A notebook in the hand of J. H. Davies containing an alphabetical index of first lines of poetry by Huw Morys published in W[alter] D[avies] ['Gwallter Mechain'], Eos Ceiriog (Wrexham, 1823), with a few subsequent additions from Cwrtmawr MSS 222, 224 and from Carolau a Dyriau Duwiol ([Shrewsbury] 1696).

A manuscript in the hand of Lewis Morris ('Llewelyn Ddu o Fôn; 1701-65) based on a volume entitled 'Mysteria Kabalae Bardicae' and on other sources quoted by the scribe. There are a few entries by Peter Bailey Williams (1821), and also by St Geo[rge] Armstrong Williams, who has included a short biography of Lewis Morris.

A volume of poetry, chiefly in strict metre, written largely in the autograph of Owen Gruffydd (?1638-1730) between 1677 and 1692. Most of the poems are by Owen Gruffydd, but the following poets are also represented: Robin Ddu, Dafydd Gorllech, John Roger, Sion Phylip, Sypyn Cyfeiliog, Dafydd ap Gwilym, William Phylip, Gyttyn Owain ('medd rhai' 'Meredydd ap Rhys' in another hand), Ifan Tew Prydydd, Huw ab Iva[n], Bedo Brwynllysg, Edmwnt Prys, Edward Morys, Matthew Owen and Hugh Morys. There is a list of contents at the beginning and the poems have been correspondingly numbered. There are 'penillion' by William Elias on p. 309b. John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') has supplied a lacuna in the manuscript from Peniarth MS 124. Almost all the 'cywyddau' in this manuscript, but not the 'englynion' and the poems in free metre, are to be found also in Peniarth MS 124, which is later in date than the present manuscript and written in a different hand. The pages have been numbered by Dr J. Gwenogvryn Evans and his report on the manuscript is in J. Gwenogvryn Evans MS 70a (under 'M[yrddin] F[ardd] 5'). If the information given on pp. 1 and 50 is correct, Owen Gruffydd was born in 1638. A note at the end (p. 238) of his elegy to Sir Roger Mostyn (d. 1690) states that the poet received fifty shillings for the 'cywydd'. There is a folio missing after p. 36 and another is wanting before p. 53.

A volume of papers of David Jones ('Dewi Fardd'; 1708?-85), Trefriw, of which many are in his own hand. They comprise 'Gofuned Llythyr Dewi Fardd at ei Etholedig Gyfeillion'; a letter from David Jones to his friends ('Frodur a Chwiorydd yn ol y Cnawd'), 1751/2 (the writer's association with Methodism) (published in Cymru, 1907, pp. 185-6) (together with verses [?on 'Breuddwyd Gwion']; poetry by Rhys Goch o Ryri, Richiart Parry, T[homas] E[dwards] ('Twm o'r Nant') Humphrey William, Lloyd Ragad, Dafydd Jones (Dafydd Sion Dafydd), Morys Dwyfech, Edmund Price 'Arch diagon', and Ellis Robert, and anonymous 'carolau' and 'cerddi'; an extract from a treatise on herbs; letters to David Jones from Tho[ma]s Edwards ['Twm o'r Nant'], Pen isa'r dre [Denbigh], 1766 (a parcel for the recipient and the enclosed writing), William Sion 'o fyrun sauth ymlwy maun twrog' [Maentwrog] undated (the delivery of books to Owen Dafydd 'o faun twrog'), Dafydd Ellis, Ty du, 1766 (the sale of books on behalf of the recipient), Owen Roberts, 1778 (the publication of an interlude), Roger Thomley, Flint, 1746 (enclosing 'englynion', a desire to visit the recipient), Hugh Evans, Caernarfon, 1768 (the receipt of a book of 'cywyddau', subscriptions towards the printing of Blodeugerdd [Cymry] and Drych y Cymro), and Richd. Much of the contents of the manuscript was transcribed by David Evans, Llanrwst in Cwrtmawr MS 117.

A composite volume belonging to John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') containing notes and press cuttings concerning heraldry, etc. At the beginning in another hand are accounts of 'Gibbet Hill' [Llanfair Caereinion] subscribed 'Mrs B- December 12. 59', 'Sion y Clochydd' and 'Bryn Llawenydd'. The press cuttings include a series of articles on 'Pymtheg Llwyth Gwynedd' by [the Reverend Hugh Parry] 'Cefni'. There are one or two loose items, including a sheet in an eighteenth century hand containing 'Naw gradd Carrennydd' and two 'englynion', etc., 'Awgrym fûd' (a deaf and dumb alphabet), and 'Llyma y pum achos sydd i gadw acha[u].'

Miscellaneous Welsh poetry by William Roberts ('Clochydd Llannor'), Robert Parry ('Robin Ddu Eryri'), John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') and others; and a report on the Sunday schools of Penygroes.

A manuscript volume (46 pp.) containing 'cerddi', etc., some religious, (?)in the autograph of Evan Thomas, 1756-7. The poets represented are Richart Parry, Dafydd Johns, Huwga or Hugha [sic] Morus, Morris Roberts o'r Balla [sic]', Matthew Owen, Robert Llwyd, Morgan Lloyd, Ellis Robertts, Evan Thomas (?Evan Thomas penygaur) and Owen Criffudd [sic]. There are also some 'englynion', etc. in the margins: one such entry (p. 34) is described as being 'o Lyfr Robt Thomas o Landrillo. Evan Thos. ai scrifennodd 1766'. The orthography is rather uncertain throughout. On the cover is written '10. Cerddi. &c.' (cf. NLW MS 2281B).

A notebook with clasp used as a commonplace-book by John Peter ('Ioan Pedr') c. 1851-56. The contents include 'englynion' headed 'Cyngor Goronwy Owain i Ellis y Cowper', verses entitled 'L'antienne Nationale' with a Welsh translation, the Lord's Prayer written in several languages, items of verse by [Thomas Edwards] 'Twm o'r Nant', [Walter Davies] 'Gwallter Mechain', [Elis Roberts] Ellis Cowper [sic], [Owen Griffith] Y. Meirion, Huw Morys, Glyn Ceiriog and R. Davis, Nantglyn 'y teiliwr', etc., 'Traddiad [sic] o hanes Gwr Caer-Gai Llanuwchlyn', translations into Welsh of extracts from Rousseau, Le Sage, Pascal, Descartes, etc., observations entitled 'Taith "o'm hamgylch fy hunan", vocabularies and grammatical notes.

A composite volume from the collection of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') written in several hands of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and comprising ten main sections: (I) The first section (pp. 1-121 and some unnumbered items) contains poetry by Tomas Edwards Nant, S[ion] Owen, [David Owen] 'Dewi Wyn Eifion' [sic] and (mainly) Robert Williams ('Robert ap Gwilym Ddu'), some possibly in his autograph. Other items include a list of books ('Catalek of all ye books that I Have'), some accounts headed 'Cost Capel garn talwyd' and 'heb Daly am Capel garn', observations entitled 'Lwybr Dyn neu Ysdyriaethau ar bedair rhan oes Dyn' by Robert Williams, a letter, 1845, from Ellis Owen, Cefn y Meusydd, to Mr Robert Williams, Bard, Bettws fawr, Llanystumdwy, containing verses by Robert ab Gwilym Ddu entitled 'Pererindod o'r Aipht i Ganaan; and a list of poems by ['Robert ap Gwilym Ddu']. There are also some press cuttings and other additions by John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'). (Ii) A memoir of David Owen ('Dewi Wyn o Eifion') by and in the autograph of John Thomas ('Siôn Wyn o Eifion'). (Iii) Miscellaneous items including 'Pymtheg Llwyth Gwynedd', poetry by Huw Llwyd Cynfal, Dafydd ap Sion and y Parchedig Mr Goronwy Owen o Fôn, and draft of a letter from 'Dyngarydd' [?David Owen ('Dewi Wyn o Eifion') ] to Mr Gomer' [? for Seren Gomer ], and 'A Memorandum Book' in the autograph of John Thomas ('Siôn Wyn o Eifion') containing notes on natural history, etc. in English transcribed from various printed sources. (Iv) Notes in Welsh in the autograph of John Thomas ('Siôn Wyn o Eifion') on theological subjects including extracts from 'Patrick's Places' i.e. the work of Patrick Hamilton, followed by short accounts of Phoenicia, Palestine, Assyria, Babylon, etc. (V) An incomplete poem entitled 'Carol Plygain am Bwrcas Crist tros eu [sic] Ddyweddi ...... (Vi) Two items in the autograph of John Thomas ('Siôn Wyn o Eifion') entitled 'Cyfrifiad byr am amryw o enwau neu Sectau a ymddangosasant yn y byd' (? incomplete) and 'Ateb i rai holiadau, mewn Llythyr oddi wrth yr Ysgrifennydd at ei ewythr John Roberts', which last item includes observations by Michael Roberts on one of the questions. (Vii) This section consists of sixteen pages and one loose folio. The first fourteen pages are in the autograph of William Elias, c. 1731-44, and contain poetry by Evan ap Llywelyn Vychan (beginning wanting), D. Parry, William Elias, J. Rhydderch, Owen Griffiths and D[afydd] N[anmor]. The next two pages contain verses in English by Gr: Lloyd and the loose folio contains 'englynion', one by Moris ap Evan ap Dafydd ['Morus Dwyfech']. A note at the foot of p. 9 reads 'Oed ein harglwydd, pan dorwyd, y ffordd y mynydd Bwlch Derwin gynta, 1739, y rhan isa, ai gorphen: Mehefin 18: 1740: Wm Ellias, a Griffith Davidd o fodychen, overseers', and there is a recipe for making ink on p. 10. (Viii) 'Englynion' by Edward Charles and a number of Welsh hymns (author's name not given). (Ix) This section is in the autograph of John Roberts [?'Siôn Lleyn'], 1767, and contains poetry by Roger Thomley, Michel Prichiard, Sion Thomas Bod-edern, Gwen Arthur, William Elias, Owen Griffith, John Philip, John Roberts, Hugh Roberts, Thomas Jones, Rich[ar]d Parry niwbwrch, ? W. Ell... and John Rogar [sic]. (X) Veterinary and other recipes, mainly in Welsh.

A composite volume comprising two notebooks originally used by the Reverend Thomas Richards (1754-1837) for personal and family memoranda and accounts (mainly 1821-37) of debts, wages paid to female servants, tithes, provisions, payments of interest and repayments of debts. It also includes accounts, 1816-24, between H. L. Eddes Gwynne and the Reverend Thomas Richards relating to Hirnant rents. The volume was subsequently used by Mary Richards, Darowen to record transcripts of letters, mainly between various members of the Richards family but including also letters from R. The volume was begun about the year 1808 and completed in 1849, but the personal memoranda have been continued to 1875. Seven of the 'cywyddau' are said to have been transcribed from 'llyfr maesglase' and one 'englyn' from 'hen lyfyr Cadwaladr David'.

The Auxiliary Society was established on 12 January 1821 and the account book contains rules, lists of officers, particulars of individual subscriptions (and of collections previously made during the period 1816-20), and copies of letters of acknowledgment of annual contributions to the parent Society. The remainder, and by far the greater part, of the volume was subsequently used largely by Mary Richards to record transcripts of 'carolau', 'englynion', 'cywyddau', hymns, etc. by Hugh Jones (Maesglase), W. A volume originally intended as a personal and farming account book, 1830 and undated, but consisting almost entirely of transcripts, largely by Mary Richards, Darowen, of material of family and local interest.
