Scott Inquiry

The file contains correspondence and papers, 1993-1994, concerning the proceedings of the Scott Inquiry into government policy on defence exports to Iraq. The letters relate mainly to an accusation that James Callaghan, then Chancellor of the Exchequer, had lied to the House of Commons over plans to devalue the pound in 1967. The file includes letters from James Callaghan, John Major and William Waldegrave.

The file comprises letters, dated 2000, relating to the government's intention to repeal Section 28 of the 1988 Local Government Act, and to equalise the age of consent to homosexual relationships at 16. Most of the correspondents appeal to Lord Cledwyn to support an amendment introduced by Baroness Young opposing the repeal of Section 28.
