Forty-one holograph letters (together with the opinion of W. Phillipps, Haverfordwest, and a statement of disbursements), 1665-1676, written by Geo[rge] Powell from Pembroke, etc., to John Morris in Corne hill and Augustine fryers, to Robert Clayton in Augustine fryers, and to Thomas Lemon, cashier to John Morris and Robert Clayton. The letters relate to the payment of bills of exchange and other business matters, and refer to 'your Concerne in my trust', accounts for 'your iron', and in particular to an action against John Chapland for the recovery of iron from Wexford seized at Pembroke. Also included are three holograph letters, 1674, from John Powell, Pembroke, nephew of George Powell, to Thomas Lemon, requesting support in procuring an assurance of George Powell's office of controller of customs in the port of Milford, and a receipt, [16]80, from John Powell, apothecary, to the Right Hon. Sir George Jeoffreys [1st baron Jeffreys of Wem, Lord Chancellor of England], by the hand of Hugh Matthews, for a debt of £5 due from Sir John Jones [of Fonmon Castle], late deceased.

Miscellaneous holograph letters and documents which include five letters, 1671/2-1672/3, from G[eorge] Scudamore, Monmouth Forge, to Sir Robert Clayton and to John Morris at Augustine Friers, etc. (relating to the Rotherwas estate, collection of rents in the lordships of Dinder and Much Dewchurch, etc.); eleven letters, 1673-1673/4, from Abr[aham] Seward, Hereford, to John Morris and to William Belke at Sir Robert Clayton's house in London (repairs to the fulling mills and its effect on the cloth trade in Hereford, the leasing of Rotherwas estate, etc.); one letter, 26 January, 1678/9, to Lady [Ann] Jones [of Fonmon Castle]; two letters, 18 October, [16]88, to [George Jeffreys, 1st baron Jeffreys of Wem]; two dockets, November, 1688, of grants to Richard Bulkeley, 3rd viscount Bulkeley, of the offices of chancellor and chamberlain of the counties of Anglesey, Caernarvon, and Merioneth, and of constable of the castle of Beaumaris and captain of Beaumaris; a covenant, 1 September, 1691, in respect of the tithes of Yestradvellty and hamlet of Glyntawy; etc.

Jones, Brecon, to Sir George Jeffreys, Recorder of London, and Jeffrey Jeffreys, Inner Temple (the yearly value of the estate of Sir John Jones in Wringstone, Wenvoe, and Michaellston le Pit, etc.), with a breviate of debts incurred upon the Fonmon estate; and a group of thirty-seven documents, 1656-1684 and undated, relating to encumbrances affecting the estate of Sir Robert Thomas of Llanvihangell, Glamorgan, including holograph letters from Sir Robert Thomas to Sir Robert Clayton and John Morrice, accounts, receipts, legal papers, etc.

They include acquittances and releases, 1667/8-77, for the payment of money, partly by the hand, or for the use, of Sir Robert Clayton and Mr. [John] Morris; dockets, 16886-8, from the Treasury Chambers, of the creations of titles (e.g. marquis of Powis, 1686/7), grants of offices and licences, and leases of fines in the Court of King's Bench and of the profits of the Alienation Office, with the counter-signatures of John Belasyse, baron Belasyse, Sidney Godolphin, 1st earl of Godolphin, [Sir] John Ernle, Henry Jermyn, 1st baron Dover, and [Sir] Stephen Fox; an undated petition by Leonard Bryar, gent., to Lord Jeffreys to be one of the Masters Extraordinary for taking affidavits in Chancery, together with a recommendation by Rich[ard] Allibon; recommendations [1688] by Rich.
