Letters from Dr Richard Price,

A bound volume containing photocopies of two letters, 26 May and 2 June 1788, from Dr Richard Price, Hackney, to the Rev. Theophilus Lindsey, Strand, London, discussing contemporary religious trends and opinions. There is also a draft of a reply, dated 26 May 1788, from Lindsey to Dr Price.

Pit reports of the United National Collieries Ltd. which give details of coal production, working conditions, wages, pit accidents and fires, and 'stay-in' strikes. They also record details of the payment of damages collected from the wages of workmen for breach of contract during the 'stay-in' strikes of 1935.

Miners' Welfare,

Correspondence and reports, 1934-38, relating to the work of Captain J. Glynn-Davies as Miners' Welfare Officer to the Ocean Coal Company. They include appeals for financial assistance from individuals, voluntary groups and organisations, and unemployed workers' clubs and centres; activities taking place at boys' and girls' camps and clubs; miners' welfare scholarships; Jones's reports, 1935-36, including details of schemes submitted to the Commissioner for the Special Areas, Malcolm Stewart; a personal memorandum, originally submitted by Captain J. Glynn-Jones in 1929 and then re-submitted on his assuming his new position in 1938, outlining the fundamental failings of the Ocean Area Recreastion Union's approach to miners' welfare work and suggesting 'principles' that might be applied to remedy the failings.

Memoranda and letters, 1926-29, from J. Conway Davies as secretary of the Representative Group of Employers, to David Davies, also a member of the same group. The many memoranda relate to a wide range of subjects concerning the economy, industry, employment and unemployment, industrial relations etc. There are also the minutes of the joint committee minutes of the Representative Group and the General Council of the Trades Union Congress, and full joint conferences on industrial reorganisation and relations.
