Welsh Folk-Song Society

A group of papers, [1907x1944], consisting of editorial reports and notes, extracts from minutes of meetings, rules and financial statements, relating to the Welsh Folk-Song Society. Most of the papers are in typescript form or in J. Lloyd Williams's hand. A copy of the second part of his report, apparently to the meeting of the Society at Llangollen, [1908], is also included, together with a transcript of a letter, 1907, from Llew Tegid to William Preece.

Llew Tegid, 1851-1928

Publication of Journal, 1940-1943

Correspondence between J. Lloyd Williams and others relating to the publication of the Welsh Folk-Song Society Journal, [?1940]-1943. The correspondents include R. Humphrey Davies, Dora Herbert Jones, Ruth Lewis and W. S. Gwynn Williams. A carbon copy of the editor's report, July 1943, is also included.

Scientific papers

The group consists of the scientific papers of J. Lloyd Williams, reflecting his interest and vocation in the field of botany, comprising correspondence, 1892-1942; diaries, 1871-1920; field notes, 1887-1934; botanical terms, [1890x1940]; and lectures, [1905x1937].

Family letters

Correspondence, 1880-1945, between J. Lloyd Williams and close family members, especially his brothers Bob, Huw (Hugh), Owen, Richard/Dic (Richard Conway Williams) and William (who became an Inspector of Schools). The letters relate mainly to personal and family matters, but some discuss J. Lloyd Williams's memoirs, his proposed history of Welsh music and a few relate to folk songs and singing. One volume of copy letters, 1890-1891, mainly to his brothers and sister, are also included.

Williams, Richard Conway

Diaries

Diaries and memo books of various sizes, containing entries relating to his daily activities and, to a great extent, the role played by music in his life. Entries refecting his work as a collector of folk songs and as editor of the Journal of the Welsh Folk-Song Society occur regularly. References reflecting his vocation as a botanist are sometimes included, particularly in the earlier diaries, and are noted at the appropriate file level descriptions.
