The press cuttings are taken from a variety of local and national newspapers, e.g., Monmouthshire Merlin, Merthyr Guardian, Hereford Times, Seren Cymru, Seren Gomer, Illustrated Times, Morning Post, The Times, The Observer, etc., and items of Welsh interest include accounts of coronation festivities at Abergavenny, 1831, and of the loss of the 'Rothsay Castle', 1831; a list of literary and musical competitions arranged by 'Cymreigyddion yr Alarch', Merthyr Tydfil, undated; accounts of the opening of the Crumlin Viaduct, 1857, of the destruction of the South Wales Railway bridge over the river Usk at Newport, 1848, and of the colliery explosion at Risca, 1860; and a mass of poetry by contemporary local bards. NLW MS 12355F contains two engraved portraits of the Reverend Francis Hiley, Llanwenarth, and at the end of the same manuscript are some additional press cuttings mounted by Lady H. A. Robinson, relating largely to the death of King Edward VII. The outside upper covers are labelled respectively 'Caradawc's Scrap Book No. 1' and 'Caradawc's Scrap Book No. 2'.

A scrap-book compiled by Laura Pughe (née Parry, 'Meillionen Gwynedd', 1835-1936), Helygog, Brithdir, co. Merioneth, containing poetry, 1856-1936, addressed to herself, her husband Robert Pughe (d. 1882), and their family, including poetry by Morris Davies ('Meurig Ebrill'), Howell Elvet Lewis ('Elfed') and John Owen Williams ('Pedrog'), together with press cuttings and other related items.

A scrap-book inferentially compiled by John Lloyd Jones ('Clwydwenfro'; 1835-1919) containing press cuttings and a few manuscript items. Some of the cuttings are dated within the 1850s-1870s and among the more interesting titles are 'Hynodion Cwm Rhondda .... Testyn Cystadleuol Eisteddfod y Porth, Nadolig, 1861'; 'Collegiate and University Education in Wales'; 'Llythyr oddiwrth y Parch. Morris Phillips, Cenhadwr i India'; 'Teyrnged i Goffadwriaeth Ioan Pedr'; 'Beirniadaeth ar Gyfansoddiadau Barddonol Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Aberdar, Awst 1861'; 'Llangollen Great National Eisteddfod' [1858]; 'Y Ffrwydriad yn Abercarn'; 'Sketches of Cardiff Preachers'; etc. The manuscript material comprises a tale entitled 'The Bride of Santa Croce', 19 November 1856, described in an annotation by J. Ll. James as 'the composition of the late John Griffith Davies (son of the Rev. J. Davies ['Siôn Gymro'], Glandwr, Pembrokeshire) who wrote it and sent it to John Lloyd James, then a student at Carmarthen College, that he might fill up the outline', and verses entitled 'Y Messiah', etc. addressed to John Ll. James, Berllandawel, Llanglwydwen and annotated in the latter's hand 'J. G. Davies, Yetwen, pan yn Narberth', etc. The outer upper cover is inscribed, in the hand of J. H. Davies, 'Articles and poetry from Cyfaill y Werin and other papers'.

An essay (33 pp.) on total abstinence entitled 'Traethawd ar y manteision ac anfanteision Llwyrymwrthodiad oddiwrth bob math o wirodydd meddwol o dan arwydd y Rhiban Glas' by 'Eukrateias' (J. Myles Jones, Llansawel). Written at the end are a few miscellaneous englynion, etc., among them being an 'Englyn i Bont ar Llechau, ger Llangadog, sir Gaerfyrddin'.

An essay (27 pp.) on 'Cariad neu dosturi at bawb dynion, fel rhan hanfodol o wir grefydd' by 'Crefyddwr tosturiol', which was submitted for competition at Cwmorthin Slate Quarry, Blaenau Ffestiniog, 1876; and verses to [the Reverend] William Ellis, Brontyrnor, Maentwrog, by Hywell Hughes, 1874.

Llwyd ap D'd ap Einion, Ifan Tew Brydydd, Griffyth Owen, William Philip, Doctor Sion Kent, Robert Leia, Iolo Coch, Sion Brwynog, Meilyr Brydydd, Gwalchmai ap Meilyr, Hugh Morris, Ieuan Tudur Owen, William Llyn, Owen Gwynedd, Iefan Brydydd Hir, Davidd Nanmor, Tudur Penllyn, Huw Kollwyd [recte Cae Llwyd], Mr. Edmwnd Pris, Sion Cerri, S[y]r Owen ap Gwilim, Hugh Arwystl, D. Wynn], undated (thoughts on religion, references to Wynn family and William Vaughan). The volume was begun about the year 1808 and completed in 1849, but the personal memoranda have been continued to 1875. Seven of the 'cywyddau' are said to have been transcribed from 'llyfr maesglase' and one 'englyn' from 'hen lyfyr Cadwaladr David'.

A volume originally used largely by the Reverend Thomas Richards, Darowen as an account book, 1821-6, of the Darowen Auxiliary of the Society for Promoting Christianity among the Jews ('Cymdeithas Gynnorthwyol ir Iuddewon' or 'Cyfaill Israel'). The Auxiliary Society was established on 12 January 1821 and the account book contains rules, lists of officers, particulars of individual subscriptions (and of collections previously made during the period 1816-20), and copies of letters of acknowledgment of annual contributions to the parent Society. The remainder, and by far the greater part, of the volume was subsequently used largely by Mary Richards to record transcripts of 'carolau', 'englynion', 'cywyddau', hymns, etc. by Hugh Jones (Maesglase), W. A volume almost entirely in the hand of Mary Richards, Darowen largely containing poetry ('cywyddau', 'englynion', etc.) by Rowland Williams, Sion Philip, Guttun Owen, William Philip, Dr John Kent, Dafydd ap E[dmwnt], Edmwnt Prys, Robin Ddu o Fon, James Dwnid [recte Dwnn], Thom. Williams (1817), Iolo Goch, Ifan Tew Brydydd, Taliesin, Davydd ap Gwilim, Huw Arwystl, Hugh Morris, Edward Morris, Walter Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'], [David Richards, 'Dewi Silin'], Robert Parry (Eglwys fach), David Rowlands (Plas Isa, Dolgelley), Rev. D. Davies (Castle Caereinion), John Parry, Robert Davies (Nantglyn) and Hu ap Ier. ap Robert, and anonymous poems. Among other items included are a code of manners ('Dysg Vanners dda'); a pedigree of Oliver Cromwell; a drawing and a description of a brass object discovered at Hen fryn fawr near Caersiws [sic], Montgomeryshire, 1808, 'Teilyn[g]dod a theithi yr Iaith Gymraeg', etc. [from Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg'): Cyfrinach Beirdd Ynys Prydain (Abertawy, 1829)]; and a diagram illustrating the civil order and the ecclesiastical order of the months. Much of the volume appears to have been written during the period 1817-18 but there are some personal and other memoranda dated to 1857. Some of the items appear to have been copied from NLW MS 2691 ('Llyfr Pant Phillip').
