A scrapbook, 1867-1882, begun by Evelyn Phillip Shirley of Ettington Park, Warwickshire, following his visit in August 1867 to his friend W. W. E. Wynne of Peniarth, Merioneth.
The volume initially contained ten photographs of Peniarth and its environs (ff. 11, 19, 21, 23, 25, 29, 31, 33, 37, 40) with numerous further photographs (and photographs of prints) being added showing other local views and related houses such as Glyn (ff. i verso-47 passim). Also included are leaves from W. W. E. Wynne's Pedigree of the Family of Wynne of Peniarth… (London, 1872), with hand-painted coats of arms added (ff. 2 recto-verso, 12 recto-verso, 20 recto-verso, 22 recto-verso, 24 recto-verso, 26 recto-verso), and additional manuscript notes by Wynne (ff. 13-18); four letters to Shirley from W. W. E. Wynne, [1868]-1877 (ff. i verso, 3-10, 34-35); three letters, June-July 1880, from W. R. M. Wynne (ff. 41-44) and E[dward] Breese (ff. 45-46), following W. W. E. Wynne's death, with copies of Breese's obituary of Wynne (ff. 50-52); and papers relating to the building and consecration of the Wynne Memorial Church at Bryncrug, 1880-1882 (ff. 53-59).

W. E. Wynne of Peniarth to an unnamed recipient, 1828. The pedigrees mentioned include those of the Powell family of Stanage Park, Radnorshire and of W. W. E. Wynne, Peniarth.

Historia Daret, Historia y Brenhinedd, &c.

A transcript made in 1575 by Sir Thomas Williams ('physycwr', 'o Drefriw') of an ancient manuscript written on vellum and then in the possession of Maurice Wynn of Gwydir. It contained a Llevelys version of Geoffrey of Monmouth's 'Historia y Brenhinedd' preceded by 'Historia Daret'. In the transcript 'Historia Daret' wants seven or eight pages of its beginning, and ends ' . . . dwy vil a phumcant o ganlyniawdd Antenor, mil a deucant Helenus ac Andromacha. Yd hynn ydd sycrivened historia Daret', with a list following of names of Greek and Trojan warriors slain by leaders on either side. 'Historia y Brenhinedd' begins (without the prologue): 'Aeneas yscwyddwyn wedi ymladd Tro a destryw y gaer . . .' and ends: 'Ac yuelly y tervyna istoria y brenhined cenedl vrython ynys Brydein ac ymladeu Tro a Groec'. The text is followed by a short Latin poem beginning: 'Bruti posteritas Albanis associata . . .' There is also a Welsh 'englyn' on a blank page between the two texts and at the beginning of the volume are two letters from W. W. E. Wynne (Peniarth) to a former owner of the manuscript, 1875.

Sale catalogue of books,

A printed sale catalogue 'of the library of the late Francis Smith, esq., to which is added another valuable collection ... which will be sold by auction, by Mr Evans, at his house, No. 93 Pall Mall ... 1829'. The catalogue contains the books sent by W. W. E. Wynne (see Peniarth MS 549).

Merionethshire and Caernarvonshire records (facsimile)

A facsimile manuscript in two parts mostly in the hand of William Watkin Edward Wynne. The first part comprises copies (some printed) of charters, public records, deeds, pedigrees, poetry, etc. of Merionethshire and Caernarvonshire interest, some of which are taken from transcripts made by Robert Vaughan, Hengwrt. The material includes records and pedigrees relating to the Wynn family of Peniarth; notes on the Maurice and Owen families of Clenennau, Penmorfa, Caernarvonshire, with related deeds possibly in the hand of William Maurice of Llansilin; deeds relating to the Porkington estate; an extent of the commote of Eifionydd, 1352; an extract from the Coroner's Rolls for Merionethshire, 1345; charters of Castell y Bere and Harlech Castle; pedigrees of Madog ap Dafydd of Hendwr, Llandrillo, Merionethshire; an ode to Einion ap Gruffydd of Corsygedol by Gruffudd Gryg; odes to Dafydd ab Ieuan ab Einion by Guto'r Glyn and Dafydd Nanmor; letters addressed to W. W. E. Wynne, the correspondents including Walter Davies ('Gwallter Mechain'); etc. The second part is also mostly in the hand of W. W. E. W. E. Wynne, the correspondents including Walter Davies ('Gwallter Mechain') and Joseph Morris; etc.

Peniarth and Nannau correspondence (facsimile),

Facsimile of letters, 1601-1738, mainly of the Owen family of Peniarth and the Nanney family of Merionethshire. The correspondents include Lewis Owen (1625-1691); Richard Owen (d. 1714); Lewis Owen (d. 1729), son of Richard Owen; Elizabeth Owen, mother of the latter Lewis Owen; Margaret Owen, wife of the latter Lewis Owen and daughter of Sir William Williams, second bart, of Llanforda; Jane Bulkeley (d. 1765), daugher of Lewis and Margaret Owen; Hugh Nanney; and Richard Nanney. Other correspondents include Robert Vaughan, Hengwrt, and there are letters from Margaret Owen to her father, Sir William Williams.
There is an introductory note by William W[atkin] E[dward] Wynne at the beginning of the volume, which states that "all the letters addressed to Sir William Williams, Bart., were found in the muniment room at Wynnstay, and were given to me ... in October 1833 by the Rt Honble C. W. Williams Wynn". There is a reference in the note to Dr Samuel Johnson in relation to the education of girls and women.

[A transcript of] Alfred of Beverley's Historia de gestis regalibus regum Britannie videlicet a Bruto Britonum rege primo usque ad Normanorum tempora .
There are two slips of parchment either end of the manuscript: the first is part of a 16th century deed bearing the signature of one George Hygons; the second part is a letter from T. Duffus Hardy, Public Record Office to W. W. E. Wynne, 30 January 1863.

Trwydded pencerdd Gruffudd Hiraethog,

A roll containing a copy of the Statute of Gruffudd ap Cynan in the hand of Gruffudd Hiraethog (f. 1); together with the original licence of Gruffudd Hiraethog as Pencerdd, (1545/6) (f. 2).
Ancilliary papers included with the manuscript are a note on the contents of the manuscript, [?18 cent.] (f. 3); a transcript of the Pencerdd licence by W. W. E. Wynne (f. 4); a letter from Tho[ma]s Price, Llandrillo, to Wynne, 11 January 1861, referring to Price's translation of [?the Statute] (ff. 6-7; the translation is not present in the present manuscript); a typescript translation of the licence, [20 cent, first ½] (f. 5); and a xerox copy, [20 cent, first ½], probably of the label on the box in which the manuscript was formerly kept (f. 8).
