Endorsed by Mrs Kitty Idwal Jones, 'John Herbert Lewis's notes for reminsicences - Denbigh Grammar School, Plas, Llangwyfan etc. These were incorporated, to some extent, in his life of his father, Enoch Lewis, of which there is, unfortunately, only one copy in typescript. This is at Penucha'.

G6 and G7 contain a note by Mrs Kitty Idwal Jones, 'These two books - a French comedy & Poésie de Ermelinda Talia appear to have belonged to R. R. Hughes, possibly of Coed Helen, Caernarfon. At any rate they were bought, with a miscellaneous collection of books, at the Coed Helen Sale c.1948-50. The family seems to have had French connections, & R. R. Hughes may have spent some months in Paris around 1829. I have not gone into the history of the family, but one of the things I bought at the sale was a tea & coffee set of La Reine porcelain, produced by a Paris firm under the patronage of Marie Antoinette, & consequently pre-revolution. A contemporary copy of a letter from [--] Simolin, the Russian ambassador at Dresden, to [--] Wahrendorff, Prussian 'Legations Rath' and plenipotentiary. The writer complains about the ill-treatment and lack of justice suffered by the Russian soldiers in the Prussian service (the 'langen Rissischen Soldaten') and about the lack of courtesy shown to Russian diplomats.
