Photo Album

An album of photographs, with a small number of related documents, 1928-2017 (with gaps). The album documents the activities of the Bristol Welsh Society, arranged into themed sections including: ‘Photographs including Presidents’ (1949; 1951-1953; 1957-1958; 1960; 1979), with a list of the Bristol Welsh Society’s Presidents, 1944-2002 ([2002]); ‘Dydd Gwyl Dewi Happy Memories of St David’s Day Celebrations…’ (1948-1950; 1952-1954; 1956-1957; 1959; 1979; 1984), also including press cuttings (1957); ‘Ladies Choir’ (1953; 1956); ‘Eisteddfodau…’ (1953; 1966; 1990; c.2008), including a press cutting ([1966]) and a copy of an Eisteddfod score sheet for the Bristol Welsh Society Pensioners’ Choir ([1990]); ‘The Dancing Years’ ([?1945]); ‘Tennis…’ ([?1945]), with a note (1952); ‘Rambling’ ([?1945x?1955]); Christmas parties ([?1950s]); garden parties (2011; 2017); ‘Bathodyn y Gymdeithas’ ([?2000s]), including notes regarding the Society’s Badge of Office (1928; 1930; 1940; 1960); and ‘Miscellanea’, including photographs of various activities and events such as dinners and concerts ([?1950s]; 1953; 1955; [1960s]), press cuttings (1944; 1954; 1966), notes (1956; 1958), and rules, results, and programme for the Inter-town Eisteddfod (1969). The archive of Cymdeithas Cymry Caerodor (the Bristol Welsh Society), 1920-2019, including the records of the Society in its earlier form as Cymdeithas Cymrodorion Caerodor. The collection consists of papers, correspondence, and financial documents, all related to the establishment and running of the Society, including meeting minutes, 1920-2018 (with gaps); financial documents and account statements, 1944-2010, and secretary’s reports and correspondence, 1985-2017 (with gaps), along with other general administrative papers, 1986-2018 (with gaps); and papers, correspondence, photographs, and press cuttings relating to the Society’s events and activities, 1948-2019 (with gaps), including rallies, Eisteddfodau, St David’s Day celebrations, concerts, and other events including the Society’s 50th anniversary celebrations in 1994.

Meeting minutes and related documents, 2005-2013, consisting of minutes of the General Committee Meetings (2005-2013); minutes of the Annual General Meeting (2011-2012); minutes of the Annual Concert Sub-committee (2006; 2008); minutes of the Choir Meeting (2008); and minutes of the Inter-town Co-ordinating Committee (2006). The file also includes a Society term card, 2008-2009 ([2008]); an account statement, 2006-2007 (2007); and a financial statement (2007).

Financial documents and related correspondence, 2002-2003, consisting mainly of account balances and statements (May 2002-April 2003), with auditor’s comments; invoices and receipts related to Society events and outings (2002-2003); and including letters, (2002-2003), from E. J. Savage (Treasurer of the Bristol Welsh Society), Faye Banks, David Singleton, and John T. Whitehouse. The file also includes a Treasurer’s report (2002-2003), and insurance renewal certificate and schedule (2002).

Constitution

Two copies of the Bristol Welsh Society’s constitution, 1986 and 2006, including details of the Society’s aims and objectives, membership and fees, officers, committee, financial arrangements, constitutional changes, and arrangements for the Annual General Meetings and Extraordinary General Meetings. The 2006 copy also includes an annex to the constitution regarding the inauguration procedure for the Society’s President; and the file also contains a constitutional amendment proposed at the Annual General Meeting (2001).

Cards, letters, and related documents, 1940 and 1994, mainly related to the Bristol Welsh Society’s 50th anniversary celebrations. The file consists mainly of members’ replies to the Society’s invitations to the 50th Anniversary Dinner, 1994, including cards and letters from A. Jack; Margaret Williams; Hirrell Ferne; John Edwards; Ken and Mona Giles; Avril Davidge; Meriel John; Mari McHale; Dorothy and Maldwyn Rogers (Treasurer of the Bristol Welsh Society); Beti Prentice; Mattie Lewis (Secretary of the Taunton Welsh Society); Madge and Gordon Jones; Roger Smith; Ceurwyn Rees; Gladys Leather; Jean Williams; G. A volume of the history, records, and activities of the Bristol Welsh Society

A printed volume, 2019, detailing the history and activities of the Bristol Welsh Society and incorporating copies of a number of documents from the Society’s records, 1920-2018 (with gaps), including photographs, minutes, term cards and programmes, and documents relating to the Society’s 50th anniversary celebrations; and copies of programmes for Eisteddfodau and rallies, charity concerts, and social evenings. The volume also includes a copy of a letter (2019), sent by Pedr ap Llwyd, National Library of Wales, confirming the Library’s acceptance of the Society’s collections.
