Letter from Amir Beg Khan,

Thank you for your letter requesting that in future if the zamindars needed the services of foot soldiers from Calcutta I should write to you in advance. I had already written to Governor Roger Drake that we have an agreement that whenever he wanted to take any action in this area he would write to me first and that he should not send the foot soldiers here on any one else's instructions as they interfere in our administration. It is requested that you also write to the Governor to follow these instructions and that he should come and see us to discuss this. -- Another, contemporary translation of the contents is CR8/1, entry no. 217

Amir Beg Khan.

News report from a harkarah,

Mentions that two messengers sent by Sadr al-Haqq Khan arrived in Deccan where Sahu Raja was. At the same time, Ramnarayan was on a ship bound for Murshidabad, when news came of the killing of Nawab Siraj al-Dawlah [on 2 July 1757]. Sahu Raja set out for Bengal with 30/40 thousand men just as Ramnarayan was nearing to go to Murshidabad.

Letter from Amir Beg Khan,

Messenger Muhammad Alaf Khan has informed that the districts of Kondalparah and Balramtali for which he is responsible are situated next to Farashdanka. Previously, workers from here had interfered in the administration of the above districts and they had to withdraw after they received a letter from you. As he is employed by you for a long time and is a faithful employee I will be grateful if you could write another letter asking them to stop this interference.

Amir Beg Khan.

Letter from Ram Narayan,

I have heard that you have recently arrived back at Calcutta. As I have not heard from you for some time I am anxious to know about your wellbeing. Please write to me as soon as possible.

Letter from Bibi Shah Khanum,

Thank you very much for your reply asking me to send the cloth you had asked for as soon as possible. This will be sent to you along with its invoice soon. Meanwhile, I was pleased to know from Nawab Nasir al-Mulk Bahadur that you are keeping well.

Bibi Shah Khanum.

Letter from Asaduzzaman,

Thank you very much for your letter asking me to round up all French personnel in my territory, arrest them and then send them to you before they manage to escape. In fact they had all left my territory before your letter arrived. I was aware of your concern about their presence here but my staff would not let me take any action against them as they feel threatened sometimes by English and sometimes by the Dutch. As for as your request that I should cut off all means of supply to the French and not let them employ any porters to carry their goods is concerned, I will need a force of a thousand or two thousand men to implement this scheme. As I do not have such a force to spare, I will be grateful if you could help in this respect. -- Another, contemporary translation of the contents is CR8/1, entry no. 247.

Asaduzzaman Muhammad.

Letter from Ram Singh,

Thank you very much for your letter inviting me to come and see you. In fact, before I received your letter I was myself intending to come and see you but when I mentioned my intentions to Khvajah Abd al-Hadi Khan Sahib who was visiting Burdwan he persuaded me not to go un-invited. I will be grateful if you could arrange to send five guards and a permit to travel for me so that I could pay my respect to you without delay and plead to you personally for the release of my brother Narayan Singh and my son Mathra Mall. -- Another, contemporary translation of the contents is CR8/1, entry no. 253.

Letter from Clive to Durlabhram,$f[1757x1759] /$cClive, Robert Clive, Baron, 1725-1774.

Formerly Surajah Doulah took from Omichund some money and goods, but on application being made he ordered them all to be returned, which Omichund had received except a small quantity of goods and some money, you must remember this well. Omichund was receiving the balance[sic] when Mr Watts sent him down about Mir Jaffer's business and told him when that was finished Mir Jaffar would certainly pay him the balance. Miir Jaffar is now Nubab and you ask his Diwan please therefore to inform him of this and request him to pay the balance in money. Thus you will much oblige me.

Letter from Debi Charan,$f[1757x1759] /$cDebi Charan, servant of Durlabhram.

Babu Ram, Amlahdar of parganah Khandar Machal, in the State of Munni Lal, had complained to the Company that my elder brother, Kali Charan owed them five thousand rupees. As a result the company officers have taken him into custody for non-payment of this amount. This is nothing but fabrication. I am a poor man and cannot afford this large sum. As I am an obedient servant of the company I will be grateful if you could write to Mr Hastings that he may be released.

I hope you will be able to reply to them soon after reading their letters
