The Charter of North Wales

A volume containing a 19th century copy of the charter of North Wales granted by the King on the 3rd of March, 22 Henry VII, taken from the manuscript of the Reverend Evan Evans, curate of Llanfair Talhaiarn. The volume is labelled on the back 'Peerage Case Proceedings 1767' but does not at present contain that document.

Humphrey Humphreys: Additions to Athenae Oxoniensis

Additions, early 18 cent., to Anthony Wood's Athenae Oxoniensis (1691-1692; 1721) by Humphrey Humphreys (1648-1712), Bishop of Bangor and later of Hereford, which were incorporated into the third edition of the work.

Emynau

A volume, [18 cent.], containing hymns, in Welsh, by and in the hand of the Rev. William Williams, Pantycelyn. Some of the hymns were printed (very inaccurately) by Dr N. Cynhafal Jones in Vol. II of Gweithiau Williams Pantycelyn, 1891; others were published by Williams himself in the Aleluia. A letter written to the Rev. William Williams, Truro, Cornwall, by his brother, the Rev. John Williams of Pantycelyn, dated September 1816, has been inserted into the manuscript.

Transcript of Welsh poetry, mainly cywyddau and englynion, written after 1630. The transcript is chiefly in two hands, the latter writing being the same as that of Llanstephan MSS 122-5.

Thomas John Masleni: Tour in Wales

A journal, 1826, written by Thomas John Masleni, of a tour on foot from Carmarthen to Mold. The writer has embellished his work with fourteen rough sketches which have subsequently been coloured.

Rhys Cain: Marwnadau

A collection of elegies, in Welsh, by and in the hand of Rhys Cain (d. 1614), after 1588. Inserted into the collection is a cywydd (p. 115) by Gruffydd ap Ieuan ap Llewelyn Fychan in the hand of Thomas ap Wiliam of Trefriw, and a cywydd (p. 119) by and in the hand of Huw Machno, 1601.

J. Wathen: Poetry

A volume containing eleven printed tracts of poetry preceded by 28 pages of manuscript poetry, probably by J. Wathen, who owned the book in 1799, the subjects being Tintern Abbey, Llanthony Abbey, Netley Abbey and Glastonbury Abbey.

Sir John Williams, M.D.: Minutes of the International Medical Congress

A volume containing minutes of the International Medical Congress of 1881, Obstetric Section, written by Sir John Williams, bart, M.D., who acted as Secretary of the Committee. Autograph letters from Prof. Spiegelberg of Breslau, Dr W. A. Freund of Strassburg and various other British and Continental doctors have been inserted into the volume.

W. J. Roberts (Gwilym Cowlyd): Gweithiau barddonol O. Gethin Jones

A volume containing a collection of the poems of O. Gethin Jones made by and in the hand of W. J. Roberts (Gwilym Cowlyd) when preparing his edition of the works for the press (Llanrwst, 1884). Many extracts from newspapers have been inserted into the volume.

Legal miscellanea

A volume containing legal correspondence and other documents, second half 18 cent., addressed to Morgan Thomas of Norfolk Street and to Hughes of Hatton Garden, solicitors, of London. The correspondence includes papers relating to Richard Vaughan of Golden Grove (1758) and to the settlement made on the marriage of Sir Richard Fowler with Sarah Sloane, 27 August 1706.

A volume containing a 19th century transcript of Welsh poetry by one of Sir Thomas Phillipps's secretaries, together with a transcribed pedigree (p. 108) of Elizabeth I.

Grievances of the Isle of Anglesey

A volume, 17 cent., containing grievances voiced by the inhabitants of Anglesey. A small edition of twenty-five copies of this tract was printed by James Orchard Halliwell-Phillips and it was subsequently reprinted in the Archaeologia Cambrensis for 1881, a few copies being afterwards struck off for private circulation.

The tenth of thirty-one volumes, 1807-1817, and two other associated volumes, 1819 & 1820, containing original notes, probably taken, 1807-1820, by Samuel Heywood (1753-1828), one of the Welsh judges at the Great Sessions of Cardiganshire, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire. Volume XIV is missing and Volume XVIII has been misplaced.
