Opus 43: Piano Concerto No.1

Draft score in pencil, titled 'Opus 43: Piano Concerto No.1'. Included with the manuscript is a typed descriptive and biographical note relating to the works and career of David Harries (undated). Commissioned by the Llandaff Festival, 1977.

Opus 65: Gitanjali Song Offerings: Six Poems of Rabindranath Tagore for Soprano & Chamber Orchestra

Original ink score, dated 1993 and titled 'Opus 65: Gitanjali Song Offerings: Six Poems of Rabindranath Tagore for Soprano & Chamber Orchestra'. The score is in six parts: part 1, 'I am here to sing thee songs'; part 2, 'When thou commandest me to sing'; part 3, 'It is the pang of separation'; part 4, 'Is it beyond thee to be glad?'; part 5, 'I have received my invitation'; and part 6, 'In one salutation to thee'. Commissioned for the Llantilio Crossenny 31st Festival of Music and Drama in association with the Welsh Arts Council.
Dedicated to Rachel and Thomas.

Opus 66: String Quartet No.3

Full original ink score, dated 1993 and titled 'Opus 66: String Quartet No.3'. The score is made up of nine parts: part 1, 'Prologue'; part 2, 'Sonata'; part 3, 'Fugue 1'; part 4, 'Roundelay'; part 5, 'Fugue 2'; part 6, 'Scherzo'; part 7, 'Fugue 3'; part 8, 'Capriccio'; and part 9, 'Epilogue'. Commissioned for the 1993 Lower Machen Festival in association with the Welsh Arts Council, and dedicated to Julia Chapple, Royston Havard and the Lower Machen Festival.

Opus 7: Epithalalium for Two Violins

Draft score in ink and pencil, titled 'Opus 7: Epithalalium for Two Violins' and consisting of three parts: part 1, 'Fanfare and Wedding March' dated 1956; part 2, 'Hymn' dated 7 January 1961; and part 3, 'Dance' dated 11 January 1961. The manuscript also includes a typewritten biographical note (undated).

Opus 10: Canticle for Tenor & Strings

Original ink score with pencil annotations, titled 'Canticle for Tenor and Strings' and arranged into parts for violins 1 and 2, viola, cello, and double bass. The score includes three parts based on Harries' work 'Words by 20th-century Anglo-Welsh Poets': Part 3, 'Lie Still, Sleep Becalmed' by Dylan Thomas, dated 24 July 1957; Part 6, 'In the Grass Gold Rings' by Roland Mathias, dated 10 May 1957; and Part 7, 'There is No Time' by Raymond Garlick, dated 24 January 1961. Parts 1, 2, 4 and 5 are wanting.

Opus 11: Prolegomena: Variations for String Orchestra

Original ink score, dated December 1958-3 September 1959’ and titled 'Opus 11: Prolegomena: Variations for String Orchestra'. The score includes parts for violin 1, violin 2, viola, cello, and bass; and separate scores for the parts of violin 1, violin 2, and viola.

Opus 17: Variations for Clarinet and Piano

Original ink scores with pencilled notes inside the cover and pencil annotations, containing two versions of Opus 17: ‘Variations for Clarinet and Piano’ (dated February-11 April 1963), and 'Variations for Viola (or Clarinet) and Piano’ (undated); and a draft score in pencil, titled ‘Opus 17: Variations for Clarinet & Piano’ (dated 11 April 1963). The manuscript also contains a typed programme for the 99th Weekly College Concert of the University College Wales Department of Music, session 1963-64, held on 11th November 1963. The programme includes David Harries’ 'Opus 17: Variations for Viola and Piano' (1963); and 'Opus 5: Sonatina for Piano' (1955).

Opus 18: Violin Concerto

Facsimile copy of ink score with some pencil annotations, dated 10 May 1963-14 January 1964 and titled 'Opus 18: Violin Concerto'. The score includes parts for 2 flutes, oboe, 2 clarinets, bassoon, 2 horns, 2 trumpets, trombone, timpani, percussion, solo violin, violins 1 & 2, violas, cellos, and basses. The work was used as a testpiece for the International Competition for Violinists, 1966.

Opus 20: Quintet for Piano and Strings

Facsimile copy of ink score for all instrument parts with pencil annotations, dated 25 October 1964 and titled 'Opus 20: Quintet for Piano and Strings'. The file also includes the score written as separate parts for violins 1 and 2, viola, and cello, in ink with pencil annotations. Commissioned for the Aberystwyth Arts Festival, 1964.
