An eighteenth century manuscript consisting of miscellaneous material in the hand of the Reverend Edward Gamage [rector of the parish of St. Athan, co. Glamorgan, 1717-1734] with additions in later eighteenth century hands (see TLLM, tt. 106-07; IM, t. 309; and IMCY, tt. 58-60, 68, 171). In Edward Gamage's own hand are transcripts of Welsh strict- and free-metre poems by Thomas Morgan 'o Dilla garw', Hopkin y Gwaedd 'o Fargam', Rob. Tho[ma]s 'o Sant y Bryd', Thomas Leyshon o'r Prysg', Miles W[illia]m, Thomas W[ilia]m 'o Dregolwyn', Thomas Llewelyn, vicar of Llancarvan, Dafydd Thomas 'o blwyf y Bettws', and Llewelyn ab Iefan, a copy of a letter in Welsh, 23 November 1726, from the said Edward Gamage himself from Sant Athan, to Llewelyn ab Iefan of the parish of Llangrallo [co. Glamorgan], poet, in reply to a request for genealogical information relating to the Stradling family, and, at the reverse end of the volume, 'A Continuation of ye Exposition of ye Church Catechism for ye use of ye Children of ye Parish of Lantwitt Major by E. Gamage, Lecturer and Catechist there', a recipe for a dog bite, and ? sermon notes. Later additions to the volume include transcripts of three stanzas of Welsh verse, one being by Ph'p Morgan b'r Sarnfawr' and one by his daughter Eleanor, miscellaneous English verse some dated 1768, and a few financial items. Four imperfect, printed leaves from a ? seventeenth century edition of metrical psalms with prayers for use in private houses have been bound in at the end of the volume.

Pp. 9-62, 68-73, 76- 90, 107-48, 213-20 and various other pages in the volume contain miscellaneous Welsh word lists frequently, but not invariably, with English definitions and illustrative excerpts from the works of Welsh poets. A composite volume containing transcripts of historical and literary material in the hand of Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg'). Pp. 1 -74 contain one of the two known reputed transcripts by Edward Williams of the supposedly variant version of the medieval Welsh Chronicle of the Princes ('Brut y Tywysogion') which is generally known as 'Brut Aberpergwm' or 'The Gwentian Brut'. The superscription on p. 1 reads 'Llyma Vrut y Tywysogion val y bu Ryfeloedd a gweithredoedd enseiliaid a Dialeddau, a Rhyfeddodau gwedi eu tynnu or hen gofion cadwedig au blyneddu'n Drefnedig gan Garadawc Llancarfan', and, according to a note at the end of the text (p. 74), the present copy was transcribed by Iorwerth ab Iorwerth Gwilym, i.e. Edward Williams, in 1790 from one of the manuscripts of the Reverend Thomas Richards, curate of Llangrallo [co. Glamorgan], who, in turn, had copied the work in 1764 from one of the manuscripts in the possession of George Williams, esq., of Aberpergwm [co. Glamorgan]. This is substantially the text that was published in The Myvyrian Archaiology of Wales . . ., vol. II, 1801, pp. 468-582, and also in Aneurin Owen (ed.): Brut y Tywysogion; the Gwentian Chronicle of Caradoc of Llancarvan . . . (London, 1863), this second publication being accompanied by an English translation. P. 89 is inscribed 'English Translation of Caradoc of Lancarvan's Annals of the Princes of Wales. By Edward Williams. 1807. Rough Copy'. The section now paginated 101-88 contains an English translation of the text found in pp. 1-74. A fragment of a manuscript written by David Ellis, Criccieth, containing a 'cywydd' which he addressed to Rhys Jones o'r Blaenau; 'carolau' on 'Charity Meistres', 'Mawl Merch', 'Gwel'r Adeilad', and 'King's ffarwel'; a 'cywydd' to 'Dafydd Siôn'; a fragment of a bardic grammar; 'marwnadau' - Robert Davies, Llannerch, Lewis Morris (Evan Evans, 'Ieuan Brydydd Hir'), 'rhyw delyniwr' (Simwnt Fychan), and Siôn Rhydderch (incomplete).

A book into which Peter Bailey Williams of Llanrug copied Welsh poetry between 1799 and 1834. It contains 'englynion' by Thomas Anwyl, William Burkinshaw, Cadwaladr Cesail, Syr Rhys Cadwaladr, William Cynwal, Morus Dwyfech, Griffith Edwards [?'Gutyn Padarn'], Rowland Fychan, William Llŷn, Huw Morys, Richard [Rhisiart] Phylip, William Phylip, Edmwnd Prys, Dafydd Thomas, Morgan ap Rhys, Dafydd Llwyd o'r Henblas, Hywel ap Rheinallt, Huw ab Ifan, and others, and 'cywyddau' by Mathew Bromfield, Dafydd ap Maredudd ap Tudur, Dafydd Llwyd ab Llywelyn ap Gruffydd, Guto'r Glyn, Gruffydd Bodwrda, Hywel Dafi, Ieuan Deulwyn, John Griffith, Llanddyfnan, Llawdden, Owain ap Llywelyn Moel, Rhisiart Cynwal, Richard Hughes, Sypyn Cyfeiliog, Tudur Penllyn, and Griffith Williams ('Guttyn Peris'); a large collection of 'penillion telyn'; and a few charms and recipes.

A table of British Chronology from Brutus to Caswallawn in the autograph of John Thomas, Tu hwnt i'r bwlch; an account of a tour from London to Falmouth, 1759; 'Marwnad John Griffith Yswain diweddar o Gefnamwlch' by Ifan ab Risiat alias Ieuan Lleyn, 1794; poems written between 1861 and 1864 by Owen Gethin Jones; and an essay 'Cyfiawnder yn safon cadwedigaeth' submitted for competition at Arwest Glan Geirionydd, undated.

A miscellany of prose and verse lettered 'Pigion' but known as 'Y Gell Gymysg', most of it in the hand of Thomas Evans ('Tomos Glyn Cothi'), minister, poet and author, but with 'Trioedd yr Offeiriad', on pp. 209-14, by and in the autograph of Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg'). Also included are poems by Edward Richard, Ystrad Meurig, William Moses ('neu Gwilim Tew, o Glyn Tâf'), Howel Prichard, Edward Evans, Ton Coch, Lewis Hopkin, William Harr[i], Llwyn-onn, William Davies (alias 'Wm. Dafydd Abercwmyfuwch, Gerllaw Pen y bont ar ogwr'), David Davis, Castell Hywel, Lewis Williams ('y Bardd Bach'), Jonathan Hughes, Huw Mor[y]s, Huw Gruffydd ('Gynt o Lwyn y brain Meirionydd'), John Jenkins ('Sion y Bardd bach Aberteifi'), Rees John, 'Weaver', John Howels, J. Morgans, James Davies ('Iago ap Dewi'), F[fowc] Prys, etc. Daniel Lleufer Thomas has inserted a comprehensive note relating to 'Tomos Glyn Cothi' and to the contents at the beginning of the volume. 'Tomos Glyn Cothi' has included in the volume several transcripts from contemporary journals.

A late eighteenth century manuscript in the hand of John Morris containing 'cerddi' and 'carolau' by Humphrey Jones (Pen y Bont), Walter Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'] (1786, 1790) and [David Jones] ('Dewi Fardd'); two religious verses in English by, respectively, David Thomas ['Dafydd Ddu Eryri'] and Edward Barnes, together with Welsh translations; 'englynion', partly intended as memorial inscriptions, by Jonathan Hughes, John Edwards ('y Prydydd o Lyn Ceiriog'), Edward Barnes, David Thomas, D[avid] Ellis (Amlwch) and John Morris, and a prayer by John Morris. The spine is lettered 'Llyfr J. Morris - I'.

A late eighteenth century manuscript in the hand of John Morris containing a collection of 'carolau' and 'cerddi' by Jonathan Hughes, Llangollen, together with a 'cerdd' and a 'carol' by Daniel Jones, and a carol each by Jo[h]n Edw[ard]s (Glyn Cei[rio]g) and Arthur Jones. All the poems by Jonathan Hughes are included in the author's Bardd a Byrddau (y Mwythig, 1778). At the beginning of the volume is 'Bannau yr llyfyr hwn', being a table of titles and first lines, and the numbers of verses, of each carol. Paste-downs on the inside upper and lower covers contain a note and an 'englyn' by D[afydd] M[orris], Llanfair [Caereinion], 1868, etc.

A carelessly compiled collection of 'cerddi' and 'penillion' written for the most part by David Morris, Llanwddyn during the period 1778-84. The majority of the poems are anonymous but a few are attributed to Hugh Morris, David Morris, Humphrey Jones, Griffith Evans, Thomas Edwards ('Twm o'r Nant') (1783), ?David Owen (Ceuna[n]t Coch) and David Llwyd ('o Gowny'). Also included in the volume are a few miscellaneous entries such as a notice of letting of Tynykiln, parish of Llanvehangel, Montgomeryshire, 1778; undated accounts; signatures of Thomas Jones (Cownu), David Davies ('Y Wevar'), etc.; receipts from David Morris, 1779; etc.

A composite volume made up of fragments of eighteenth century manuscripts containing 'cywyddau', 'awdlau' and englynion' by Dafydd ap Gwilym, Sion Tudyr ('o Wickwar') and Rhys Jones [o'r Blaenau] (holograph), with a few annotations and variants from the manuscripts of D[avid] Johnes [Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd] and [James Davies] 'Iago ap Dewi'; 'cerddi' and 'penillion' by John Owen and Sir Rees Cadwalader, and anonymous poetry. Among the pastedowns is a voucher to the Reverend David Richards from M. Monk, Chester Courant Office in respect of a Cymmrodorion Society [in Powys] advertisement, 1820-3.

(With 321-322C). One of three composite volumes largely in the hand of D. Silvan Evans containing copious transcripts of prose and poetry texts and extracts from several manuscripts in the Llanover collection, e.g. 'Dafydd ab Gwilym', 'Dafydd Ddu o Hiraddug', 'Pennillion diarhebol Iolo Morganwg', 'Pennillion Serch Gwasgar Iolo Morganwg', 'Dyriau Gwasgar', 'Darnau Defnyddion Doethineb Teuluaidd', 'Gwersi Doethineb', 'Gwasgaredd Doethineb', 'Silurian Phrases' 'Cyngor i Feirdd a Dysgedigion Cymru', 'Ffermyddiaeth', 'Arferion Morganwg', 'Trioedd y Llafurwr', 'Tywyddolion', etc. The transcripts of manuscripts at Llanover were made during the period 1880-2 but some annotations by the scribe are dated to 1892. According to a note at the end of the transcript, one transcript by H[ugh[ B[rython] H[ughes] was sent for publication in Yr Haul in 1874 (see Yr Haul, 1874, pp. 427-8). A note on page 406 refers to a transcript made by Thomas Miles ('Gwas Arglwyddes Llanover') for D. Silvan Evans in September 1882. The spine of each volume is lettered 'Manion Cof a Chadw', with the appropriate volume number.

A volume of transcripts of poetry by Dafydd ap Gwilym, together with a few 'englynion' and 'cywyddau' by Wm Morris, G[ruffudd] Grug, Dafydd ap Edmund, Rhys Gôch Glan Ceiriog, Dafydd Nanmor, Iolo Goch, R[obin] Ddu, and some anonymous 'englynion'. The transcripts are taken from UCNW Bangor MS 6. A note by Mary Richards, Darowen on p. 1 ascribes the volume to John William[s], musician ('Cyfansoddwr Tona'), Dolgelley, probably John Williams ('Ioan Rhagfyr') (see Thomas Parry (gol.): Gwaith Dafydd ap Gwilym (Caerdydd, 1952) pp. c1xviii-clxix). At the end of the volume is a table entitled 'Rhannau Monwent Dar-Owen megis y dosparthwyd ag y cyweiriwyd hwynt ar eiriol David Davies vicar yno, gan ddechrau, o barth dwyrain Ty'r Vicar ag felly diwygio oddi amgylch Mai yr 28 1636' (' ... carefully transcribed out of the original by me Lewis Jones Vicar of Darowen' - a Chopiwyd genyf inneu or Terrier Darowen. M. R. Dar[owen]'). Tipped into the volume are a bond, 14 February 1690/1, from David Jones of Cowarch, Merionethshire, gent. to John Thomas Rees of the same, yeoman for the observance of covenants, and a poem in free metre entitled 'Myfyrdod y Parchedig Mr [Roderick] Lewis Periglor Llanbrynmair Uwchben Bedd ei ddiweddar Wraig', 1829. Among a number of items laid on the inside lower cover is Ychydig o gynghorion buddiol i Bobl Ieuainc, Wrth fyned i wasanaeth (Treffynnon, n.d.).

A volume containing manuscript and printed poetry, etc. in strict and free metre belonging mainly to the eighteenth century. The manuscript items, which are written in various hands, include poetry by Taliesyn, John Rhydderch, Edward Samuel, Sion Tudur, John Roger, Ifan William 'or gwulan' [sic], John Cadd'r (?'Ioan ap Cadwaladr ap Ioan or Bala) (holograph), Angharad James, Morus Robert, Robert Humphreys alias Ragad, Robert Lewis, Dafydd ab Gwilym, Michl. Prichard, Dafydd Sion James and Sion Phylip. The printed items consist of broadsides, etc. as follows: 'Cywydd i ofyn gwn i'r Pendefig enwog Wm. Llwyd o Riwedog Ysgr. Jones y gwydd, Mathew Owen, Huw Rober[t]s, John Dafydd, Syr Rhys yr offeiriad (llanfair), Owen Gruffydd, J. Rhydderch, Wm Elias, Edward Moris, Ifan Gruffydd leiaf, G[utto'r] Glyn, Einian ap Gwalchmai, D[afydd] Nanmor, William Phylip, Huw ab Ifan, Edmund Prys, Gruffydd Phylip, [Robert Prichard] 'Robin Raber', Dafydd Owain o'r Gaerwen ('Marwnad Robert Roberts Pregethwr enwog yn mhlith y Methodistiaid ...') and Gronwy Owen, followed by a collection of the poems of the Reverend Mr Gronwy Owen ('Casgliad o waith y Parch. Mr Gronwy Owen, a Alwei ei hun Gronwy Ddu o Fôn'), with items by [Evan Evans] 'Ieuan Brydydd hir', Huw Huws Alias y Bardd Coch o Fôn, Lewis Morys (poetry and a letter) and Rhobert Huws o Benmynydd ('Robin ddu o Fon'). The contents also include some pedigrees (Achau Penyberth, Richard Llwyd o Griciaith, Bach y Saint, Penllech., Wern Penmorfa, Mostyn, Cors-y-Gedol, Castell-march, Cefn-Llanfair, Wern fawr, Penarth. etc.), 'Ychydig o hanesion' ('Am feibion Noa', etc.), miscellaneous notes, weaving patterns etc. The volume is written in several hands: pp. 1-84 are probably in the autograph of John Roberts ('Siôn Lleyn'); pp. 117-124 are in the autograph of Robert Prichard ('Robin 'Raber') and most of the remainder, if the lettering on the spine is correct, could be in the autograph of John Thomas ('Siôn Wyn o Eifion').
