A volume entitled 'Cerddi Cyf. I' containing transcripts partly by J. H. Davies and some press cuttings of printed and manuscript ballads ('caneuon') and a few 'englynion' mainly of the first half of the nineteenth century. A composite volume lettered on the spine 'Church-Rates' and bearing the name of 'Wm Thomas, Bwlchnewydd 1860' [i.e. the Reverend William Thomas (1823-99), Congregational minister first at Capel Isaac then at Bwlchnewydd and Elim, Carmarthenshire, afterwards living at Parc-glas near Carmarthen]. It contains a number of printed items, viz. four tracts of the British Anti-state-church Association, New Series, Nos. 1, 5, 4 and 6 (1850-51); three publications of the Society for the Liberation of Religion from State-Patronage and Control (The New Burial Acts, as they affect Dissenters ..., fourth edition, enlarged [1857], Practical Directions to the Opponents of Church-Rates, Part I, third edition [?1857], and Illegal Church-Rates: being practical directions to the opponents of church rates, Part II [1856]); 'Y Dreth Eglwys yn mhlwyf Cynwyl Gaio' by 'Ap Gryphydh', i.e. W[illia]m Thomas, Bwlchnewydd, reprinted from Y Diwygiwr, 1857, pp. 377-80, with some marginal notes by William Thomas; Y Bugail; neu flaidd yn rhith dafad ... gan awdwr y "Whigs a'r Tories", &c. Y trydydd argraffiad (Caernarfon, Josiah Thomas Jones, 1835); Y Parchedig Gecryn Penchwiban; neu ddrych y bugail drwg ...gan awdwr y 'Whigs a'r Tories', y 'Bugail', &c. Davies, PhD, Froodvale, the original manuscript of each being in the possession of William Thomas. At the beginning of the volume, in manuscript, are a note of 'The position of the Church Rate Question in the H. Cns. from 1853 to 1861 inclusive' and 'A List of the Pamphlets the volume contains ...', and at the end of the volume, also in manuscript, by William Thomas, are 'Extracts & Notes. Braintree Church Rate Case' and 'Notes & correspondence on the Church Rate in the Parish of Cayo'. Loose in the volume is an incomplete copy of Y Parchedig Gecryn Penchwiban.

(I). Verses entitled 'Coffadwriaeth Y Parch. Archddiacon [Thomas] Beynon' by 'Galaethfardd Gwawdrydd', ie Thomas Lloyd Jones ('Gwenffrwd'), Mobile, Alabama, USA, late of Holywell, Flintshire, and 'Verses' by the Reverend Daniel Evans ('Daniel Ddu o Geredigion'), Fellow of Jesus College, Oxford, composed after having read the poem by 'Galaethfardd Gwawdrydd'. The volume is in the hand of Dd Morgan, Penrhyn Deudraeth and is said to have been transcribed on 16 March 1871, and recopied on 5 December 1879, from Awenyddion Gwent a Dyfed: sef y Cyfansoddiadau Barddoniaidd a ennillasant Dlysau, a Gwobrau eraill yn Eisteddfod Caerdydd ... ar yr 20fed, 21ain, a'r 22ain o Awst 1834. A commonplace book of Evan Evan ('Ieuan Glan Geirionydd'), with additions by William John Roberts ('Gwilym Cowlyd'). The volume contains extracts on the constitutional conflict between King Charles I and Parliament; a list of ratepayers of the parish of Christleton, Cheshire, 1835-6; lists of ecclesiastical impropriations in the dioceses of St Asaph and Bangor; rules of music ('Things prohibited', etc.); orders of the Trustees of Jno. Seller's Charity in Christleton, 1787; poetry by 'Ieuan Glan Geirionydd' ('A mi un diwrnod teg o Vai...') (dated 'Glan Llyn Geirionydd Mai 1853'); lists of benefices in the dioceses of St Asaph and Bangor arranged according to valuation (under £100, above £100 and under £200, etc.); lists of incumbents and 1st and 2nd wardens [of the parish of Ince, Cheshire], 1773-1846 (with gaps); a transcript of a bill of sale, by way of mortgage, of a saddler's stock-in-trade, book debts, household furniture, etc. in Llanrwst, 1871, together with a notice thereof to the bailiff of the county court of Denbighshire held at Llanrwst; gardening and orchard accounts and memoranda and plans of planting, 1843-7 and undated; an undated list of books sent to be rebound and repaired; a mortgage to the Blaenau Festiniog New Benefit Building Society of leasehold property along the road from Festiniog to Rhiwbryfdir, 1861; etc. The insets include an adjudication on 'englynion' by 'Gwilym Cowlyd'; and a transcript of a mortgage of lands in the parish of Gwytherin, Denbighshire, 1873. On the inside upper cover is written in pencil a hymn entitled 'Codiad y Wawr' ('Cydunwn yn awr...'). Watermark: 1826.

Two notebooks (pasted together) of the Reverend John Lloyd Richards (1790-1854), vicar of Llanwddyn containing 'Subjects for [weekly] themes given by Mr Ainger for 1821', '...[L]ines ... set up in a neat frame in the room at the Pavilion by the falls of the Clyde in Scotland', 1817; verses by R. Davies entitled 'I Bedwar Rhan y Flwyddyn'; prose texts entitled 'The Number Seven', 'English Language' and 'Esau and Jacob'; verses entitled 'Happiness' by the present Bp. of Calcutta. Dr. Heber'; personal accounts, 1821-31 (expenses at St Bees College and at Nun Monkton, payments to hired servants, receipts of rent etc.); etc. The scribe's sister, Mary Richards, during the period 1870-3 has used blank spaces to record copious memoranda, anecdotes and transcripts of verse and family letters.

A volume issued, 1828, to the antiqury Angharad Llwyd, Tyn-y-rhyl, Flintshire, for the collection of subscriptions towards St David's Welsh Church, Liverpool, but utilised by her as a commonplace and autograph book. Verse and prose entries, 1830-1853, mostly of a religious nature, include autograph poetry by John Jones (Tegid), Thomas Price (Carnhuanawc), and Bryan Waller Procter (Barry Cornwall), and entries by Sir John Bernard Bosanquet, Lady Charlotte Guest, Augusta Hall, Lady Llanover, Henry Hart Milman, David Pennant, William Owen[-Pughe], Thomas Raffles, Henry Raikes, John Bird Sumner, and Frances Wrangham. Also included is a letter of address, 1828, to Angharad Llwyd from the Rev. Robert Davies, perpetual curate of St David's Church (f. iii).

Two composite commonplace books of Edward Jones, Cyrchynan-uchaf, Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog, 1824-1831, containing lists of preachers' texts, farming accounts and memoranda, overseers' accounts, sheep ear-marks, a ' carol plygain' (1830) by R. Williams and other verses in free metres, equivalent Welsh and English words and expressions, etc.

Letters addressed to [Sir] Owen M. Edwards by L. Emlyn Evans, 1913-1916, relating to the publication of Gwaith Mynyddog in 'Cyfres y Fil'; estimates and accounts relating to 'Cyfres y Fil', 1913-1916; a copy of a poem written by 'Mynyddog's mother ('O na chawn i weld Mynyddog'); and letters and postcards, 1892-1919, by R. Written on the inside lower cover is a long note by O[wen] Williams, Fronheulog, Waunfawr, 1857, of which the following is an extract, - 'Myfi a gesglais gynhwysedd y llyfr hwn o'r hen ysgrifiau a ddaeth i'm dwylaw oeddynt eiddo Dafydd Ddu Eryri ac a delais am eu rhwymo yn nghyd megys y gwelir yma er's llawer o flynyddoedd yn ol ...'.

A collection of exercise and notebooks, and a few loose leaves, containing poems, prose compositions, and miscellaneous memoranda [by, and in the hand of, Isaac Jones, Diserth, co. Flint]. The literary compositions, most of which are in draft form, include 'pryddestau' entitled 'Abel', 'Cartref' [for versions of these two poems, see also N.L.W. MS. 12625B], 'Y Bibl', and 'Deborah' (1872 ); 'englynion' headed 'i'r Fronwen', 'i'r Hen Lanc' (1864), 'i'r Tobacco' ( 1871), 'i'r Talegraph' [sic] (1871), 'i Fryn Gwenallt, Abergele' (1872), 'Peiriant Dyrnu' (1875), and 'Y Lloer'; miscellaneous poems called 'Cartref Cysurus', 'Sadrach, Mesach, ac Abednego' (1873), 'Mynydd yr Olwydd' (1874 ), 'Pulpud bach y teulu' (1874), 'Dyfodiad dwfr Llanefydd i Abergele' (1874), and 'Y Bwriad'; essays, or the texts of papers or addresses, on 'Golwg ar ddifyrwch y bobl yn Nghymru yn yr oes hon ar oes or blaen . . .' ( 1878), 'Gwasanaeth yr emyn' (1905), 'Gwneyd Cyfrif' (1925), 'Y Bardd a'r diwynydd' (fragment), 'Dyledswydd yr athraw i fod yn ffyddlawn tuag at yr ysgol Sabbothol', 'Darbodaeth', 'Gwyrthiau', 'Y Pwysigrwydd o iawn ddefnyddio oriau hamddenol', and 'Dringo'r mynyddoedd'; and a moral tale ('ffugchwedl ddirwestol') entitled 'Y Graith hynod, neu y ddau gymeriad'. Many of these poems and essays were composed for submission in competitions at local eisteddfodau or literary meetings. Other items include adjudications on 'telynegion' submitted for competition at a literary meeting held at Dyserth, February 1920, and in an essay competition for an essay on 'Taith Israel o'r Aipht hyd Sinai'; a copy of an announcement of a literary and musical meeting to be held at the Calvinistic Methodist chapel, Llysfaen, 2 November 1876; a report on Sunday schools [held in connection with Calvinistic Methodist churches] in the Denbigh district (n.d.); a list of preachers who preached ? in the Calvinistic Methodist chapel, Dyserth, 1917-1922; a list of preaching engagements, ? undertaken by Isaac Jones, 1893-1925, with the texts preached upon; sermon notes; and accounts, 1876-1877,? of the Calvinistic Methodist Church, Colwyn.

A collection of compositions submitted for competition at various eisteddfodau - 'Awdl: Pulpud Cymru' by 'Taliesin Pont-y-pridd', undated; 'Cywydd: Nodwydd Cleopatra' by 'Ysbryd Moses' (Eisteddfod Gadeiriol y Cymry, Llanrwst, 1878); 'Awdlau: Y Goleuni' by 'Adda Jones' and 'Llywelyn' ( Eisteddfod New York, 1884); 'Awdl: Mynydd y Ty' by 'Ysbryd Taliesin' ( Arwest Farddonol Glan Geirionydd, 1896); 'Llawlyfr Eisteddfodol' - a critical essay by 'Eisteddfodwr'.

A composite volume containing poetical compositions in strict and free metre by, and in the autograph of, Ebenezer Thomas ('Eben Fardd'). The wording on the title-page of the first part of the volume is 'Cyfansoddion Barddonol gan Ebenezer Thomas, Clynnog. 1843' but some of the items in the section are later than this date. The remainder of the manuscript appears to consist of two other sections, the one containing miscellaneous poems, some dated, c. 1833-60, the other containing 'Y Cleopiad', 1847, and a number of 'englynion'. Alterations and interlineations have been made in some of the poems. Besides the Welsh poems - many of which, though not all, are included in Gweithiau Barddonol, &c. Eben Fardd [?1873] - the volume contains a few items of English verse. There are also one or two printed items, including a sheet of harvest hymns entitled 'Hymnau Cynauaf' by Ebenezer Thomas, 1843 (Caernarfon: Argraffwyd gan James Rees).
