Two notebooks containing transcripts of titles of Welsh ballads ('Hen Faledau Cymraeg') contained in Books I - IV of 'Llyfrau Cerddi' in the collection of W. J. Roberts ('Gwilym Cowlyd'), 1896. There are some annotations, partly in the hand of J. H. Davies, and in the majority of cases the corresponding numbers in J. H. Davies: A Bibliography of Welsh Ballads ... (London, 1911) have been inserted.

A transcript, in two hands, of Cwrtmawr MS 120. The interlude is said on the dorse of the title-page to have been 'Copied from an old MS by John Owen Thomas (Ioan Tachwedd) Llanrwst for 4/- October 1885 for Gwilym Cowlyd'.

A manuscript in the hand of William John Roberts ('Gwilym Cowlyd') containing two 'awdlau' on 'Pwlpud Cymru' by 'Gweledydd' and 'Hefin ab Gwyndaf' respectively, which were submitted for competition at Pontypridd National Eisteddfod, 1893, and an ?'incomplete adjudication on the 'hir a thoddeidiau' on 'Toriad y Dydd' at the same eisteddfod. 'Gwilym Cowlyd' was one of the adjudicators in both competitions. The prize for the 'awdl' was awarded to 'Obed-Edom (the Reverend J. Ceulanydd Williams, Maesteg) and for the 'hir a thoddaid' to 'Glan Gweryddon' (William Roberts, 'Gwilym Eryri').

Miscellaneous poetry in strict and free metres by Jonathan Hughes (Dolwen, near Llanrwst), Owen Jones (Dolwen), [W. J. Roberts] 'G[wilym]' Cowlyd', 'Owain Fardd' (1891) and E. Williams, and scraps of anonymous and incomplete poems; a holograph letter from [John Williams, Llangernyw] 'Llenor o'r Llwyni', to 'G[wilym] Cowlyd', undated (the addressee's last letter to the writer)'; and a medical recipe.

A volume containing holograph poetry by Evan Evans ('Ieuan Glan Geirionydd') written about 1820 and sent for correction to a mentor bearing the initials 'G. W.' [Griffith Williams ('Gutyn Peris')], who has made his amendments and critical remarks in pencil. The titles are 'Awdl ... er Coffadwriaeth am y Diweddar ... Charlotte Augusta, Merch Tywysog Cymru ... ', 'Awdl ... yn goffadwriaeth am Y Parchedig Thomas Charles B.A. o'r Bala ... ', and '[Cywydd] y Bedd'. W. J. Roberts ('G[wilym] Cowlyd') has testified (p. 46) that the contents are in the 'undoubted handwriting of 'Ieuan Glan Geirionydd''.

A commonplace book of W. J. Roberts ('Gwilym Cowlyd'). The volume belongs to the period 1902-04 and consists largely of copies of letters and some press cuttings relating to the constitution and activities of the Institutional Order of Bards of Gair Ionydd (of which 'Gwilym Cowlyd' was Chief Bard Positive), with special emphasis on the election of Primary Elders, to the request for representation at the coronation of King Edward VIII, and to the election of English bards to membership of the Order. There is also correspondence relating to bardic awards made to [Rowland Williams] 'Hwfa Môn', to protests made by 'Gwilym Cowlyd' against the holding of an organ recital at St Grwst's Church, Llanrwst, and against the renovation of the altar, to a proposed singing festival ('Cymanfa Goffadwriaethol') organised by Llangollen Literary Society in memory of [Evan Evans] 'Ieuan Glan Geirionydd', to the acceptance by Llanrwst Urban District Council, as a nucleus of a free library, of the books stored by 'Gwilym Cowlyd' in a separated portion of the cellar at Llanrwst Town Hall, etc. The correspondents include [Rabbi J. Mystic Babylon the Great, The Mother of Harlots and Abominations of the Earth', enclosed in a letter to Joseph Chamberlain, 1903; a list of books and manuscripts of Dd. A volume containing a dictionary of rhymes (i.e. lists of Welsh words arranged according to word endings e.g. adafaela, adara, ... ysgwyddwisg, yswythbysg) in the hand of Evan Evan ('Ieuan Glan Geirionydd'). Beginning at the end of the volume are a list, in the same hand, of selections from the New Testament appropriate for reading on specified Sundays, and a draft of a 'pryddest', 1 December 1885, on 'Dyffryn Conwy' by 'Hanesydd' i.e. William John Roberts ('Gwilym Cowlyd') composed for an eisteddfod at Llanrwst. Watermark: 1834.

A commonplace book of Evan Evan ('Ieuan Glan Geirionydd'), with additions by William John Roberts ('Gwilym Cowlyd'). The volume contains extracts on the constitutional conflict between King Charles I and Parliament; a list of ratepayers of the parish of Christleton, Cheshire, 1835-6; lists of ecclesiastical impropriations in the dioceses of St Asaph and Bangor; rules of music ('Things prohibited', etc.); orders of the Trustees of Jno. Seller's Charity in Christleton, 1787; poetry by 'Ieuan Glan Geirionydd' ('A mi un diwrnod teg o Vai...') (dated 'Glan Llyn Geirionydd Mai 1853'); lists of benefices in the dioceses of St Asaph and Bangor arranged according to valuation (under £100, above £100 and under £200, etc.); lists of incumbents and 1st and 2nd wardens [of the parish of Ince, Cheshire], 1773-1846 (with gaps); a transcript of a bill of sale, by way of mortgage, of a saddler's stock-in-trade, book debts, household furniture, etc. in Llanrwst, 1871, together with a notice thereof to the bailiff of the county court of Denbighshire held at Llanrwst; gardening and orchard accounts and memoranda and plans of planting, 1843-7 and undated; an undated list of books sent to be rebound and repaired; a mortgage to the Blaenau Festiniog New Benefit Building Society of leasehold property along the road from Festiniog to Rhiwbryfdir, 1861; etc. The insets include an adjudication on 'englynion' by 'Gwilym Cowlyd'; and a transcript of a mortgage of lands in the parish of Gwytherin, Denbighshire, 1873. On the inside upper cover is written in pencil a hymn entitled 'Codiad y Wawr' ('Cydunwn yn awr...'). Watermark: 1826.

A notebook in the hand of J. H. Davies containing a chronological list of printed books in Welsh and of Welsh interest, 1599-1886 and undated, being the first lot purchased by him from William John Roberts ('Gwilym Cowlyd') 'a day or two' before the latter's sale [in April 1897]. At the end of the volume, partly in the hand of J. H. Davies, are particulars of gaps in files of newspapers, periodicals, etc. (Y Goleuad, Trysorfa y Plant, Welsh Gazette, and Welsh Piety) in the Cwrtmawr library.
