An early nineteenth century manuscript in the hand of, and consisting largely of poetry by, David Thomas ('Dafydd Ddu Eryri'). Most of the poems have been published in Corph y Gaingc (Dolgellau, 1810). The volume also contains extracts from printed works; 'Yr Angel gwarchweidwol. Cân newydd Gorph. 27 1802'; a poem entitled 'My Mother. Written in America and published in the Chester Chronicle June 14 1805'; 'Catechism Byr'; memoranda and extracts dealing with the history of Protestantism (e.g. 'Erthyglau Lambeth', 'Erthyglau Cymmanfa Dort ... 1618', 'Calvin', 'Bacsteriaeth', 'Arminiaeth', etc.); poetry by Gruffudd Wiliam ('Gutyn Peris'), 1807; 'Gweddillion Englynion yr Eos, a luniwyd yn yr Eisteddfod Ynghaerwys 1567 a gopiwyd allan o lyfr y Bardd Côch o Fon Mai 1807'; fragmentary notes and extracts (e.g. 'Y Saith Gelfyddyd (7 Rural Arts)', 'Y Saith Gysgadur', 'Enwau y Gwyr a gyfansoddasant y llyfr a elwir Gweddi Gyffredin Mai B.A. 1549', 'A Critique on the third Book of Paradise Lost', etc.); 'Emyn, allan o'r Saesoneg'; etc. Appended to one of the poems, 'Cwyn yr Henwr methiant', is the following note; 'Sepr. 7th 1805. Sent copies of the above to Rev. Mr. Williams Treffos, Morys Williams Plas Goronwy near Red Wharf and Thomas Jones King's head, Amlwch. Also to Gutyn Peris & Wm Jones Pentir & Dafydd Owen of Gaerwen, Llanystumdwy ... Sent copies of Fy Anwyl Fam, to the said persons'.

A notebook in the autograph of J. H. Davies described as containing 'Barddoniaeth amryw ond yn benaf David Charles ieuaf Caerfyrddin yr hwn a anwyd 1802 [sic] ac a fu farw 1880' transcribed from printed sources, e.g. Addysgydd 1823. Loose at the beginning is a letter, 1896, from David. R. Charles, Hoylake to J. H. Davies enclosing a transcript of a Welsh translation by D[avid] C[harles], the writer's father, 1853, of the hymn 'Abide with me' ('Trig gyda mi, f'Arglwydd mae n hwyrhau').

A notebook containing 'englynion' and a few 'penillion' by, and in the hand of, [David Evans, Llanrwst]. Among the titles are 'Englynion i Bont Menai', 'I Gwilym Salsbri', and 'I Gwilym Canoldref'.

An imperfect manuscript of the late seventeenth century in the hand of Huw Morys, with copious additions in a number of early eighteenth century hands. It consists largely of 'cywyddau', 'carolau', 'cerddi' and 'dyrïau' by Huw Morys himself, with a few poems in both strict and free metres by Owen Gwynedd, Humphrey Owen, Simwnt Vychan, William Miltwn [Midleton, Myddelton], Doctor Sion Kent, Roger Kyffin, Sion Sgrufen and John Davies ('of Rhiwlas'), and anonymous poems. The volume is lettered 'Barddoniaeth Huw Morys'.

A collection of 'cerddi', 'carolau', 'penillion', etc. in free metres by Hugh Moris and Rogiar Jones and numerous anonymous poems and scraps of verse. Also included are a rental of chief rents of Cynlleth yr Iarll and a rental of the tithe of Llangadwalader, Denbighshire, both undated, and a medical recipe. A note by Dafydd Marpole in Cwrtmawr MS 225, p. 86 attributes the present manuscript to the last quarter of the seventeenth century. Among later additions to the volume are holograph 'englynion' by Joseph Marpole ('yn llegys'), 1779. The spine is lettered 'Gwaith H. Morys a Roger Jones'.

A badly mutilated manuscript of the early eighteenth century containing 'carolau', etc., and a 'cywydd' by Huw Morris.

A collection of 'cerddi', 'carolau', etc. by Hugh Morris, together with a 'cerdd' by Huw Jones, Llangwm, a 'cerdd' by the Reverend Walter Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'], anonymous 'englynion, 'carolau' and some financial accounts, 1805 and undated. The volume is in the hand of Huw Jones, Llangwm, with a few later additions by Elizabeth Maurice and by Mary Richards, Darowen. It belonged to Thomas Powel, 1804, and Martha Powel, 1805, and also bears the names of Henry Powel, 1756, John Jones, carpenter, Pentregayr [Oswestry] and Martha Edwards.

A mid-eighteenth century collection of 'cerddi', 'ymddiddanion', etc. by H[uw] M[orys], together with a few poems by Thomas Edwards ['Twm o'r Nant'], Dav[id] Shadrach, David Thomas ('o sir Garen[ar]fon') Thos. Jones (Maes y Cernddi 'in Cowny' [sic]), and anonymous poems, farm accounts and memoranda, 1773-6, and a veterinary recipe. The volume is written in three main hands, of which the third is that of Dav[id] Shadrach.

A manuscript of the second quarter of the eighteenth century containing 'carolau', 'cerddi', 'Ymddiddanion' and 'dyrïau' by Huw Morris, with a number of poems by Ellis Cadwalader, Edward Davies ('o Rhiwlas'), Evan Vaughan ('o Gastellmoch'), Cadwalad[r] ap Robert, Moris Rhobert ('o sir feirionydd'), Thomas Davies ('o sir Drefaldwyn'), Arthur Jones, Robert Cadwalad[r] ('o Blwy Pennant'), Richd. Thomas D'd ('o Sir Fon'), Mathew Owen, Thomas Robert ('o Lyn Ceiriog'), Richard Foulkes? and John Edwards, and anonymous poems; a 'cywydd' and 'englynion' by Rich[ard] Abram, Moris ap Evan ap David, Hugh Morrys, Edward Morris ('or Perthi Llwidion'), Richard [Davies] ('Esgob dewi') and Ragiar [sic] Kyffin; English verses by John Davies and John Hughes, and anonymous poems; an account, 1736, of wages paid the workmen for raising a fence upon [the river] Ceiriog 'under pentre gwyn a Tenem[en]t of the Hond. John Myddelton Esq. [of Chirk Castle]', together with a copy of a covering letter to John Myddelton from Richd. Foulkes; ... L[l]ythur y mae yr gair amdano mai Du[w] ... ai ysgrifenodd ai law i hun y rhwn a gaed ta[n] gareg mewn Tref ai henw Mae Kwmbe ...'; and entries of birth and baptism, 1712-32/3 [at Llansilin] of the children of Richard Foulks [of Rhiwlas] and Jane Griffith, his wife. Bound in at the end of the volume is an original power of attorney, 1674, of Oliver Thomas of Shewsbury [sic], Salop, yeoman, authorising his brother Thomas Rees of Llanymowthwey, Montgomeryshire, yeoman, to sue or to compound persons subscribed for specified debts (backed for the purpose of repairing by a printed prospectus of Robert Davies ('Bardd Nantglyn'): [Diliau Barddas, Dinbych, 1827]). The manuscript is written in several hands, among them that of Richard Foulks.

A volume containing holograph poetry by Evan Evans ('Ieuan Glan Geirionydd') written about 1820 and sent for correction to a mentor bearing the initials 'G. W.' [Griffith Williams ('Gutyn Peris')], who has made his amendments and critical remarks in pencil. The titles are 'Awdl ... er Coffadwriaeth am y Diweddar ... Charlotte Augusta, Merch Tywysog Cymru ... ', 'Awdl ... yn goffadwriaeth am Y Parchedig Thomas Charles B.A. o'r Bala ... ', and '[Cywydd] y Bedd'. W. J. Roberts ('G[wilym] Cowlyd') has testified (p. 46) that the contents are in the 'undoubted handwriting of 'Ieuan Glan Geirionydd''.

A volume containing copies (?for publication) of two compositions in strict metres by Evan David ('Ieuan Myfyr Uwch Celli'), Gwernytaraw, Llangrallo, Glamorgan, being an 'awdl' entitled 'Cwymp Goliath Gawr yn yr ornest a fu rhyngddo a Dafydd mab Iesse, wedi hyny, Dafydd Brenin Israel', which was awarded the first prize at Merthyr [Tudful] Eisteddfod, 1825 (printed in Awenyddion Morganwg (Merthyr Tudful [1826]), and 'Marwnad o Goffadwriaeth am y diweddar Fardd Mr William Moses neu Gwilym Tew o Lan Taf, yr hwn a fu farw ar y 30ed o Dachwedd 1824, yn 82 oed', which was adjudged the second best at the same eisteddfod.

Five uniformly bound notebooks numbered 1-5 containing a collection made by John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') of the poetical works of Owen Gruffydd, Llanystumdwy (d. 1730), transcribed from Peniarth MS 124 (see 502 and 505), NLW MS 799 and other sources (?NLW MSS 18 and 11816, etc.), together with some printed items and (in 503) a few 'englynion' by William Elias. The lists of contents at the beginning of 503 appear to relate to Cwrtmawr MS 467 and NLW MS 799 respectively.

Ynghyd A Rhai Pennillion o Goffadwriaeth Jane Williams, o Gaer-Wen, Ymhlwyf Penbre ... (Caerfyrddin, n.d.); Marwnad Am y Parchedig Daniel Rowlands, Yr Hwn a Fu Farw Hydref 23, 1790 ... (Caerfyrddin, n.d.) (with collations by J. H. Davies); and Marwnad; Neu Goffadwriaeth o Farwolaeth y Parchedig Mr. Peter Williams ... Gan' D. The titles include '[Awdl] i annerch Griffith Lewis o'r Ty-bach y mhlwyf y Cemmaes Medi 7fed 1821'; 'Englyn L. J. O'r Blue bell Machynlleth'; 'Cerdd Newydd o fawl i Mr. Edward Lloyd o'r Ty'n-twll y mhlwyf Llanfyllin Pregethwr Cynorthwyol gyda Wesleyans ... Ebrill 4ydd 1821'; 'Englyn i Arweinydd Robert Davies o Nantglyn' [i.e., Arweinydd i'r anllythyrenog ..., 4th ed., Dinbych, 1820]; 'Hymn Newydd ... The old Poets Owen Trefaldwyn Morris o fon &c used to stay with him'.

A composite volume almost entirely in the hand of the Reverend Robert Williams (1810-81), Rhydycroesau, near Oswestry. It contains a list of contents and a complete transcript of Peniarth MS 152 ('cywyddau' and 'awdlau' by Gutto'r Glynn, etc.), completed at Rhydycroesau, 21 December 1870; a transcript from Brogyntyn MS 2, with an English translation, of a 'cywydd' by Tudur Penllyn transcribed 2 February 1871; two copies of a 'cywydd' by Sion Kain transcribed from Peniarth MS [116], 14 November 1876, with relevant marginal pedigrees, poetry in strict and free metres by Walter Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'] from 'Cydymeth Ifiengtid; sef Cerddi Cowyddau, ag Englynion tra dewisol na buant yn Argraffedig yr rioed hyd eitha fy ngwibodheth, sef Gwaith amriw rai o brydyddion cymru wedi gasglu gan Dafydd Evans, Llanfihangel, 1785'; 'Cywyddau Cywilyddus o [ffug-]waith Gweyrful Mechain', a 'cywydd' by Tydur Penllyn and 'englynion' by Iorwerth Vynglwyd, from 'Llyfr Hir Llywarch Reynolds' (NLW MS 970) and Llanstephan MS 35; and an incomplete list of contents of Cwrtmawr MS 242. The spine is lettered 'Gwaith Gutto'r Glyn'.

A notebook in the hand of David Evans, Llanrwst containing 'Y Llinell Gyntaf o bob Cerdd Cywydd a charol sydd yn yr hen Almanaciau ynghyd a henwau yr Awdwyr', i.e. a chronological list of first lines of poetry in strict and free metres published in Welsh almanacs from 1686 to 1786. The free metre poetry, 'carolau' and 'cerddi' are arranged separately under each author.

An imperfect volume containing 'cywyddau', etc. by Thomas Prys, Robt. Lewis, Iolo Goch, Gutto or Glynn, Richard Kynwal, Robt ap Rees Wynn ('o Arianog'), Rowland Vychan, Richard Kynfol, Y Prydydd Hael, Evan Deulwyn, Doctor Sion Kent, Edward Mayelor, D'd ap Gwilim, Tudur Aled, Risiart Gele, Sion Tudur, Simwnt Vychan, Ievan Gethin ap Ie'nn ap Lleision, Evan Lloyd brydydd, Madog Benfras, Howel Gethin, Llowdden, Sion Phillip, Robt. Clidro, Sion Brwynog, Dafydd ap Rys ap Evenni?, D'd ap Edmund, Gruffydd Grvg, Mredydd ap Rees, William Llyn, and Rees Wynne, and anonymous poems; and poems in free metres by Rydderch Roberts and Ifan Llwyd Sieffrey. Later additions include a few medical recipes and copious marginal arithmetical calculations. The text, according to a note by J. H. Davies on the fly-leaf, was used by the writer of NLW MS 717, and the manuscript in fact bears an example of his hand. The spine is lettered 'Poetry'.
