Music in education

Reports relating to music education in Caernarfonshire, minutes of the Sub-Committee of the county council; feedback from headmasters to a memorandum on music for schools; documents relating to music in schools throughout Wales in general; and related correspondence. J. Lloyd Williams is the author of a number of these reports and the file also includes a critical report by him on the role of Welsh music in the music departments of the University of Wales.

Welsh Folk-Song Society

A group of papers, [1907x1944], consisting of editorial reports and notes, extracts from minutes of meetings, rules and financial statements, relating to the Welsh Folk-Song Society. Most of the papers are in typescript form or in J. Lloyd Williams's hand. A copy of the second part of his report, apparently to the meeting of the Society at Llangollen, [1908], is also included, together with a transcript of a letter, 1907, from Llew Tegid to William Preece.

Llew Tegid, 1851-1928

Folk songs and music

Numerous collections of folk songs and hymn tunes accumulated by J. Lloyd Williams before and during his period as Editor of the Journal of the Welsh Folk-Song Society, including material which he himself had recorded and items submitted to him by others. Indexes, lists, related notes and press cuttings are also included.

Accumulated manuscript volumes

Manuscript volumes, previously in the possession of musicians, collectors or precentors, and accumulated by Dr J. Lloyd Williams. Many were evidently acquired by him from J. H. Davies, Cwrt-mawr, and contain mainly folk songs and hymn tunes, recorded in eighteenth and nineteenth century Wales.

Tune-book

Hymn tunes collected, [mid-19 cent.], by John Harris of Llechryd, Cardiganshire, and John Thomas of Llanrug. A poem by 'Ebeneser Clynog' (possibly Eben Fardd) appears on the inside back cover.

Harris, John, fl. 1848
