John Tripp and others

The file includes drafts, 1976, of the poem by John Tripp, 'Poet in the village', on the occasion of the publication of Selected poems, and a copy of the script of the play 'It's not by his beak you judge a woodcock', 1972, adapted by John Tripp from the short story by Glyn Jones; typescript copies of poems by Roland Mathias, [1944x1980], some of which contain manuscript amendments; and copies of plays by Dedwydd Jones, with printed leaflets and covering letter [?1963x1973].

The file consists of typescript poems, some drafts, by Leslie Norris, 1968-1985 (with gaps). Some include manuscript amendments and notes in the hand of Leslie Norris and a number are signed by the poet. Several items also contain brief notes in the hand of Glyn Jones, which mostly appear to identify poems included in Ransoms, or Mountains, polecats, pheasants.

Various family papers

The file comprises papers, 1814-[1995] (with gaps), pertaining to various family members, mostly Glyn Jones's parents, William Henry and Margaret Jones, and his grandfather, Morgan H. Williams ('Morgan Glan Taf'). The papers include certificates of births, marriages and deaths, 1814-1966 (with gaps), letters from Morgan and Margaret Williams, Pennsylvania, 1882-1895 (with gaps), and drafts of family trees by Glyn Jones, [1966x1995].

'Llwch Haiarn'

The file comprises papers, [c. 1858]-1900 and 1936, pertaining to David William Jones ('Llwch Haiarn'), paternal grandfather of Glyn Jones. These include poetry in his hand, 1863x1897, which appear to have been composed by him and a number of which were entries for local eisteddfodau; a notebook dated 1862; two Valentine cards; a framed memorial card, 1900, which contains englynion by other poets as tributes to 'Llwch Haiarn'; and a newspaper cutting, 1936, which contains a reference to him.

Correspondence: Gwyn Thomas

The file comprises correspondence, 1981-1982, including draft letters by Glyn Jones, mainly regarding the purchase of the manuscripts and books of Gwyn Thomas by the National Library of Wales, and the publication of a proposed volume of the short stories of Gwyn Thomas by the Poetry Wales Press (Glyn Jones being one of Gwyn Thomas' literary trustees). Drafts of letters are written on various manuscript and printed notes, including some papers pertaining to Yr Academi Gymreig.

The file comprises correspondence, including draft letters by Glyn Jones, 1923-1994 (with gaps), mostly personal letters which appear to be from friends and relatives. Some items also relate to literary works, broadcasts etc. by him, and to his position as member of the Drama Sub-committee of the Arts Council of Great Britain Welsh Committee, 1961-1962, and as a member of Yr Academi Gymreig (English Language Section), 1978-1979, 1981. Among the correspondents are Roland Mathias, Aneirin Talfan Davies, Elwyn Evans, John Elwyn (2), John Greve (3, including a copy of a talk by him on the work of Glyn Jones, broadcast 1958), John Ackerman Jones, Leslie Norris (3), and John Ormond. Some letters are addressed to newspaper editors and a few were sent by various correspondents to Doreen Jones. In addition, the file includes lists of letters sent and received by Glyn Jones, 1960x1985.

World War II: conscientious objector

The file comprises papers, 1940-1942, relating to Glyn Jones's case as a conscientious objector during World War II, including a formal application to the Local Tribunal, certificate of registration in the Register of Conscientious Objectors, and notes by Glyn Jones of replies to questions regarding his objections. Also included is related correspondence, 1942, mostly rejections to applications for numerous teaching posts, including draft letters by Glyn Jones and a list of schools to which he applied for work; and newspaper cuttings, 1942, regarding the controversy surrounding the appointment of a conscientious objector [Glyn Jones] as a teacher at Oldcastle School, Bridgend.

The file comprises papers relating to the degree of Doctor in Litteris, honoris causa awarded by the University of Wales, 1974, including Professor T. J. Morgan's presentation of Glyn Jones, and related letters and cards. The correspondents include C. W. L. Bevan, Vice-Chancellor, University of Wales, J. Prys-Jones and a card by John Elwyn. -- Also included is a programme for the degree ceremonies held at the University of Wales, Trinity College, Carmarthen, 1993, with a typescript address which appears to have been delivered by Tudor Bevan, who presented Glyn Jones to an Honorary Fellowship of Trinity College.

The papers include an 'Advance list of subscribers' to the magazine Wales, 1947; and an English literature exam paper which includes the poem 'Linnet' by Glyn Jones, 1966.
