Correspondence and papers, 1779-1822, mainly ecclesiastical, relating primarily to the Richards family in the parish of Darowen, Montgomeryshire. They focus mainly on the Rev. Thomas Richards, vicar of the parish of Darowen. They include some poetry and the rent roll of the parish of Darowen for the year 1822.

Letters, 1787-1846 and undated, to members of the Richards family of Darowen, mainly Rev. Thomas Richards (1754-1837), interspersed with a small number of stray letters and notes. Most of the letters relate to parochial affairs and to matters concerning the church. Some correspondents seek help with problems and difficulties. A number of the letters are addressed to 'Miss Richards', and there are a small number from the Rev. Thomas Richards.

Miscellaneous letters, 1801-1868 and undated, mainly addressed to members of the Richards family of Darowen, Llanefydd, Berriew, Llansilin, Welshpool, Llanfyllin, Llangynyw, and Caerwys. Most of the letters concern church and parochial matters. They sometimes give personal and family news.

Financial papers, 1803-1877, relating to various members of the Richards family of Darowen etc., including a large number of bills and receipts, mainly in relation to domestic accounts.

Miscellaneous letters and notes, 1813-1870, some fragments, addressed to members of the Richards family of Darowen etc. Most of the letters discuss religious, ecclesiastical and parochial matters. Some concern the payment of bills, the settlement of outstanding accounts etc.

Sermon and scriptural notes, [?1818]-[?1848], of the Rev. Thomas Richards 'Junior' (1785-1855) of Darowen etc. Some of the notes may derive from other members of the Richards family, including the Rev. Richard Richards (1780-1860) of Caerwys. The sermons were preached at various Montgomeryshire parishes including Caerwys, Darowen, Llangynyw, Meifod and Welshpool.

Inset at the end of the volume are transcripts of Montgomeryshire pedigrees, etc. Much of the material in the volume has been transcribed from other volumes now in the Cwrtmawr Collection (e.g. MSS 200, 222, 242 and 243) and there are references to such sources as 'un o lyfrau Maesglas Mallwyd' (transcribed in 1857) (p. 269), a manuscript in the hand of Robert Arthur (p. 342), 'Llyfr ym meddiant Lowri Jones' (p. 380), etc. A note pasted on the inside of the upper cover states 'This Vol. was copied by Owen Jones (brother of Myrddin Fardd) from a MS Vol. ... in the handwriting of Lewis Morris [Cwrtmawr MS 200] now at Bryntanad, Llanerfyl Montgomerys[hire] (Richards) E. Breese'. Owen Jones was for a short time a private tutor at BrynTanad (see The Dictionary of Welsh Biography). The spine is lettered 'Mannoethwy MSS'.

Thomas Richards (ME 10/2); notes and an incomplete typescript on the Rev. David Richards (Dewi Silin) (ME 10/3); notes and transcripts relating to the Rev. John Lloyd (or Llwyd) Richards (ME 10/4-5); and a few notes relating to the Rev. Lewis Richards (ME 10/6).
Also included is a group of photographs, copies of photographs at NLW, at least some of which are of members of the Richards family (ME 10/7).

The papers comprise copies of some six speeches by Mari Ellis, including one on Mary Richards, [?1970s]-2004 (ME 9/1); a Letts 1981 Diary containing notes and transcripts relating to Thomas Richards and several of his sons (ME 9/2); a group of miscellaneous notes on the family (ME 9/3); offprints of Mari Ellis's article 'Teulu Darowen' (Journal of the Historical Society of the Church in Wales, 3 (1953), 120-139, and 4 (1954), 58-88) (ME 9/4); a transcript of Thomas Richards's diary for 1782-3 (Cwrtmawr MS 239) and related notes by Mari Ellis, [?1989]-[?1998] (ME 9/5); and the manuscript of 'Thomas Richards 1754-1837' (100 ff.), [c. 1991] (ME 9/6).
