Three composite volumes containing the minutes of the House of .Lords during the periods 30 January 1727/0 – 28 May 1728, 21 January 1723/9 – 14 May 1729, 13 January 1729/30 -15 May 1730, 21January 1730/1 – 7 May 1731, and 16 January 1732/3 – 12 June, 1733; together with printed copies of the King's speech to Parliament, 16 January 1732/3, Parliament's address to the King and the King's reply, 17 January 1732/3, and Parliament's address to the King and the King's reply, 9 May 1733. The pagination is misleading, because it refers to the days of session under which the minutes are separately arranged. Paper; ff. 1-83, 1-85, 1-84, 1-73, 6 unnumbered, and 1-93: 301 x 188; 1728/9 - 1733; half sheepskin; 3 vols.

Works of Charles Hanbury Williams,

Collection of transcripts of odes, ballads, etc., by Sir Charles Hanbury Williams (1703-1759), satirical writer and diplomat. With one exception (NLW MS 17003D, pp. 14-16)these were published in The Works of the Right Honourable Sir Chas. Hanbury Williams, K.B (1822). Sir Charles was the son of John Hanbury, Fontypool, and was M.P. for Monmouthshire from 1734 until 1747. His daughter and co-heiress Frances married William Anne Holies Capel, 4th Earl of Essex. A note by Albert Addams-Williams on the fly-leaf of NLW MS.17003D states that these two volumes were purchased at the Earl of Essex's sale. Inserted in MS. A.46 is (1) a description of the volumes in the form of a sale catalogue cutting and a letter, dated December 19, 1922, from llessrs. Pickering and Chatto, from London, to Major Albert Ad dams-Williams at Llangibby Castle, acknowledging the receipt of the purchase money; and (2) a portion of the ? autograph manuscript of 'An Ode from L[or]d Bath to Ambition' [See Works, Vol.1, pp. 157 et seq]. Paper; pp. [i], 1-12, 14-41, 44-49, 53-69, [i-ii], and pp. J.-31, 35-41, [i-xxvii]; 282 x 226; red morocco, with blue panels and gilt tooling; 2vols.

Journals of tours through Wales,

Composite volumes containing journals of tours through Wales by Sir Richard Colt Hoare. The first volume embraces the Vale of Clwyd, Rhuddlan, St. Asaph, Denbigh, Ruthin, Mold, Holywell, Northop, Flint, Hawarden, Chester, Caergwrle, Wrexham, Wynnstay, Chirk Castle, Oswestry, Montgomery, Knighton, Presteigne, Tintern Abbey, Chepstow, Clifton, and Bristol. The second volume embraces (a) Bristol, Newport, Caldicot, Caerleon, Usk, Raglan, Abergavenny, Llanthony, Crickhowell, Tretower, Brecon, Trecastle, Merthyr, Pontypridd, Caerphilly, Tredegar, Newport and Bristol; (b) Newport, Cardiff, Llandaff, Cowbridge, St. Donats, Margam, Aberavon, Briton Ferry, Neath, Swansea, Llanelly, Kidwelly, Carmarthen, Llandilo, Laugharne, Llanstephan, Narberth, Haverfordwest, Newgale, St. Davids, Fishguard, Cardigan, Aberaeron Talybont, Machynlleth, Llanidloes, Newtown, Welshpool and Shrewsbury; (c) Monmouth and Brockway; and (d) Aberystwyth. As far as can be ascertained from internal evidence these tours were undertaken in 1796. A sale catalogue cutting, pasted on the inside front cover of the first volume, states that the work is in the autograph of Sir Richard Colt Hoare. Portions of it, however, are in a different hand. The work has all the appearances of a draft, some paragraphs being deleted and copious additional notes inserted. The volumes have been assembled and bound in a very careless manner, individual folios and even complete sections being misplaced. The work is divided into chapters which have been numbered at a later date. The first volume contains sections XVI-XX, 20, XXII, and the second volume sections XXIII-XXV, 26. These numbers, as well as the existing pagination, suggest that the work is incomplete. Paper; 424 ff., many of which are numbered; 242 x 193; full sheepskin; 2 vols.

The original pagination is neither complete nor accurate. The volumes were at one time in the possession of David Jones 'Dewi Fardd', Trefriw, who has written his own and other pedigrees on ff. 298 and 668b, and was purchased from his executors by Thomas Pennant. The crest of the Pennant family is embossed in gold on the spine of each volume. The volumes are described in Messrs. Wm. Dew and Son's Catalogue of the Remainder of the Downing Library, 1913, p. 19.
