Letter from Leonard Courtney to A. J. Williams,

Is much interested in A. J. Williams's letter but doubts whether it should be published. Believes the changes A. J. Williams advocates are too 'sweeping' and will frighten away practical politicians. Discusses details of the re-distribution of parliamentary constituencies and the principles of proportional representation.

South Glamorgan election,

Press cuttings, 23 Jan.-5 Dec. 1885, mainly from the South Wales Daily News and the Central Glamorgan Gazette, describing the 1885 general election in South Glamorgan in which A. J. Williams was the successful Liberal candidate. There is also an account in A. J. Williams's hand of 'personal expenses' incurred by him as candidate, 7 May-4 Dec. 1885, and a copy of his election address.

South Glamorgan election,

Press cuttings describing the 1886 general election in South Glamorgan, together with copies of his election address in Welsh and English.

Letter from D. Brynmor Jones, 27 Bryanston Square, W, to A. J. Williams,

Is writing to Ponsonby. Juniors to A. J. Williams have obtained baronetcies but contributed generously to party funds. A. J. Williams has a strong claim. The personnel of the Liberal Party has changed greatly - Campbell-Bannerman does not know his party as Harcourt did. A. J. Williams's name has certainly been considered.

J. Herbert Lewis, 12 Downing St,

A. J. Williams. Will bring A. J. Williams's claims to the notice of the Prime Minister through George Whiteley. Has been of assistance to Eliot Crawshay Williams today.
