Radio plays by Tony Curtis

Material relating to radio plays by Tony Curtis, comprising:

Typescript scripts of a radio play by Tony Curtis titled The Award. It appears that the script was initially proposed as a television play.

Typescript scripts of a radio play by Tony Curtis titled Occupied Territory, a major component of which is a focus on the criminal activity of medical doctor and serial killer Marcel Petiot. The play was also performed as a rehearsed reading by Made in Wales theatre company at the Sherman Theatre, Cardiff.

Occupied Territory

Early draft scripts of Tony Curtis's play Occupied Territory, which was performed at the Sherman Theatre, Cardiff in the 1980s, together with information photocopied from printed sources relating to events portrayed in the play and rough manuscript notes in Curtis's hand. Also included are a significant amount of online printouts of a much later provenance, which may relate to Tony Curtis's novel Darkness in the City of Light (Seren Books, 2021), whose theme is practically identical to that of Occupied Territory (see June 2021 papers under heading Darkness in the City of Light (Seren Books, 2021)).
Drafts of play include amendments in Tony Curtis's hand.

Readers are cautioned that the play and accompanying background information relate to events which took place in World War II occupied France, chiefly the crimes and subsequent trial and execution of mass murderer Dr Marcel Petiot.

Darkness in the City of Light (Seren Books, 2021)

Material relating to the compilation and publication of Tony Curtis's novel Darkness in the City of Light (working title Occupied Territory), published by Seren Books in 2021, including: rough manuscript notes in Tony Curtis's hand; pre-publication reviews of the work; email correspondence between Tony Curtis and Mick Felton, Publisher at Seren Books; photocopied background information sources relating to the novel's main character, physician and serial killer Dr Marcel Petiot, to other leading figures in the narrative and to the occupation of France during the Second World War, including photocopies of official documents; excerpts from the novel; and poetry by Tony Curtis.
Written on a brown paper bag in Tony Curtis's hand (in reference to the material): 'Darkness in the City of Light novel Tony Curtis 1980s - 2021', the '1980s' date presumably referring to the writing of Curtis's play 'Occupied Territory' (see under heading Plays by Tony Curtis and Radio broadcasts of literary works by Tony Curtis).
Including annotations/amendments in Tony Curtis's and his wife Margaret Curtis's hands.
