyd Pierce, Llanfair Caereinion (for the National Union of Teachers), from the British Broadcasting Corporation, the Central Council for School Broadcasting, and Wm. George, Criccieth; undated memoranda by W. Lloyd Pierce and Sir Percy Watkins; minutes of the Central Council for School Broadcasting and of the Welsh Sub-Committee, 1932-3; etc.

A miscellany written during the period 1762-5 by Rowland Jones, Pandy [Llanuwchllyn]. It contains poetry in free metres and some 'englynion', prognostications of Erra Pater based on the incidence of New Year's Day, and particulars of the phases of the moon in the year 1765. The poets mentioned by name include Cadwaladr Dafydd, Morgan Thomas 'o Gynllwyd', Robert Thomas, and Rowland Jones, but most of the poems are either unsigned or incomplete as a result of mutilation of folios. Memoranda in a later hand, probably by one Rees Jones, refer to spare and wanting copies of Y Dysgedydd and Seren [Gomer] for 1820-4, and other later entries associate the volume with the Llangadfan and Llanerfyl districts.

Manuscript volumes once in the possession of Richard Hall Williams, including a book of hymns in Welsh with the autograph of a Richard Williams and William Williams; a volume containing newspapers cuttings ('Byegones') from the Oswestry Advertizer, 1871-1873, and a ledger, [1869]-[1892], relating to businesses in the Newtown area.

A group of household vouchers (food, clothing, etc.) of William Yearsley Clarke, maltster, of Hight Street, Welshpool (with one voucher of Thomas Clarke, solicitor, Welshpool), 1841-70, and invoices of shipments of porter for W. Y. Clarke from Dublin to Chester, 1845.

A poem (202 lines), with annotations, entitled 'The Celtae'; and a list of contents of, and some transcripts from, a manuscript in the library of Chetham College, Manchester, entitled 'Short pedigree [sic] of Divers Noblemen, Knights, Esquires, Gentlemen & Gentlewomen of Pembrokeshire, containing all or most of the Eight Ancestors from whom they are Descended together with the arms of most of them - London - Printed by John Winter for the author, a.d. 1671'.

An account book of Tŷ Mawr Calvinistic Methodist Church, near Llannerch-y-medd, Anglesey, 1846-8, containing audited particulars of monthly and other collections and of payments to preachers and other disbursements. At the end are notes of a sermon preached at Tŷ Mawr, etc.

A volume of extracts, 1757-1847, from the minute books of the Anglesey Hunt. At the end of the volume is a list of the names of the comptrollers and the lady patronesses, and in most instances particulars of expenses, for each year from 1798 to 1829.

Two volumes of notes on 'Ecclesiastical History' by, and in the hand of, the Reverend Professor John Evans (1858-1963), Memorial College, Brecon.

Holograph and/or typescript copies of addresses by George Arbour Stephens, M.D., Swansea, including 'Was Dozmare Pool a Celtic lake of the Underworld?', published in Folk Lore, March, 1935, 'A Green Cross Service for the Celtic Fringe', delivered at the Celtic Congress, Isle of Man, 4 July, 1935, 'The Topographical Importance of Kidwelly and the Burry Estuary in connection with the Arthurian Romances. Caerwen as the old name for Kidwelly', published in The Carmarthen Journal, 25 November, 1938, and 'Radnorshire as a Centre of Celtic Mythology', delivered to the Radnorshire Antiquarian Society at Llandrindod, 2 December, 1938; together with some miscellaneous papers of G. Arbour Stephens, including army certificates, 1897-1918, notices of the leet court with view of frank-pledge of the borough and manor of Swansea, 1919-31, etc.

A pocket book of Robert Daniel of Llandderfel, father of D. R. Daniel, containing farming accounts, 1844-5, largely connected with the purchase and sale of stock and the sale of wool.
