Records of Messrs David and David, comprising records of valuations of properties in South Wales and the adjoining counties of England made during the period 1846-1933, including Breconshire, 1872-1912; Carmarthenshire, 1865-1884; Glamorgan, 1846-1926; Monmouthshire, 1867-1933; Gloucestershire, 1875-1880; Herefordshire, 1874-1881; and Somerset, 1876-1885. The records include surveys, reports, valuations, correspondence, notes, plans, valuation schedules, sale notices and copy agreements. Many of the records reflect the industrial and urban development of South Wales and quite a number of the individual valuations are of land subject to compulsory purchase by railway companies and public utilities.

One of forty-one volumes containing transcripts of, and extracts from, parish registers and bishops' transcripts of parish registers principally from Monmouthshire, in the autograph of Bradney, with several insets in the autographs of John Hobson Matthews (Monmouth), Francis Green (St Davids), John Davies (Aberystwyth) and others. Deeds and other documents, [early 14th cent.]-1820, relating to properties in Wales and England; and other material, including miscellaneous wills and a remembrance roll for Monmouthshire Assizes, 1586.

The file contains papers of F. E. Llewellyn Jones's, grandfather, Thomas Francis of Blackmoore Farm, Abbeydore, Herefordshire, mainly probate, executorship and death duty papers, and accounts of his father Phillip Francis of Coity Mawr, Llanfeugan, Breconshire, farmer, who died in 1851. It also includes an agreement for letting Blackmoore Farm, and authority for his wife to continue farming.

Papers of and acquired by John Thomas Evans and his brother A. W. Wade-Evans 1590-1964, largely antiquarian in interest, comprising transcripts, mostly by J. T. Deeds and documents, 1586-1910, relating to the trust created by the will, 25 April 1846, of Edwin Carter of Chepstow, Monmouthshire, and afterwards of Clifton in the city and county of Bristol, and pursuant to an order in Chancery in the cause of Carter v Carter, 1905. They include title deeds relating to premises in Monmouthshire, and Clifton, in Bristol, and family probate records.

'Ephemeris', being a list of sermon texts, etc. and of the places at which they were delivered, 1775-1794, by Thomas Morgan; most of the sermons were preached at Morley, Yorkshire, while others were delivered at Henllan and elsewhere in Wales. The sermons bear the serial numbers 3484 to 5572.

The file comprises invitations to exhibitions at the Tate Gallery, British Museum, Hanover Gallery, Leicester galleries and various other galleries, predominantly in London, 1945-1970 (with gaps) with exhibition catalogues for George Stubbs (1957), Augustus John (1948), Andre Bauchant (1960), Paule Vezelay and Winifred Nicholson (1954), Ben Nicholson (1954), Lady Patricia Ramsay (1959), the '56 Group [Wales]', and The New English Art Club (1945).

Exercise book containing drafts of a poem, 1924, composed by Vernon Watkins during his year at Magdalene College, Cambridge, and apparently unpublished (ff. 48-54 verso, 57 recto-verso).
The volume also contains notes, 1924, on the Epistle to the Ephesians (ff. 1-11).

A manuscript containing the names of all rectories 'in the kingdom of England and Calais and the Marches thereof' of the annual value of over £10, arranged in dioceses, deaneries and counties, followed by the names of all vicarages in England, Wales and the Marches of the annual value of over £10, similarly arranged, all having been transcribed from the Liber Regis in the First Fruits and Tenths Office.

Deeds, 1728-1850, relating to the manor of Golon and other properties in Radnorshire, and Ludlow, Shropshire; deeds and documents, 1778-1808, relating to the manors of Brilley and Eardisley and other properties, Herefordshire, and the manor of Aberedw and other properties in Radnorshire; and a schedule of the Whitehead estate in Radnorshire, [early 20th century].

The fonds comprises case papers, 1903-1973, dealing with interested parties within Wales and/or the London area who had some sort of Welsh connection. Included are papers dealing with land and property transfer, receivership and company liquidation, defamation and compensation, opposition to parliamentary bills, the settlement of personal estate, contempt of court and general legal matters. Not all of the issues addressed in the files actually resulted in court cases. The majority of the files consist of legal papers such as instructions and notes to counsel, briefs to counsel, opinions of counsel, affidavits, statements, declarations, summonses, claims and orders, often in draft form or as official copies, and solicitors' charges and bills. These are usually accompanied by correspondence made up of original letters and copy letters, both office copies and carbon copies, as well as handwritten notes and occasional telegrams, bills and receipts. Frequently, the files also contain associated documents such as copies of leases, agreements and deeds, plans and maps, accounts, reports and transcriptions of evidence, together with relevant printed material such as sale particulars, parliamentary bills and published reports.
