Much Wenlock collection

The collection comprises property in p. Much Wenlock, t. Stanwardine [p. Baschurch], and Oswestry, Shropshire. However, in RA2 & RA3 (1552/3 and 1580), several place-names are mentioned including the following: Weston Oxenbold, Shipton, Burton, Sturchley, Deuxhill, Sutton, Madeley, Presthope, Lushcot, Hatton, Stoke St Milborough, Downton, More, Caughley, Acton Round, Harley, Wigwig, Benthall, Posenhall, Atterley, Walton and Wyke, all in Shropshire. RA4 (1581) contains a rental of lands belonging to the Chantry of Wenlock, due unto Richard Modlicott, while RA5 [16 cent.?] contains a particular of all the lands belonging to the monastery of Wenlock. Purchased estate (1768)

The estate comprises property in p's Ruabon, Llangedwyn, Llanfihangel-yng-Ngwynfa, Llansilin and Wrexham, co. Denb, in p's Llangurig, Llanbryn-mair and Pennant, co. Purchased estate (1748)

Lordship of Cynllaith Owain chief rents

The collection comprises property in p's Llansilin (t's Lloran, Moelfre, Estynallan, Priddbwll, Sycharth, Rhiwlas) and [Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog] (t. Llywarch), all in co. Denb. Manor of Cyfeiliog chief rents

The chief rents are on property in p's Penegoes, Llanwrin, Cemais, Darowen, Llanbryn-mair and Machynlleth (including t's Isygarreg and Uwchygarreg), all in co. Mont. Most of the chief rents were collected at Michaelmas (the date of collection is not always given in the rentals), so that R32/2 contains rents due at Michaelmas 1754, not Lady Day 1754. The collectors are not named.

Manor of Cyfeiliog: Mathafarn estate, Rhiwsaeson estate and Tirymynych estate

The collection contains three estates, all in co. Mont.: the Mathafarn estate in p's Llanwrin, Darowen, Llanbryn-mair, Mallwyd, Machynlleth, Penegoes and Cemais; the Rhiwsaeson estate in p's Llanbryn-mair, Darowen and Llanwrin; and the Tirymynych estate in p's Penegoes, Machynlleth, Llanbryn-mair, Cemais and Llanwrin. R32/8 (1755) to R34/5 (1758) contain only the Mathafarn estate. R34/10 (1760) contains only the Rhiwsaeson estate. From R34/8 (1759) onwards the Mathafarn estate is combined with the Rhiwsaeson estate. R34/8 also contains the Tirymynych Estate. This is the only time the Tirymynych estate occurs until R41/5 (1772). R34/5 includes the Toll Book of Machynlleth Fair for May, June, July, Sept. and Nov. 1757. Carno collection

The collection comprises property in p's Trefeglwys, Carno, Llanwnnog, Penegoes, Llanbryn-mair, and Aberbygan [?t. Aberbechan in p. Llanllwchaearn], all co. Mont. R6/2 (1714-1715) includes land tax in Tir y Mynech in p. Llanbryn-mair, and in Carno collections for 1712. R6/9 (1714-1715) includes land tax for Carno and Llanbryn-mair collections for 1713 and 1714. Glan-llyn estate

Sir Watkin Williams Wynn (d. 1749) acquired the Glan-llyn estate with the Llwydiarth estate. The estate comprised property in p's Llanuwchllyn (t's Penaran, Cynllwyd, Pennant-lliw, Tre Castell), Llanycil (Bala Town, t. Streflyn), Llangywer, Llanfor, Llandderfel and Corwen, all co. Mer. From R26/6 (1741?), property in [p. Llanuwchllyn] (Caergai) is added, and between 1744 and 1748 (R27/9-R29/6) and in 1750 (R30/5) the chief rents of the manor of Pennant-lliw are also included. Collectors: David Morgan, 1626, John Evans, 1701-1706 and 1714-1728, Randle Jones, 1736-1751, and Thomas Jones 1752-1772. After 1772, this collection continues in Collection I.

Llwydiarth estate

Sir Watkin Williams Wynn (d. 1749) acquired the Llwydiarth estate in 1715 through his marriage with Ann, daughter and heiress of Edward Vaughan of Llwydiarth. The rents of the estate are divided into the following collections: (1) Llanfihangel collection, (2) Mochnant collection, (3) Llangedwyn collection, and (4) Llanfair collection. Arranged into the Llanfihangel, Mochnant, and Llangedwyn collections as one entity; and the Llanfair collection on its own as another. Post 1772, the collections continue as follows: Llanfihangel collection to Collection III; Mochnant collection to Collection I; Llangedwyn collection to Collections I and IV; Llanfair collection (co. Mont.) to Collection III; Llanfair collection (p. Mallwyd, co. Mer.) to Collection I.

Glascoed, Llanforda and Plas-y-ward estates A

From 1716 onwards the combined collections of Glascoed, Llanforda, and Plas-y-ward are divided into two, A and B. Collection A comprises property in co. Denb.: p's Llansilin (t's Sycharth, Rhiwlas), Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant (t's Trefeilw, Banhadla, Tre-wern, Henfachau, Prys, Gartheryr), Llanarmon Mynydd Mawr, (Maen Gwynedd), [Glyntraean] (t. Glascoed, Llanforda and Plas-y-ward estates B/1-3

From 1739 (R 24/15) the collection is divided into three: B1: property in cos Denb. and Mont., and p. Llanymawddwy (t. Cywarch), co. Mer. B2: property in co. Mer. except p. Llanymawddwy (t. Cywarch). B3: property in co. Caern. Division B was re-organised in 1772 as follows: property in co. Denb., in Collection IV; property in co. Mer. in collection I; property in co. Mont. in Collections I and III; and property in co. Caern., in Collection V.

Glascoed and Llanforda estates

The Glascoed estate was acquired by Sir William Williams (d. 1700) through his marriage with Margaret, daughter and coheiress of Watkin Kyffin of Glascoed, and the Llanforda estate was purchased by Sir William from Edward Lloyd of Llanforda in 1676. They comprise property in p's Llansilin (t's Moelfre, Bodlith, Priddbwll, Lloran, Sycharth, Lledrod, Estynallan, Rhiwlas), Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog, [Llangadwaladr] (t. Tregeiriog), Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant (t's Henfachau, Prys Fechan), [Glyntraean formerly part of Llangollen] (t's Grogeniddon, Hafodgynfor), [Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog] (t. Llywarch), [Llangollen] (t. Dinbren), [Ruabon] (t. Cristionydd Fechan), Llanynys and Derwen, all co. Denb. The following property has been added at various times:. Mont. except p's Hirnant, Llanfyllin, Mochtre, Llandrinio, Pennant, Cemais, [Llanfair Caereinion] (t. Gwenynog) (acquired 1686) and in co. Mer., except Llanymawddwy (acquired 1686) is omitted. Property in Llangynwy (t. Mathrafal) appears only for the years 1690-1. Property in co. Flint is omitted from 1684 onwards. R21/11 (1723) includes 'Dog walks in Hugh Davies Collection'. RA6 (? early 17th cent) contains only property in Shropshire: p's [Llansilin] (t. Sychdyn), [Oswestry] (t's Llanforda, Pentre-gaer, Cynhinion). From RA13 (1702) onwards property in cos Mont. and Mer. is resumed. Collector: Matthew Jones ?1700-15. From R12-R13 (1704-15) onwards the Glascoed and Llanforda Collections are combined with the Plas-y-ward Collection. From 1704 onwards, property in p's [Llandderfel] (t. Betws-y-coed, Nanffreuar), [Llanycil] (t. Streflyn) is added.

Plas-y-ward estate

The estate originally comprised property p's Llanynys (t's Maesmaencymro, Gyffeilliog), Llanfwrog (t. Bodangharad), Ruthin, Llanbedr Dyffryn Clwyd, Bodfari (t. Aberchwiler), Llandyrnog, Llanhychan, Llangwm in commote of Dinmael, the lordship of Llwynydd and Rhisgog, all in co. Denb. In 1697, property in p's Derwen, Llanelidan and Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd, co. Denb., and p. Llandrillo-yn-Edeirnion (t's Garthiaen, Branas Isaf), co. Mer., is added. In 1701, property in p's Penmorfa, Beddgelert, Dolwyddelan, Capel Curig, Penmachno, Llanberis, Dwygyfylchi and Llanfairfechan, co. Caern., is also added. Sir William Williams bought the Glantant estate in 1679, and it appears in the Glascoed collection in 1680. The Plas-y-ward estate is combined with the Glascoed collection, 1704-1715 (R12-R13). From 1712 (R13) property in p. Llanynys (t's Trefechan, Ysgeibion) and [p. Llanrhaeadr-yng-Nghinmeirch] (t. Pentrellech) is added. RA8 (1653) contains property in p. Oswestry (t's Trefonnen, Treflach), Shropshire. R4/8 contains an inventory of the goods and chattels of Edward Thelwall of Plasyward, co. Denb., esq., appraised in Jan. 1677. Chwaen Isaf estate

This is the ancestral estate of the Williamses of Chwaen Isaf, co. Ang., inherited by Sir William Williams (d. 1700). It comprised property in p's Llantrisant, Llanfihangel [Tre'r Beirdd?], Llechylched, Llanfaelog, Trewalchmai, Llanrhuddlad, Llaneilian, Llandrygarn, Llangristiolus, Llandysilio, Penmynydd, Pentraeth, Beaumaris, Llanwenllwyfo, Amlwch and Llan-faes, all in co. Ang. The estate disappears from the rentals after 1692.

Gwydir estate

The Gwydir estate proper did not become part of the Wynnstay estate, but passed to the Dukes of Ancaster through the marriage of Robert, Lord Willoughby of Eresby, duke of Ancaster, and Mary, sole daughter and heiress of Sir Richard Wynn, 4th bart (dec. 1674). However, a rental for 1680 of the Gwydir estate and two rentals for 1671 of Gwydir property in co. Mer. are found amongst the general rentals of the Wynnstay estate. The rentals comprise property in p's [Aber] (t. Y Wig), Betws-y-coed and Llandudno, co. Caern; p's Llanrwst, Llanddoged, Gwytherin, Llanfair Talhaearn, Llaneilian-yn-Rhos, Llansanffraid Glan Conwy, Llanrhaeadr-yng-Nghinmeirch and Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr, co. Glasinfryn and Gwydir estates

The Glasinfryn estate comprised property in p's Llanfechell and [Llangwyllog] (hamlet of Tresgawen), co. Ang, and in p's Conwy (t. Y Gyffin), Treflys, Pwllheli, Clynnog and Llanberis, co. Caern. R8/1 (1678) and R8/6 (1680) contain the Glasinfryn estate only. From 1683 (L1301) it is combined with property which formed part of the Gwydir estate, in p's [Waunfawr formerly Llanbeblig] (t. Treflan), Llanfair-is-gaer, Llandeiniolen, Llanrug and Bangor, and Caernarfon town, all co. Caern, p. Llysfaen in co. Denb., and p. Llanfrothen in co. Mer. From 1691 (R8/9) property in [p. Conway] (t. Y Gyffin) purchased from William Robinson, esq. is added. From 1684 (L1301) to 1737 (R24/6) one property in Ruthin is added. From 1697 (R9/6a) property in co. Ang. is omitted. In 1741 (R26/1) p. Llanfrothen is transferred to the manor of Valle Crucis collection. Maenan lordship and other properties in co's Caern and Denb.

Maenan lordship, co. Caern, and properties in p's Eglwys-bach and Llangernyw, co. Denb., are combined from 1683 (L1301) with property in p's Llansanffraid Glan Conwy and Betws Abergele, co. Denb., and p. Penmachno, co. Caern. Property purchased from William Robinson, esq., in p's Llansanffraid Glan Conwy and Llandrillo-yn-Rhos (t. Eirias) is added in 1691 (R8/9). A property in Wrexham is also added from 1684 (L1301) to 1691 (R8/9). R3/5 (1629), R6/7 (1671), R4/7 (1671) and R4/9 (1680) contain property in Commote of Isaf.
