Badminton manorial records

Items numbered 1-5537. The typed schedule for this group is arranged into records relating to the lordships and manors of Crickhowell and Tretower, and township and borough of Crickhowell, 1382-1892 (vol. 1), Monmouthshire manors, 1262-1834 (vols 2-3), Glamorgan manors, 1283-1921 (vols 4-5), miscellaneous counties, 1393-1641, and miscellaneous documents, 1429-1788 (vol. 6). The first volume of the typed schedule includes an introduction and lists of the lords and stewards of the manors of Crickhowell and Tretower, 1382-1892, and tables of constables and numbers of inhabitants, 1742-1843.

Registers of leases,

Registers Of Leases giving dates of grants of leases, terms of leases, names of lessees and of lives of lease, annual rent, amount of fines and heriots, and descriptions of the premises.

Registers of counterpart leases,

Uniformly bound, outsize volumes, containing dates of grants of leases, terms of leases, names of lessees and of lives of lease, annual rent, amount of fines and heriots, descriptions of the premises, and details of subsequent licences granted to assign or to sub-let which were endorsed on the leases. Four copies of the register for 1792-1895 were made. One copy was made for the Badminton estate office, one for the Monmouth estate office at Troy House, one for the estate's London attorneys and one for the Commissioners of the Admiralty at Greenwich House. For 1895-1903 there are three copies: the Admiralty Commissioners' copy has either not survived or none was made for them in the first place. All the volumes are indexed by assignees and lesees, and all include details about the surrenders of leases and about the sales and purchasors of premises.

Statements of accounts including statements of rents received on audit days, statements of total rents received including cos Glam., and Brec., Wiltshire and Gloucestershire, cash accounts, bills received, land taxes allowed, payments made, canal shares, rents received for forges and lands from Harford, Partridge & co., timber sold, repairs, disbursements, contingency bills of expenses, together with receipts, lists of vouchers delivered and related correspondence.

Account books containing details and costs of repairs undertaken on farm buidings, houses, cottages, etc. Arranged into accounts relating to the manor of Chepstow, and to the Monmouthshire estate.
