Personal papers

The file contains letters to Gus Jones while he was serving in the Royal Corps of Signals and later during civilian life, including two referring to his British Legion gold medal. The papers also include a report on his father's retirement from the Montgomeryshire Constabulary, 1939; a newsletter of the Welshpool Comforts Fund, 1940; his election address as a candidate for the Powys County Council, 1973; and a journal of a Baltic cruise on the SS Uganda, 1974, visiting Kristiansand, Visby, Leningrad, Helsinki and Copenhagen.

Family papers

The file contains papers relating to the Girls' Friendly Society, 1905-1939, of which his mother was a member, together with an annual report of the Montgomery District of the Independent Order of Oddfellows, 1929, which lists Gus Jones's uncle, Jonathan Griffiths, as immediate past provincial master, and papers relating to his mother's widow's police pension, 1963.

Religious interests

The file contains notices, programmes, orders of service and other papers mainly relating to local churches and chapels. Included are orders of service for annual bilingual inter-denominational services at Abaty Glyn-y-groes (Valle Crucis Abbey), 1979-1980, and for the enthronement of Alwyn Rice Jones as Bishop of St Asaph, 1982, and letters relating to the visit of Pope John Paul II to Canterbury, 1982.

The file contains collecting books for the local fund of the Lord Mayor of London's Fund for the Relief of Distress in Mining Areas, opened by Sarah Evans Davies, mayor of Welshpool. The notebooks give the names and addresses of donors, including the employees of local companies, and the sums donated.
