Llyfr torion,

A volume of miscellaneous press cuttings from Welsh and Welsh-American newspapers and periodical publications compiled, with some holograph annotations, by John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'). The titles include 'Gorsedd y Beirdd', 'Yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol' (Cardiff, 1883), 'Diwygiad yr Eisteddfod', 'Yr Eisteddfod a'i Hanes' (Rhyl, 1892), 'Llith Aneurin Fardd', 'Eisteddfod Genhedlaethol Aberdar, 1861 - "Hanes Llenyddol Cymru". Beirniadaeth' (by T. Stephens, Merthyr Tydfil), 'Sion Philip, Mochras', 'The British Kymry .... By the Rev. R. W. Morgan, Pc, Tregynon' (review), 'Yn y Bala', 'Review Flynyddol Gwirfoddolwyr Morgannwg ar Gomin Hirwain', 'Taith tua Chaerlleon-ar-Wysg', 'Y Gohebydd Gwibiol' (notes on the history and antiquities of Llandybie, Bettws, Llanarthney, Gelli Aur, Llanfihangel Aberbythych, Llangathen, Abergwili and Carmarthen), 'Hen Arferion Crefyddol y Cymry', 'Brawddegau y Werin' (a list of Welsh dialect expressions), etc. Also mounted in the volume is a printed prospectus of Robert Griffith (Manchester), Telyn a Cherdd Dannau y Cymry [?1913]. There are two labels laid on the outer upper cover, the one numbered '10' and the other in the hand of 'Myrddin Fardd' inscribed 'Chwidredd J. Morris Jones, Llythyrau Aneurin Fardd, Beirniadaeth T. Stephens, The British Kymry, etc. etc.'.

The file contains the text of Lady White's speech at the Flint National Eisteddfod, 3 August 1969, together with photocopies of related correspondence and press cuttings.

Folk songs

Scripts of broadcasts, 1941, by J. Lloyd Williams on musical topics, some including related contracts and correspondence. The titles include 'Caneuon Gwerin: Cyngerdd'; a series entitled 'Music of Britain: Wales', including 'The Origin of the Welsh Folk Song Movement'; 'Welsh Chords' (contract only); 'Canu'r Eisteddfod' (contract only); 'The Music of the National Eisteddfod during the last 40 years' / 'Cerddoriaeth yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol yn ystod y Deugain Mlynedd Diwethaf'; 'Hela Alawon' and 'Hela Hen Ganeuon'. A radio script, dated 11 March 1938, of a discussion between E. Morgan Humphreys and J. Lloyd Williams on Welsh folk songs is also included, together with a typescript copy of a list of suggestions for broadcasts.

Letters to Revd Gwilym Davies,

Most of the letters date from the 1930's. Among the correspondents are Alun Oldfield Davies, 1938, George Maitland Lloyd Davies, 1934, Mike Davies, undated, Ifan ab Owen Edwards, 1936-38 (2 letters), Major Edgar Jones, Barry, 1934-37 (3 letters), Thomas Artemus Jones, 1934, Revd. H. Elvet Lewis ('Elved'), 1938, E. Prosser Rhys, undated, Revd. D. Francis Roberts, 1936 (2 letters), Ben Bowen Thomas, 1934-38 (2 letters), Wynn P. Wheldon, 1938, and Sir Alfred Zimmern, 1936. Many of the letters concern public life in Wales and ecclesiastical and church matters, including the recipient's engagements and commitments. The file also contains notes and draft writings by Revd. Gwilym Davies, including the draft of an article by him entitled, 'The National Eisteddfod from within'.

Letters to Eirene White

The file contains a characteristic mingling of personal and professional letters, many relating to political events and the proceedings of the House of Lords. Some letters refer to a ceremony at Rhymney during April 1990 to unveil a plaque to commemorate Thomas Jones's name, and others to the re-publication of his Rhymney Memories. A few concern preparations for the 1992 National Eisteddfod at Aberystwyth. Miscellaneous cards and tickets, 1889-1924 and undated, collected by J. H. Davies. They include calling cards, readers' tickets, invitations and admission cards, menus and toasts, and annual membership cards. They relate to events at, among other institutions, the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, the University of Wales, the Guild of Graduates of the University of Wales, the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion, the National Library of Wales, the National Eisteddfod and the Welsh Bibliographical Society.
