The 'cywyddau' have been numbered, possibly at a date later than the time of writing, and it appears that several folios are wanting at the beginning. The initials 'P. W.' or 'P. Wm.' sometimes occur at the end of a 'cywydd' near the name of the poet.

It contains 'cywyddau', 'englynion', 'penillion', 'carolau', etc. by Lewis Owen, Rowland Owen, John Vaughan, William Phylyp, Dafydd Nanmor, Robin Du o fôn, John Owen, Owen Gwynedd, Sion Tydder, Bedo Brwynllysg, Jon. Phylip [Siôn Phylip], Hugh Lloyd Cynddel [recte Cynfal], Morys Dwyferch [recte Dwyfech], Dafydd ap Ifan ap Owen, Sion Dafydd Trefor [Syr Dafydd Trefor], John Brwynog, Thomas Pris [Plas Iolyn], Rowland Prys, John Davies ['Siôn Dafydd Las'], Sr. Reese, Sion Parry, Hugh Morris, Oliver Roger, Ellis Wynn, William Hu[m]ffr[eys], Robert Owen and [? A late eighteenth century collection of poetry in the hand of John Morris, Glan'r Afon containing 'carolau', 'cerddi', 'ymddiddanion', etc. in free metres and a few englynion by Hugh Morus, Edward Samuel ('Person Llan-garw Gwyn'), [David Jones] ('Dewi Fardd'), Richard Parry ('or Ddiserth'), Morys ap Robert ('o'r Bala'), Robert Evans ('o blwy Meifod'), Mr Robert Wynn ('Vicar Gwyddelwern'), Owen Gruffydd, Ellis Rowland (Harlech), Matthew Owen ('o Langar'), Mr W. Williams ('Person Llan Aelian yn Rhos'), 'Dai Seion' ('o Gaernarfon'), Mr William Williams [recte Wynn] ('o Langynhafal'), Sion Powel ('o Lansannan'), Edward Richard, [Walter Davies] ('Gwallter Mechain'), Jonathan Hughes, Edward Morris, Lewis Glyn Cothi and David Ellis. It contains 'Cywydd y pren eirin yn dair rhan'; 'Cywydd yn erbyn Medd-dod'; and 'cywyddau' by Llewelyn ab Evan, Edward ap Rheece, Meredydd ap Rhys, William Cynwal, and 'englynion' by Owen Gruffydd, Moris Powel, Edward Maelor, and Simwnt Vaughan.

An imperfect, seventeenth century manuscript. Pp. 1-160 and 165-232 contain a collection of Welsh free- and strict-metre poems (medieval to seventeenth century) including poems by Howell Thomas Dauid, Jenk[in] Richard, William Jenkin, Giles ap John, David Du Hir Addig, Charles Thomas, Robert Lia, Rys Goch 'o Fochgoron', John Kent, John Jones, Rich. Watkins, clerk, John Tydyr, Rhys Parri, Dafydd Llwyd Mathey, Hugo Dauids, vicarius, Tho. Lewis, Charles Jones, Mredyth ap Rosser, Res Brychan, Ievan Rhydd, Dafydd ap Gwilim, Ioroth Fyngllwyd, Lln. ap Ho. ap Ivan ap Gronow, Hugh Dafydd (? the same as Hugo Dauids, vicarius, above), Bedo ap Phe. Bach, Dafydd ap Edmond, Iolo Goch, Lln. ap Howell, Howel Swrdwal, Tydyr Aled, Hyw Penmal, and Edward Dafydd (the seventeenth century poet concerning whose identity see TLLM, tt. 96-100, and, for a different opinion, IM, t. 260 and R. Geraint Gruffydd: 'Awdl Wrthryfelgar gan Edward Dafydd', Llên Cymru, cyf. V, tt. 155-63, and cyf. VIII, tt. 65-9). Intermingled with the Welsh poems are a few English items including religious verse by Richard Morgan, clerk, alias Sir Richard y Fwyalchen, and an anonymous poem entitled 'An Epitaph vppon ould dotard Wroth' [? William Wroth, Puritan cleric]. Pp. 161-3 and possibly part of p. 159 contain a record of payments or contributions by an unspecified person or persons, 1643-1646, in connection with the maintenance of royalist forces in co. Monmouth. These include contributions towards the garrisons at Monmoth, Raggland, Colbroock, and Abergev[eny], and towards the cost of provisions, weapons, etc. The volume is referred to as 'Llyfr Jenkin Richard(s)' and this is the Jenkin Richard(s) of Blaenau Gwent whose own poems form part of the text (see IMCY, tt. 82, 176; IM., tt. 257-8, 259-60; TLLM, t. 100; and Llên Cymru, cyf. III, t. 98). In TLLM., tt. 97, 100, poems by Edward Dafydd are said to be in the poet's own hand, but R. Geraint Gruffydd in Llên Cymru, cyf. V, t. 158 infers that the whole volume is in the hand of the aforementioned Jenkin Richard(s).

A volume lettered 'Llyfr J. Morris - II', being a collection of 'cerddi', 'englynion', etc. by Thomas Edwards ['Twm o'r Nant'], Hugh Jones ('o Langwm'), Dafydd Jones ('neu'n Gyffredyn y tailiwr hir') and Hugh Morris ('yr Englyn diwaetha medd rhai Ag nid annhebig a wnaeth ...'), and anonymous poems. There are copious marginal entries which are entirely irrelevant to the text.

A collection of carols on biblical and religious themes by Thomas Iefan, Dd. ap Gruffudd o Drewyn, Edmwnt Prys, Siôn Morys, 'Un o Lunden', and others un-named; 'dyrïe karwssio'; 'englynion i wragedd'; various 'englynion'; 'Owdwl y gath' by Robert Klidro; 'Araith Wgan'; 'Ymddiddan rhwng yr wttreswr a'r dylluan' by 'Thomas y darlleniwr'; 'cywyddau' by Edward ap Raff, 'O.G.', and others un-named; and a draft letter from his children to Ieuan ap Thomas Lloyd containing a reference 'to the new found land wch is called Ferginiae'.

An imperfect late seventeenth and early eighteenth century commonplace book of Howell Tanat (Tanatt, Tannat, Tannatt), Trewylan Isa, Llansanffraid-ym-Mechain, Montgomeryshire. It contains poetry in free metres by Oliver Rogers, Humfrey Dauyd ap Ivan, William Philips, Rolant Voughan [sic], Howell Tanatt, Edward Rolant and Hugh Moris, and anonymous poems; English verses; accounts, 1685-1707 and undated (household, farm, payments to craftsmen, assessments of lewns in Llansantffraid and Llandysilio, etc.); short depositions touching a suit in the Court of Chancery relating to Robt. Kinaston [of Trewylan Ganol, Llansanffraid-ym-Mechain] containing references to a plot and the keeping of a Jesuit priest; household and medical recipes; an incomplete dictionary of English phrases with their Latin equivalents; scriptural notes; a prayer; etc.

A manuscript consisting largely of transcripts and memoranda by Mary Richards and Thomas Richards of Darowen. The volume appears originally to have been used as an account book of receipts and disbursements in respect of the farms of Llwyn, Cafnmaelen and Byrthlwydd [parish of Dolgellau, Merioneth], 1799-1802, and also to record biographies of [James Crichton, 'The Admirable'], Sir Francis Walsingham, Sir Francis Drake and William Cecil, Lord Burghley. Sef Traethawd byr ar un o destynau Eisteddfod Tal y Cafn ... y 30ain o Hydref 1823. Gan Ednyfed', pedigrees (eg Dr John Davies, Mallwyd and Thomas Jones, Esgir Evan, Llanbryn Mair); medical recipes; memoranda and diary entries; cut-out autographs; press cuttings, etc. The volume is lettered 'Llyfr Hir Mair Richards'.

An eighteenth century manuscript consisting of miscellaneous material in the hand of the Reverend Edward Gamage [rector of the parish of St. Athan, co. Glamorgan, 1717-1734] with additions in later eighteenth century hands (see TLLM, tt. 106-07; IM, t. 309; and IMCY, tt. 58-60, 68, 171). In Edward Gamage's own hand are transcripts of Welsh strict- and free-metre poems by Thomas Morgan 'o Dilla garw', Hopkin y Gwaedd 'o Fargam', Rob. Tho[ma]s 'o Sant y Bryd', Thomas Leyshon o'r Prysg', Miles W[illia]m, Thomas W[ilia]m 'o Dregolwyn', Thomas Llewelyn, vicar of Llancarvan, Dafydd Thomas 'o blwyf y Bettws', and Llewelyn ab Iefan, a copy of a letter in Welsh, 23 November 1726, from the said Edward Gamage himself from Sant Athan, to Llewelyn ab Iefan of the parish of Llangrallo [co. Glamorgan], poet, in reply to a request for genealogical information relating to the Stradling family, and, at the reverse end of the volume, 'A Continuation of ye Exposition of ye Church Catechism for ye use of ye Children of ye Parish of Lantwitt Major by E. Gamage, Lecturer and Catechist there', a recipe for a dog bite, and ? sermon notes. Later additions to the volume include transcripts of three stanzas of Welsh verse, one being by Ph'p Morgan b'r Sarnfawr' and one by his daughter Eleanor, miscellaneous English verse some dated 1768, and a few financial items. Four imperfect, printed leaves from a ? seventeenth century edition of metrical psalms with prayers for use in private houses have been bound in at the end of the volume.

A carelessly compiled collection of 'cerddi' and 'penillion' written for the most part by David Morris, Llanwddyn during the period 1778-84. The majority of the poems are anonymous but a few are attributed to Hugh Morris, David Morris, Humphrey Jones, Griffith Evans, Thomas Edwards ('Twm o'r Nant') (1783), ?David Owen (Ceuna[n]t Coch) and David Llwyd ('o Gowny'). Also included in the volume are a few miscellaneous entries such as a notice of letting of Tynykiln, parish of Llanvehangel, Montgomeryshire, 1778; undated accounts; signatures of Thomas Jones (Cownu), David Davies ('Y Wevar'), etc.; receipts from David Morris, 1779; etc.

A collection of poetry, etc. largely in the hand of David Jones. Examples of the scribe's signatures in the manuscript are dated 1704 and 1708 and the volume may therefore be attributed approximately to this period. It comprises 'carolau', 'cerddi', 'Ymddiddanion' and a 'cywydd' by T. Ed[wards], Hugh Morris, Cad[wala]dr Roberts and Thomas Maurice, together with anonymous poems; a few medical recipes; a table, undated, of the phases of the moon; an account, undated, of monies received [in the Llansilin area]; and a presentment of Edward Jones and Roger Lewis, churchwardens of the parish of Llanarmon mynydd mawr, 1705.

A fragment of a manuscript written by David Ellis, Criccieth, containing a 'cywydd' which he addressed to Rhys Jones o'r Blaenau; 'carolau' on 'Charity Meistres', 'Mawl Merch', 'Gwel'r Adeilad', and 'King's ffarwel'; a 'cywydd' to 'Dafydd Siôn'; a fragment of a bardic grammar; 'marwnadau' - Robert Davies, Llannerch, Lewis Morris (Evan Evans, 'Ieuan Brydydd Hir'), 'rhyw delyniwr' (Simwnt Fychan), and Siôn Rhydderch (incomplete).

An imperfect manuscript probably of the second quarter of the seventeenth century in the hand of David Elis. It contains 'cywyddau' and 'awdlau' by Gruffydd Hiraethog, Guto r Glynn, Tudur Aled, William Llyn, Ieuan Tew, Tudur Penllyn, Huw Kae Llwyd, Llywelyn Goch amheurig hen, Dafydd Nanmor, Gruffydd Hafren, Syr Owen ap Gwilim, Sion Phylip, Bedo Brwynllys, Morys Dwyfech, Dafydd ap Edmwnd, Llowdden, Tomas Penllyn, Mredydd ap Rys, Sion Tvdur, Dafydd Llwyd Llywelyn ap Gruffydd, Llywelyn ap Gutun Delynior, Syr Rys Karno, Wiliam Kynnwal, Dafydd ap Gwilim, Gwilim ap Ieuan hen, Lewis Glynn Kothi and Ierwerth fynglwyd, together with anonymous poems and fragments. A few 'cywydd' couplets and 'penillion', some by Thomas Owen, have been inserted in blank pages in later hands. The spine is lettered 'Llyfr Dafydd Elis 1630' but it has apparently been ascribed to this year not on internal evidence but on the analogy of Cwrtmawr MS 27, which is in the same hand.

The manuscript is undoubtedly 'Ysgriflyfr Carndochan', which Owen Jones ('Manoethwy') cites as the original from which he made transcripts in Cwrtmawr MSS 400 and 515. An incomplete list of contents appears in Cwrtmawr MS 317, p. 265 in the hand of Canon Robert Williams, Rhydycroesau, and a note on the fly-leaf of the present manuscript explains that Robert Williams obtained the volume from the library of Daniel Silvan Evans. The spine is lettered 'Llyfr Cywyddau'.

A manuscript largely in the hand of Margaret Davies, Coetgae-du, Trawsfynydd, being a collection of 'cywyddau', a few 'awdlau', several 'englynion', and a few 'cerddi' and other poems in free metres. The collection was compiled probably during the period 1760-62, and the poets represented in the volume are Rice Jones ('or blaene'), Hugh Evans, Abram Evan, Thos. The volume also includes a transcript based on 'Authorum Britannicorum nomina & quando floruerint' from John Davies: Antiquae Linguae Britannicae ... Dictionarium Duplex ... (Londini, 1632), and extensive elaborate calligraphic exercises partly in the form of transcripts of documents associated with the name of Griffith Vaughan of Pool [Montgomeryshire], 1647 and undated. Many of the pages containing calligraphic exercises, as in the case of some of the manuscripts of John Jones, ?Gellifydy, are damaged on account of the corrosive nature of the ink used by the scribe.
