A group of fifty-four holograph letters, 1929-1932, from Thomas Jones, Cerrigellgwm[-isa], Ysbyty Ifan, Denbighshire, to Evan Roberts, Llandderfel, Merioneth, relating to the writer's literary and musical pursuits. Some letters refer to the Welsh ancestry of Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States of America. Also included in the collection is a holograph letter, 15 November, 1932, from Einion Jones, Cerrigellgwm-isa, to Evan Roberts, enclosing a pedigree of his father Thomas Jones and a copy of the latter's last poem.

Some one hundred and forty letters, 1948-1997, in English and Welsh, to John Elwyn from various correspondents (surnames S-W), both personal and work related.

Over a hundred and fifty letters, 1961-88 in English, Welsh and French, from various correspondents (surnames Jones-W). The letters, some of which include fair copies of published poems, are chiefly concerned with contemporary writing in Wales in both English and Welsh and with the recipient's work as editor of a number of volumes in this field. The correspondents include Glyn Jones (36, and three poems) 1967-86, Gwyn Jones (6) 1967-87, Saunders Lewis (1) 1974, Roland Mathias (17) 1961-86, Leslie Norris (32, and one poem) 1967-86, Eigra Lewis Roberts (2) 1970-3, R. S. Thomas (1) 1975, John Tripp (8) 1968-78, Harri Webb (14) 1967-79, and Kyffin Williams (8) 1970-1.

A commonplace book of John Lloyd James ('Clwydwenfro'; 1835-1919), Congregational minister at March, Cambridgeshire, etc. The volume, begun in 1907, includes verses entitled 'Deucanmlwyddiant Rhydyceisiad, cyfarfod dathliad, 26 Awst, 1907' by Jonathan N. Davies ('Carnalaw'; 1833-1912), Liverpool; a list of members of Rhydyceisiaid Congregational Church, Carmarthenshire, 1803-17; extracts from accounts of Glandŵr Congregational Church, Pembrokeshire, 1723-60; a list of the themes and texts of sermons preached at the bicentenary services of Rhydyceisiaid Congregational Church, 1907; transcripts of hymns by the Reverend Lewis Thomas, Bwlch-sais, Llanfyrnach (d. 1745), first minister of Glandŵr Congregational Church; extracts from a manuscript which includes notes of sermons by Lewis Thomas; holographs and press cuttings of poetry, and translations of poetry, by 'Clwydwenfro', 1908-10; notes relating to the relationships of family members of 'Clwydwenfro'; a list of baptisms at Glandŵr Congregational Church, 1750-9; a biographical note on Jonathan N. Davies ('Carnalaw'); etc. Inset are the 'call' extended to 'Clwydwenfro' to the Congregational churches of St. Brides-super-Ely and Whitchurch, 1860; the confession of faith of 'Clwydwenfro' at his induction at St. Brides-super-Ely and Whitchurch, 1860; a cutting containing an obituary notice of 'Clwydwenfro', 1919; an incomplete holograph letter from 'Carnalaw' to 'Clwydwenfro'; etc.

Notebook, 1971-9, in Welsh and English, comprising poetry by Kate Davies and other local country poets, including her uncle Thomas Jacob Thomas ('Sarnicol', 1873-1945), together with penillion calennig and penillion telyn, puzzles and proverbs, and references to folk customs and local traditions. Related papers, found loose inside the volume, have been filed separately (MS 23117iiD).

An essay on 'Caniadaeth y Cyssegr'; notes of a sermon by Thomas Lloyd, Colwyn Bay; two letters, 1910, from Griffith Griffiths, Barry, to [Sir] Henry Lewis; and a typescript poem 'Beddau'r Milwyr' by Sam Jones, Campello, Massachusetts.

Manuscript and printed matter and miscellaneous memoranda acquired by Thomas Edwards. Among them are a notice of musical works published by Thomas Edwards; a programme of the dedication service and opening of the organ at Rhuddlan Parish Church, 1915; and holograph poetry of Blaenau Ffestiniog interest - 'Rhanbarth Conglywal a Theigil', 'Rhanbarth Bethania a Fourcrosses' - by Robert Roberts ('Isallt'), 1910.

Miscellaneous papers consisting of occasional verses (2) repeated to J. H. Davies by his mother as attributed to W[illiam] W[illiams, Pantycelyn]; items in the autograph of Thomas E. Ellis, viz. a draft advertisement for his intended edition of the writings of Morgan Llwyd o Wynedd in two volumes and a draft of the foreword ('Rhagair') by T. E. E[llis] dated 'Dydd Calan 1899' to [Banciau pentre neu glybiau tir i dyddynwyr, gweithwyr, siopwyr, &c. ... (Bala, [1899]), a translation by Ivan T. Davies of a booklet by Henry W. Wolff]; and a holograph 'cywydd' by T. Gwynn Jones 'I'r Nyth Gwag ym Mro Gynin Mawrth 19 1910. I'm cyfaill, J. H. D.' in a wrapper addressed to J. H. Davies 'From T. G. J. with Compliments'.

The original manuscript of an article entitled 'Philistiaeth yng Nghymru' (emended from 'Philistiaeth Lenyddol Cymru') by the Reverend William Richard Jones ('Goleufryn'), published in Y Geninen, 1885, pp. 275-83, under the pseudonym of 'Siluriad', together with the manuscripts of a lengthy footnote by the editor, John Thomas ('Eifionydd'), and five holograph letters, 1890, from 'Eifionydd' to 'Goleufryn' relating thereto; a holograph letter, 1887, from the Reverend J. C. Jones, Mankato, Minnesota, U.S.A., to W. R. Jones ('Goleufryn') (a preaching engagement); a holograph letter, 1904, from [O. G. Owen] ('Alafon'), Cwmyglo, to Mrs. Jones, wife of 'Goleufryn', relating to a contribution to the writer's edition of Gweithiau Llenyddol Goleufryn (Caernarfon, 1904); and a holograph poem ('Cywydd: 'Tylodi'') by 'Alafon'.

Griffiths (1870-1918), Calvinistic Methodist minister, Goginan, Cardiganshire containing an account of the opening of Dyffryn Chapel, Goginan transcribed from Y Drysorfa, 1843, pp. 244-5; and verses beginning 'Beth yw'r goedwig yn y gauaf' by J. M. Griffiths, 1917. Inset are a brief history of Dyffryn Church; a holograph letter from J. J. Morgan, Mold to [ ] Griffiths, n.d. (inability to trace a photograph), and two letters from Edward Jenkins, Llandrindod Wells to Mr [ ] Morris, 1916 (the possibility of identifying the father of William Morris Hughes, the Australian Prime Minister, with a native of Goginan).

A holograph manuscript of poems by Iorwerth Cyfeiliog Peate, described by the author, in a letter [to the Librarian of the National Library of Wales ], 26 June [19]39, accompanying the manuscript, as the printers' copy of his volume of verse, Plu'r Gweunydd. [Cerddi a Sonedau (Lerpwl, 1933)]. Three points of difference, however, can be noted between the text of the present manuscript and the published work - (a) the difference in the order of the poems, which, in the printed volume, have been grouped under subject headings, this not being the case in the manuscript (the author, in the above mentioned letter, mentions this difference, and also answers the charge made by one critic, that, in grouping the poems thus, he had copied the example of 'Eifion Wyn' [Eliseus Williams], by stating that the arrangement under subject headings was not his idea, but had been done at the request of the publishers), (b) the printed volume contains four poems, 'Pentre'r Celyn' (p. 17), 'I Glychau'r Goets Fawr' (p. 38), 'Y Galw' (pp. 43-4), and 'Yn Dawel, Bêr Ddyfi' (p. 61), which do not appear in the manuscript, and (c) minor textual variations, e.g., A'th unllef oriog / O' th unllef oriog ('Maldwyn', line 1), Ofer it ddisgwyl wrth Dduw Dad / ar Dduw Dad ('Adar To yn Chwefror', last line), and Yfory mi rannaf yr holl fyd / i'r holl fyd ('Cyfoeth', line 1).
