Francis Llewellyn Powys papers

Papers once in the possession of Francis Llewellyn Powys, nephew of John Cowper Powys, relating to the wills of John Cowper Powys and Phyllis Playter and to the literary executorship, copyright, translation rights and royalies, etc. of John Cowper Powys's estate. The material includes contracts, correspondence, and notes and accounts concerning proposed publication and translation of, and performance rights, copyright and royalties relating to, the works of John Cowper Powys, Theodore Francis Powys and Philippa (Katie) Powys. The literary executorship of both John Cowper Powys and Theodore Francis Powys was in the hands of Phyllis Player until she transferred it to John Cowper Powys's nephew (and Theodore's son) Francis Llewellyn Powys by deed of gift in 1972; Francis, in turn, transferred it by deed of gift to his son John Francis Cowper Powys in 1994.

Coleg Harlech,

Correspondence, papers and memoranda relating to Coleg Harlech, providing a massive and detailed record of the establishment of the college and its functioning to the Second World War. Thereafter, the record becomes fragmentary. Separate files on appointments and on the library have been treated as distinct units and undated documents have been retained in their file position. While it centres on adult education, the collection covers a wide range of subjects of a social character. Violet Markham collection,

Correspondence between Violet Markham (Mrs J. Carruthers) and Thomas Jones, with subsidiary papers. Covering a variety of subjects, personal, social and political, national and international. In 1963, the executors of Miss Violet Markham made available such letters of Thomas Jones as Miss Markham had preserved. The Markham collection had already been bound as volumes T 1-6, and these additional letters are included in three supplementary volumes, T 7-9. With a few listed exceptions, the letters in T 7-9 are all from Thomas Jones. Also included is a little material relating to the Thomas Jones Memorial Fund established after Thomas Jones's death. Welsh Executive Committee

The group contains Communist Party of Great Britain Welsh Executive Committee agendas, minutes, and related papers [1958]-1991; with papers relating to the Welsh Committee, to branches in South Wales, to the Wales District and to the Wales Secretariat. Some files include correspondence, press releases, leaflets, material relating to elections, and party education; and occasionally material relating to membership, officers and finance.

Printed material

The group consists of newspaper cuttings, 1921-1998, copies of 'Party News' and other newsletters, 1943-1987, papers relating to the South Wales Bookshop, 1884-1991, and drafts and copies of Cyffro and Moving Left in Wales, 1964-1983.

Subject files

The group includes files of miscellaneous accumulated material relating to the Communist Party, Welsh affairs, devolution, the labour movement, social issues and miscellaneous subjects. They include material produced by the Communist Party Great Britain or Communist Party Wales District, and also documents relating to particular subjects of interest. Some may be research files created by Bert Pearce while preparing an article or leaflet. Most of the files contain information relating to a variety of subjects and only the most significant subjects are noted in the description. They may also occasionally contain minutes of committee meetings, election leaflets, information leaflets, publications, magazines, reports, correspondence, or notes. The dates are often wide ranging since they contain accumulated documents and publications relating to a subject.

Estate management records,

The group contains records and correspondence relating to the management of the Trust's estates, 1913-1976, including some papers concerning the Great Western estates, 1923-1972, together with associated agreements pre-dating the foundation of the Trust, 1897-1913.

Papers concerning life and education

The section comprises secondary school reports, 1929-1936, a university certificate and related letters, 1979-1981, newspaper and magazine articles written about Condry during his lifetime, 1973-1992, obituaries, letters of condolence to his widow, other memorials and tributes, 1998-2020.
