Wynnstay fee farm rents

The collection comprises property in p's Wrexham, Erbistock, Llangollen, Llandysilio-yn-Iâl, Llanarmon-yn-Iâl, Llansanffraid Glynceiriog, and Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, co. Denb. The rents are due at Michaelmas, not Lady Day. From 1884 (R140/1d) onwards, property in p. Erbistock is omitted. From 1890 (R146/1d) onwards, property in p. Llansanffraid Glynceiriog is omitted. Denb.; in p. Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, cos Denb. and Mont.; in p's Bangor Is-coed and Overton, co. Until 1885 (R140/1a), the rentals below are arranged according to whether the estates were held in fee simple, tail male or tail general, whereas the properties in the separate series of Farm and cottage receiving rentals are arranged according to the more familiar pattern of estates (Llangedwyn and Llanforda rents, Wynnstay and Ruthin rents, Llwydiarth rents, Cyfeiliog/Llanbryn-mair rents, Glan-llyn rents). Glascoed and Llanforda estates

The Glascoed estate was acquired by Sir William Williams (d. 1700) through his marriage with Margaret, daughter and coheiress of Watkin Kyffin of Glascoed, and the Llanforda estate was purchased by Sir William from Edward Lloyd of Llanforda in 1676. They comprise property in p's Llansilin (t's Moelfre, Bodlith, Priddbwll, Lloran, Sycharth, Lledrod, Estynallan, Rhiwlas), Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog, [Llangadwaladr] (t. Tregeiriog), Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant (t's Henfachau, Prys Fechan), [Glyntraean formerly part of Llangollen] (t's Grogeniddon, Hafodgynfor), [Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog] (t. Llywarch), [Llangollen] (t. Dinbren), [Ruabon] (t. Cristionydd Fechan), Llanynys and Derwen, all co. Denb. The following property has been added at various times:. Encroachments in the manors of Cyfeiliog and Arwystli

The collection comprises property in the manor of Cyfeiliog (p's Machynlleth, Cemais, Llanwrin and Llanbryn-mair), and the manor of Arwystli (p. Llangurig), all in co. Mont. From 1878 (R133/1b) onwards, property in p's Darowen and Penegoes (Manor of Cyfeiliog) and p. Llandinam (Manor of Arwystli) are included. From 1885 (R140/1b) onwards, property in p. Carno (Manor of Arwystli) is included. Property in p. Penegoes (Manor of Cyfeiliog) is omitted after 1891 (R146/1b). Collector: Owen Hughes, 1874-1880. 'Rents for sporting'

The collection comprises lands in the manors of Cyfeiliog and Arwystli, and in p. Trawsfynydd, co. Mer. Lands in p. Llangurig, co. Mont., are mentioned from 1886 (R141/1c) onwards. Lands in p. Llangywer, co. Mer., mentioned from 1892 (R147/1c) onwards. Lands in p's Llangollen, Llandegla, Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd, Ruthin, and Llandysilio [yn-Iâl], co. Denb., and in p. Llanbryn-mair, co. Mont., and part of the Llwydiarth estate, contained in one or more of the volumes from 1894 (R149) onwards. Collector: Owen Hughes, 1874-1880. Glascoed, Llanforda and Plas-y-ward estates A

From 1716 onwards the combined collections of Glascoed, Llanforda, and Plas-y-ward are divided into two, A and B. Collection A comprises property in co. Denb.: p's Llansilin (t's Sycharth, Rhiwlas), Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant (t's Trefeilw, Banhadla, Tre-wern, Henfachau, Prys, Gartheryr), Llanarmon Mynydd Mawr, (Maen Gwynedd), [Glyntraean] (t. Hafodgynfor), Llangollen (t. Dinbren), Abenbury, Wrexham (t's Erlas, Acton), Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd (t's Garthgynan, Euarth, Derwen), Llanfwrog, Ruthin, Llanbedr Dyffryn Clwyd, Llanhychan, Llandyrnog, Aberchwiler, Denbigh, Llanynys (t's Gyffylliog, Trefechan, Ysgeibion), Llangwm in commote of Dinmael, Manor of Llwynedd and Rhisgog. Mine rents and royalties

The collection comprises mines and quarries in cos Denb., Mont., Mer., and Salop. The mines and quarries are named but not the parishes in which they are situated. The rents specified below were due at various times throughout the year. Collector: Owen Hughes, 1877-1880. Sir Watkin Williams Wynn, 6th bart, died on 9 May 1885, and from 1885 (R141/1a) onwards, the properties in the preceding series are arranged as follows: (i) The estates of which Lady Williams Wynn is seised for life with remainder in tail male, consisting of property in Oswestry, Bishop's Castle, Wrexham, Gresford, Ruabon, Bangor Is-coed, Tilston, Holt, Llangollen, Llandysilio-yn-Iâl, Llanarmon-yn-Iâl, Llandegla, Llangedwyn, Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog, Llansilin, Llansanffraid-ym-Mechain and Pennant [i.e. Llangedwyn estate]. A duplicate copy of the rental for year 1719, without the co. Caern property, is to be found in NLW, Powysland Club Deposit, Parcel 27. From R21/7 (1721) onwards, with the exception of R15 (1722-5), property in Wrexham is added. R18/1 (1735) and R18/5 (1735) contain property in cos Denb. and Mont. only. R18/5 adds p. Llangedwyn and omits p. Llansilin (t. Lledrod). It also includes property from the Llanfihangel and Mochnant Collections.

Glascoed, Llanforda and Plas-y-ward estates B/1-3

From 1739 (R 24/15) the collection is divided into three: B1: property in cos Denb. and Mont., and p. Llanymawddwy (t. Cywarch), co. Mer. B2: property in co. Mer. except p. Llanymawddwy (t. Cywarch). B3: property in co. Caern. Division B was re-organised in 1772 as follows: property in co. Denb., in Collection IV; property in co. Mer. in collection I; property in co. Mont. in Collections I and III; and property in co. Caern., in Collection V.

Purchased estate (1748)

The estate comprises property in p's Wrexham, Llanrhaeadr-yng-Nghinmeirch, ?Llangwyfan, [Llansilin] (t. Sycharth), and [Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant] (t. Cefn-coch), all in co. Denb., and in p. Overton, co. Flint. Collector: Thomas Jones, 1750-1772. For the continuation of this collection post-1772, see Collection II.

Llwydiarth estate

Sir Watkin Williams Wynn (d. 1749) acquired the Llwydiarth estate in 1715 through his marriage with Ann, daughter and heiress of Edward Vaughan of Llwydiarth. The rents of the estate are divided into the following collections: (1) Llanfihangel collection, (2) Mochnant collection, (3) Llangedwyn collection, and (4) Llanfair collection. Arranged into the Llanfihangel, Mochnant, and Llangedwyn collections as one entity; and the Llanfair collection on its own as another. Post 1772, the collections continue as follows: Llanfihangel collection to Collection III; Mochnant collection to Collection I; Llangedwyn collection to Collections I and IV; Llanfair collection (co. Mont.) to Collection III; Llanfair collection (p. Mallwyd, co. Mer.) to Collection I.

Glan-llyn estate

Sir Watkin Williams Wynn (d. 1749) acquired the Glan-llyn estate with the Llwydiarth estate. The estate comprised property in p's Llanuwchllyn (t's Penaran, Cynllwyd, Pennant-lliw, Tre Castell), Llanycil (Bala Town, t. Streflyn), Llangywer, Llanfor, Llandderfel and Corwen, all co. Mer. From R26/6 (1741?), property in [p. Llanuwchllyn] (Caergai) is added, and between 1744 and 1748 (R27/9-R29/6) and in 1750 (R30/5) the chief rents of the manor of Pennant-lliw are also included. Collectors: David Morgan, 1626, John Evans, 1701-1706 and 1714-1728, Randle Jones, 1736-1751, and Thomas Jones 1752-1772. After 1772, this collection continues in Collection I.

Manor of Cyfeiliog chief rents

The chief rents are on property in p's Penegoes, Llanwrin, Cemais, Darowen, Llanbryn-mair and Machynlleth (including t's Isygarreg and Uwchygarreg), all in co. Mont. Most of the chief rents were collected at Michaelmas (the date of collection is not always given in the rentals), so that R32/2 contains rents due at Michaelmas 1754, not Lady Day 1754. The collectors are not named.

Manor of Cyfeiliog: Mathafarn estate, Rhiwsaeson estate and Tirymynych estate

The collection contains three estates, all in co. Mont.: the Mathafarn estate in p's Llanwrin, Darowen, Llanbryn-mair, Mallwyd, Machynlleth, Penegoes and Cemais; the Rhiwsaeson estate in p's Llanbryn-mair, Darowen and Llanwrin; and the Tirymynych estate in p's Penegoes, Machynlleth, Llanbryn-mair, Cemais and Llanwrin. R32/8 (1755) to R34/5 (1758) contain only the Mathafarn estate. R34/10 (1760) contains only the Rhiwsaeson estate. From R34/8 (1759) onwards the Mathafarn estate is combined with the Rhiwsaeson estate. R34/8 also contains the Tirymynych Estate. This is the only time the Tirymynych estate occurs until R41/5 (1772). R34/5 includes the Toll Book of Machynlleth Fair for May, June, July, Sept. and Nov. 1757. Collectors: George Evans, 1755, Humphrey Roberts, 1756-1758, and Rice Hughes, 1759-1771.

Purchased estate (1768)

The estate comprises property in p's Ruabon, Llangedwyn, Llanfihangel-yng-Ngwynfa, Llansilin and Wrexham, co. Denb, in p's Llangurig, Llanbryn-mair and Pennant, co. Mont., and in p's Llanuwchllyn and Llandderfel, co. Mer. Collector: Thomas Jones, 1768-1772. For the continuation of this estate post-1772, see Collections I and II.

Wynnstay home rents

Property in p's Ruabon (t's Dinhinlle, Cristionydd), Marchwiail, Erbistock (Eyton Park), Holt and Is-y-coed, co. Denb. Collectors: Mr Stowing (1693-1694), Thomas Wattall (1694), John Jones (1695-1706), Robert Simon (1715-1723), Thomas Jones (1732-1770) and Randle Jones (1772). From R5/8 (1700) onwards p. Ruabon (t. Morton Wallicorum) is added. From R5/11 (1702) onwards p. Wrexham is added. It had been incorporated previously in R9/6a-e (1697-1701) and R9/7 (1700). From R5/1 (1709) onwards p. Is-y-Coed is omitted. It is incorporated from R10/9 (1712) onwards in the Stanwardine Collection. From R11/6 (1718) onwards p. Holt is omitted.
