Petition of Griffithe Ryse, esq., to the Queen [Elizabeth] praying that she will grant him towards the maintenance of his family "some such parte in fee symple of the late inheritaunce" of Ryse Griffithe his father wehreof there is in Her Majesty's hands the sum of £324 5s. 41/2d, or the fee-farm of the said lands at the accustomed rentes. The petition in the preamble recites the services to the Crown of the petitioner's ancestors in the following words: "That Sir Ryse ap Thomas, Knighte, great graundfather unto your said servaunte dyde in his lief tyme manye great and acceptable services to your Majwesty's moste noble graundfather and father of worhie memories, especiallie with the Service of xviii hundred of horsemenne at his owne charges at the landings of your majesty's said most noble graundfather at Mylforde Haven in Wales, and in the Battayle of Boseworthe, and afterwardes with xven hundred horsemenne at Blakheathe feeld where he tocke the Lord Awdley, prisoner, and synce in the service of your moste noble father at Tyrwynne and Turney with xven hundred horses where he also tucke prisoner the Ducke Longuvile: inrecompence of whiche and other his many true and faythfull serices yt pleased their Majesties graciouslie to advaunce him to the moste noble order of the Gartere and to other great offices and Lyvinges in Sowthe Wales where he then dwelled. After whose deathe Ryse Griffithe Esqhire, heyre to the said Sr Ryse and father to your majesty's said servaunte, beinge a yonge gentlemanne of good hope and lyke credite was perswadyde by on James Griffith ap Howell his nere Kinsmane, who was corrupted by th'adversaries of the said Ryse Griffithe to put his hande to a blanke wherein the said James procured suche matters to be wrytten as conteyned tresone as he the said James, being flede oute of the Realme fore dyverse tresons and excepted in dyverse pardones afterwards confessed, fore whiche the said Ryse Griffithe was attaynted wherebye all his lyvinge amounting to the yerlie value of a thousand poundes at the leaste came to the handes of your moste noble father. After whose deathe yt pleased youre majesty's late mos gracious Syster Quene '.

Indenture whereby livery is made to Sir William Dodington, Knight, and Mary his wife, of all the lands which have descended to them by the death of the late John Herbert, Secretary to the King's Privy Council. A schedule is attached showing the extent and value of the said lands which are situated in the counties of Glamorgan, Berkshire and Monmouth, as set forth in the Inquisition post mortem of the said John, held at Newbury, on 1 April 1619.
