Appears to have been taken in the shade of a tree, the camera pointing towards the ground, possibly taken in error.

[Scenery near Bariloche]

A view across one of the lakes near Bariloche. See pages 192-193 of 'A Wider Sky' (Gomer 1991) for further details of KW's stay in Bariloche.

[Rock formations in a red sedimentary rock]

A low cliff of sedimentary rocks with poplars and a flat valley floor visible in the far distance. The rock strata exhibit signs of differential erosion, much of it commensurate with aeolian processes. See also 4690/285.

[Rock formations]

Eroded & stratified limestone exhibiting features associated with different types of erosion, in particular aeolian erosion. The rock formations seen here are reminiscent of those on the left hand side of both 'Road across the Desert'...

[Road, poplars and escarpment]

A road partly sheltered by poplars curves towards the left of the frame. Beyond is a steep escarpment, the lower slopes of which are cloaked in scree.

[Road leading to a fertile valley]

A wide, tarmacadamed road leads to a fertile valley, probably Dyffryn Camwy, in the distance. This may have been taken on the bus journey KW took to Puerto Madryn mentioned on p155 of 'A Wider Sky' (Gomer, 1991)
