Autograph notes of William Retlaw Williams towards the compilation of his The Parliamentary History of the County of Hereford (Brecknock, 1896), including notes on Herefordshire parliaments from the early thirteenth century through to the nineteenth century.
Loose in an envelope are two letters, 1896 and 1901, from Williams to Frances Christina Baldwyn-Childe of Kyle Park, Worcestershire; a postcard showing Brinfield Court, Herefordshire, which was burnt down in August 1925; press cuttings, 1887, from the Hereford Times; and a printed advertisement for William Retlaw Williams, The Parliamentary History of Worcestershire (Hereford, 1897). These loose items were found in a copy of Williams's The Parliamentary History of the County of Hereford which at one time belonged to Frances Christina Baldwyn-Childe, and were transferred from the Department of Printed Books at NLW in 1980.

A photostat copy of a document belonging to the Birmingham Reference Library, being a petition, [c. 1620]-1636, by one John Feild of Kings Norton, Worcestershire to the Rt Hon. William Compton, Earl of Northampton (d. 1630) and President of the Council in the Marches of Wales, requesting the Council to compel certain tenants of the manor of Kings Norton to fulfil their promise to bear a part of the expenses of Feild's action, while holding the office of bailiff of the manor, against one Thomas Rea in a dispute concerning the goods of two women who had been executed for witchcraft.

The papers include: (i) poetry, 1776-[1838x1843] (ff. 1-5), comprising verses to Sir Roger Mostyn, 5th bart, by Richard Williams of Fron, 1776 (f. 1), a song in honour of Sir Edward Pryce Lloyd, 2nd Bart (later 1st Baron Mostyn) by Mrs Piozzi, 1806 (f. 2), verses 'To the Lady Harriett Mostyn on the birth of her ninth child' by Angharad Llwyd, 1838 (f. 3), and 'Lines on Sir R[obert] W[ilia]mes Vaughan, Bart' by R. Typescript copies of the will of Gronow Owen ('Goronwy Ddu o Fôn') of the parish of Saint Andrews, co. Brunswick, Virginia, U.S.A., dated 3 July 1769, and proved in the Circuit Court for co. Brunswick, 26 March, 1770; of the will of his wife Ioney (Ionah) Harrison of the parish of Saint Andrew, dated 15 August, 1780, and proved in Brunswick County Court, 26 February, 1787; and of a dedimus, 20 December, 1762, to examine Rebecca Cocke of co. Lunenburg, and a certificate, 18 February, 1764, of the latter's relinquishments of her right of dower in a tract of 400 acres of land on the south side of the Reedy Creek in co. Brunswick conveyed by William Cocke and the said Rebecca, his wife, to Gronow Owen by indenture of bargain and sale dated 20 August, 1761. The dedimus and certificate were extracted from the Deed Books of the County Court of Brunswick.
