The file comprises a variety of printed books and booklets relating to art and artists, 1845-1903, including The Royal Academy, its uses and abuses, 1898; several National Eisteddfod programmes where H. Clarence Whaite was adjudicator; the Oddfellows' Quarterly Magazine, with a memoir of Henry Whaite, 1845; reports of art committees on various exhibitions, copies of lectures, etc.

Queen's jubilee

The file comprises a small amount of papers relating to the album presented to the Queen on the occasion of the jubilee year of her reign, 1886-1887, together with a draft of an address to her on the occasion of her diamond jubilee, 1897.

Whaite's, Bridge St.

The file comprises papers relating to Whaite's Fine Art Gallery, Bridge St., Manchester, including exhibition catalogues 1873, 1879, with exhibition circulars, 1873-1878, a booklet entitled 'Christmas and its Customs', published at Whaite's German Fair, together with an information leaflet regarding the German Fair, and photocopies of silhouettes, [1820s-1840s]. The file also includes a press cutting, 1907, relating to the German Fair.
