[Two women]

[Bethel, Tir Halen]

Gable end and main entrance of Bethel chapel, Tir Halen - a small brick built chapel set in scrubland. Slide 4689/182 is a variant of this.

[Ditch]

A small ditch running with water runs towards the horizon, bisecting the photograph.

[Wild Roses]

In the foreground is a wild rosebush with creamy-yellow flowers. In the distance can be seen mountains, their peaks shrouded in mist. These may be the roses mentioned on page 172 of 'A Wider Sky' (Gomer 1991). See also 4689/194 for a slightly different view of the same scene.

[Barn & poplars]

A barn in the centre of the frame in the middle distance. On the right is a stand of poplars. This is the barn off Avenida John D Evans, Trevelin photographed in 4689/196 & 4689/198. It is also the barn mentioned in 'A Wider Sky' on page 194 "...and so I continued until, one day, I drew onto a canvas an old wooden barn that stood off the Avenida John D Evans. I started to paint and as I did the colours became grey and dull. It was my forty-fifth canvas and I knew the spell was broken. I never painted another picture of Patagonia."

Lichen on a poplar, Cwm Hyfryd

Dilapidated farm buildings glimpsed through a gap in the trees. The trunk of the tree on the right is covered in orange lichen. See also 4689/219 for another view of the same buildings.

[Coralled horses]

Horses galloping around in a corral.This and 4689/227 may be from the location mentioned on p170 of 'A Wider Sky' (Gomer 1991) "On we galloped to the foothills of the Cordillera to a corral where stallions fought over the mares."
