Financial ledgers

The series consists of financial ledgers detailing income from membership dues, branch contributions, donations, and sales of publications through the South Wales Bookshop, and the expenditure of the Communist Party on organisers' wages, and administrative costs.

Edgar Evans' imprisonment

The file includes material relating to Councillor Edgar Evans, or 'Edgar the Ironmonger' as he was known, who served a prison sentence of nine months in 1936 for the part he played in the fight to establish a lodge of the South Wales Miners' Federation at the Taff Merthyr Colliery. There is a photograph of the first group of those committed for trial at Taff Merthyr, and twelve photographs of the demonstration and meeting in support of them. The file also includes greetings to Edgar Evans from Tom Mann, Harry Pollitt, and T. E. Nicholas, 1936, with related correspondence, and Edgar Evans' County Council Election leaflet, 1946.
