Letters to Sara John

The file comprises transcripts of extracts from letters written by Augustus John to his granddaughter Sara John, [1959]-1961, discussing his painting of her. The original letters were purchased by NLW in January 2004 (NLW MS 23922D, ff. 12-25).

Letters to Scott Macfie

The file comprises photocopies of letters, [1907]-1912, from Augustus John to Scott Macfie, secretary and editor of the Journal of the Gypsy Lore Society, and from the latter to the artist, [1910]-[1912], together with a photocopy of Augustus John's article 'Russian gypsies at Marseilles and Milan' and 'The songs of Fabian de Castro, El Gypatano', Journal of the Gypsy Lore Society. Also included are extracts of a letter, 1914, from Augustus John to Scott Macfie.

The file comprises photocopies of letters, [1946]-[1959], including Augustus John's tribute to Lady Matthew Smith [née Gwen Salmond], January 1958, together with photocopies of letters, [1941]-[1958], from Vivien White to Sir Matthew Smith and a letter from 'Dodo', [1941x1961].

Also included is a list of its Augustus John holdings.
