Register of boys, Liverpool,

A register, 1874 onwards, of boys who attended meetings of the Guild of the Good Shepherd at Liverpool during George Eyre Evans's stay there. The entries are arranged alphabetically by surname, each entry containing biographical information. English. Formerly George Eyre Evans Bequest MS 293.

Neath notes,

A volume of notes etc. relating to Neath, co. Glam., gathered from divers sources by George Eyre Evans in preparation for a lecture to the Neath Antiquarian Society on 16 June 1923. The volume includes: a copy of Poem on Neath Abbey by W. Bowden; information from Edward Lhuyd's Parochialia; post-cards of ancient stones from Neath; notes on Llantwit-iuxta-Neath from works by Sir Stephen R. Glynne, Bart., and the Rev. C. A. H. Green; a subscription form for The History of the Vale of Neath by D. Rhys Phillips; transcripts from the Cringell manuscripts at the National. Library of Wales; sketches of ancient Celtic crosses at Llantwit juxta-Neath and Margam; notes re Neath Abbey; and two letters, 1923, from Glen. A. Taylor and the Rev. T. Mardy a Rees, both of Neath. A small note-book containing a brief description of the school badges of Welshpool County School, St Davids County School, Friars School, Bangor, and Swansea Grammar School. Notes on G. E. J. Powell of Nanteos,

A note-book, with an almanack for 1858, containing information about George Ernest John Powell (1842-1882) of Nanteos. As well as biographical information, the volume mentions the offer made by G. E. J. Powell to present a collection of paintings to Aberystwyth Corporation on the establishment of a public library and museum. English. Formerly George Eyre Evans Bequest MS 315.

Letters re. Welsh Unitarianism,

A volume of letters, transcribed by George Eyre Evans and David Ivon Jones in 1906, entitled 'Letters relating to Welsh Unitarianism 1806-1905'. The original letters, then in the possession of the Rev. Rees Jenkin Jones, M.A., Unitarian minister of Aberdare, are now to be found in NLW MSS 4367-4368. The letters in the volume are arranged chronologically, and there is an alphabetical index of writers at the beginning. Also included in the manuscript are cuttings from The Christian Life, 1909, entitled 'The Kenrick family', a photograph of Rees Jenkin Jones, and several original letters, 1905 and 1923, from Rees Jenkin Jones to George Eyre Evans. Letters of 'Gwilym Marles',

A volume of the letters of the Rev. William Thomas ('Gwilym Marles', 1834-1879) to the Rev. Rees Jenkin Jones, Aberdare, dated 1864-1879, transcribed by George Eyre Evans and [David Ivon Jones]. The original letters appear to have been presented to Cardiff Public Library (see the Annual Report of Cardiff Public Libraries, 1910-11). The volume also includes: a list of contributions to the Llandysul Grammar School Cricket Club, 1872; an article by George Eyre Evans on Llandysul Grammar School reprinted from The Alauda (the school magazine) of 1913; a short paper by the Rev. Talwyn Philips of Bala entitled 'Unitarian ministers as teachers and school masters'; printed items and cuttings re. the 'Gwilym Marles' centenary celebrations at Llwynrhydowen; photographs of 'Gwilym Marles'; holograph letters, 1905-1909, from Rees Jenkin Jones, John D. Lewis, Llandysul, &c.; three holograph letters, 1867-1878, from 'Gwilym Marles', and the remembrance card of Mary Thomas, his wife, who died in 1867; and six letters, 1918-1926, from the Rev. E. O. A collection of miscellaneous letters received by George Eyre Evans from various correspondents, concerning early Presbyterian and Unitarian meeting-houses at Wakefield, Warminster, York, Norton [?co. Radnor], Tenterden, Chowbent (Atherton), Ciliau Aeron, Ditchling, Framlingham, Dorchester, King's Lynn, Wanham, Rochdale, Belper, Boston, Bradford, Chatham, Todmorden, and Topsham. Other items include letters, 1897, relating to the recipient's volume Vestiges of Protestant Dissent . . . (Liverpool, 1897); letters, 1905, from James Phillips of Cloth Hall, St Clears, relating to the possibility of holding Unitarian meetings again at Rhyd-y-parc Chapel; notes on a lecture delivered in 1854 by the Rev. A volume of letters from Philip J. Worsley of Rodney Lodge, Clifton, to George Eyre Evans. English. Formerly George Eyre Evans Bequest MS 365.

David Ivon Jones letters,

A volume of letters, post-cards, photographs, press cuttings &c. from David Ivon Jones to George Eyre Evans. Most of the letters were sent from South Africa and many relate to David Ivon Jones's involvement with the South Africa Labour Party and trade union activities. The last few letters were sent from Nice, Stockholm, Moscow and Yalta, and the volume also contains a few items relating to David Ivon Jones's death at Yalta on 24 May, and his burial at Moscow on 14 June 1924. Aberystwyth Dispensary and Infirmary,

A group of letters relating to the Aberystwyth Dispensary, later known as the Aberystwyth Infirmary. The letters, mainly addressed to Dr. Richard Williams, include correspondence concerning subscriptions to the hospital scheme, as well as items relating to the administration of the establishment. On the background to the establishment of both institutions see D. I. Evans, 'Hospital Services in Aberystwyth before 1948', Ceredigion, vol. 5 (1965), pp. 168-208. English. A group of letters, being correspondence from Clode & Sons, wine merchants, of London, to Charles Morgan of Iron Acton, Gloucestershire, regarding his account with them and including price-lists of wines and spirits. English. Formerly George Eyre Evans Bequest MS 381.

George's Meeting, Colyton,

A volume of miscellaneous papers, 1669-1939, entitled 'Colyton Trust', relating to the Unitarian Meeting-house known as George's Meeting at Colyton in Devon. The items include transcripts of accounts and letters relating to financial matters, 1725-1868; the probate of the will, 16 March 1669/70, of Ralph Seaward of Colyton, carpenter; a licence, 1723, permitting a dissenters' gathering at the residence of John Bussle, cordwainer, in Colyton; photographs of the Great House, Colyton, used as a meeting-house, c.1746; accounts of the trustees of George's Meeting, 1864-1868; an Order in Council, 1882, relating to Colyton churchyard (printed); a schedule of deeds re. Colyton chapel; letters, 1939, to George Eyre Evans relating to the closure of Colyton chapel, as well as other letters, accounts, receipts, &c. English. Formerly George Eyre Evans Bequest MS 383.

George's Meeting register,

A transcript, 1904, in the hand of George Eyre Evans, of the register of George's Meeting, Colyton, for the years 1823-1862, recording births, baptisms and burials. The volume also includes three letters, 1907-1910, from A. J. P. Skinner of Colyton to George Eyre Evans, relating to the present transcript. The original register was presented to the Registrar General at Somerset House in 1904. English. Formerly George Eyre Evans Bequest MS 384.
