Strike of 1898,

Press cuttings related to the Strike of 1898, encompassing the history of the dispute, the serving of termination notices, and the signing of the revised Agreement. Some correspondence, letters and telegrams related to the strike are also included.

Correspondence with the Mining Association of Great Britain relating to the coal mining industry in general, and also relating to specific topics such as pitwood, unemployment insurance, holiday clubs, workmen's compensation, Coal Utilisation Council research, the Welfare Fund Bill, pit ponies, miners' nystagmus, trade union membership, the provision of men and labour during war time, and post-war celebrations. General correspondence files may include not only letters but also memoranda, notes for deputations, and meeting notices, agenda and papers for meetings of the Central, Transport, Joint Standing Consultative, Propaganda, Timber, Wagon, Joint National Negotiating, and Post-War Research Committees.

South Wales Coal Shipment Advisory Committee,

Material relating to the South Wales Coal Shipment Advisory Committee, which represented the Monmouthshire and South Wales Coal Owners Association, Cardiff and Bristol Channel Incorporated Shipowners Association, the South Wales Coal Exporters Association, the Bristol Channel District Association of Chartered Shipbrokers, and the Great Western Railway. The committee dealt with such matters as the marketing of coal, effects of railway rates on the shipment of coal, and matters concerning the import or export of coal in general. Material comprises reports, meeting minutes and agendas, and notices calling meetings.
