[Praça do Comércio, Lisbon]

Praça do Comércio in which stands a statue of Dom Jose I on horseback mounted on an ornamental plinth. Behind the statue is an ornate arched gateway flanked by public buildings. On top of the arch, Glory stands a full 23 feet high and holds laurels over Valor and Genius. The inscription reads: VIRTUTIBUS MAIORUM UT SIT OMNIBUS DOCUMENTO. P.P.D.(see AJS 381 for a superior image)

A flat, almost featureless plain with a village centre right. Reminiscent of the Picardy landscape this is possibly the site of a WW1 battle.

"Sabrina" moored (bottom left) in an unknown, probably Italian, port. AJS 257 is of the same port; on one of the buildings is 'Ente Bacini', which today is a shipyard in Genoa, suggesting that this view could also be of Genoa.
