An early seventeenth century manuscript, fragile, written c. 1611-1621 and possibly earlier by Roger Williams, clerk, rector of the parish of St. Nicholas, co. Glamorgan [the scribe of parts of Llanstephan MS 41] and containing pedigrees, Welsh poetry, medical and veterinary recipes, etc. Roger Williams [TLLM, 41n, 213-4] was the son of Roger William of Prisk [in the parish of Llanddunwyd (Welsh St. Donats)] and he married Elinor Rees [daughter of Rhys Amheurug (Rees Merrick)]: his pedigree is on p. 27 of this manuscript (cf. Llanstephan MS 41, p. 173). A folio or folios are wanting at the beginning and someone has written the words 'The Isue [sic] of Gruffydd fawr [De Radyr]' opposite the first page (p. 4). An account of proceedings against [ ] Wrainham for presenting to the King a book called 'Revewe and Revivor of the Report of the Mr. of Rolls Phillips and the decree of my lord Chancellor', c. 1610; veterinary and medical recipes; and a tract entitled 'Shorte Articles by way of Instruccon concerninge the Dutye Office and Jurisdiction of the High Admirall of England collected out of the Lettres Pattents of that Office'.

A collection of awdlau and cywyddau, including a substantial section of poems ascribed to Guto'r Glyn (pp. 151-300) and Dafydd ap Gwilym (pp. 355-379). The manuscript also includes a copy of Chaucer's Treatise on the Astrolabe (pp. 87-100). Gwenogryn Evans states that pp. 1-22, 335-406 and 410-33 are written in an archaic style in the early part of the seventeenth century, while pp. 23-85, 101-33 and 151-303 belong to the last quarter of the sixteenth century. Other parts of the manuscript are later additions, except the vellum leaf (pp. 305-6).

A miscellaneous collection of pedigrees made by Thomas Langford between 1611 and 1625, partly out of the collections of other Welsh genealogists. There are several tables of the Langford family, with the remainder of the volume containing pedigrees from all parts of Wales and from border counties, particularly Cheshire and Shropshire.
There are also some copies of documents mainly relating to Montgomeryshire, including a list of sheriffs, a rental of the manor of Llanerchydol, 1559 (f. 168), etc. In addition to pedigrees, there are some notes of the arms of English families (ff. 156-162), and of the creations of noblemen from Edward the Confessor to Elizabeth (ff. 144 verso-155 verso). The Hokleton pedigree (ff. 45 verso-46), was written by Richard Broughton of Oulbry.

Title deeds of Tythin Bron Henllys, Tythin Pen y Bont and Tythin Pen y Brin Mawr in the township of Henllys and parish of Llanfihangel Genau’r-glyn, comprising a mortgage by Evan Gwyn Griffith and Mauld his wife, with associated documents, 1608, followed by a quitclaim to to Sir Richard Pryse of Gogerddan, 1625.

   Notice of a writ of scire facias directed to him concerning a fine levied, 9 July 1548, between Richard ap Moris ap Rees and Owen ap John Owen, plaintiffs, and John ap Owen ap Meirick and Margery, his wife, defendants, upon lands in Trelowarch, Trevirion and Llanvawr, now objected to by Thomas Glynn, esquire.

An imperfect copy, lacking title-page, and all following f. cxxxvi, of an unidentified early sixteenth-century printed edition of the Latin Decretales of Gregory IX. The text ends at the beginning of c. 1, X, De fideiussoribus, III, 22. Preceding the Decretales are sixteen originally-blank paper leaves, and a vellum leaf containing a fragment of a medieval Latin text, in a XIII cent. hand, originally used as a front pastedown, now raised and left as a fly-leaf. The covers bear blind-tooled rolled decorations of Oldham's 'heads in medallions' type, similar to his HM. h (29), identified as a London production of 1533-44; see further J.B. Oldham, English Blind-Stamped Bindings (Cambridge, 1952), 54 & plate L.
The volume was owned at the end of the sixteenth or beginning of the seventeenth centuries by 'Lewis Johnes', who added his name on ff. 16, xlvv, xlvi and inside rear cover. He also added pen trials and Welsh poetry to the sixteen preliminary blank leaves. The poems include an early cywydd attributed to Siôn Tudur (c. 1522-1602) (ff. 9 verso-10), a text seemingly first attested in Cardiff MS 2.114 of 1564-5, see Enid Roberts, Gwaith Siôn Tudur (Caerdydd, 1980) I, 672; an incomplete cywydd, attributed elsewhere to Gruffudd ab Ieuan ap Llywelyn Fychan (c. 1485-1553) (f. 12); and a series of 37 englynion of gnomic type, each beginning with 'Eira mynydd ...' (ff. 5 verso-9). These englynion are not among those appearing in Oxford Jesus College MS 111 (Llyfr Coch Hergest), col. 1028-9 (see Kenneth Jackson, Early Welsh Gnomic Poems, Cardiff, 1935, 22-6), and their form and contents suggest that they are later-dating imitations of the genre, seemingly unattested. The name of Lewis Johnes (or Jones), again in a late sixteenth- or early seventeenth-century hand, also appears in the first part of NLW MS 5283B (pp. 7, 98, 119, 126, 161, 166 and 170), a collection of cywyddau, mostly written in his hand, which begins with the above-mentioned poem attributed to Siôn Tudur. Johnes' legal connection, exemplified by his ownership of the Decretales, may also be reflected in the legal script which he adopts when writing his name on pp. 98 & 126 of this manuscript, a volume which also bears the names of Evan Johnes (p. 166), Hughe Johnes (p. 55) and Harry Jones (pp. 13, 43, 88, 140), possibly kinsmen.

Probate of the will of Dame Ellin Eure [nee Maurice] of Porkington, containing several charitable bequests and the devise of six small dwellings in Willow Street, Oswestry, to the bailiffs and burgesses of Oswestry for housing the poor, 1626.

An autograph presentation copy of a treatise by Abraham Darcie of Geneva (fl. 1623-35), being an abridged version of his English translation of Pierre du Moulin, Héraclite; ou, de la vanité et misère de la vie humaine (dernière édition, Genève, 1624), published in full as Heraclitus; or, Meditations upon the Misery of Mankinde and the Vanitie of Humane Life (London, 1624, STC 7326).
The present copy is dedicated to 'Helen Evers', sc. Lady Elin Eure (née Maurice) of Clenennau and Brogyntyn (1578-1626), who was first married to Sir John Owen of Bodsilin (d. 1611/12), secretary to Sir Francis Walsingham (see also Brogyntyn MS II.22), and secondly to Sir Francis Eure (d. 1621), chief justice of the North Wales circuit. The printed editions of the translation are dedicated to John Egerton, 2nd earl of Bridgewater, Henry Vere, 18th earl of Oxford, and others, and Darcie may have come into contact with Elin Eure through his acquaintance with families of the English nobility.
